I used to love Northernlion until I found out he was bald

[–]pharlap1 854 points855 points  (19 children)

HE'S WHAT!?

[–]nicolasmcfly 307 points308 points  (14 children)

He's the bald guy

[–]vagabond_dilldo 291 points292 points  (4 children)

What a sick fuck, and he's been doing it right under our noses the whole time?

[–]The_Franklinator 42 points43 points  (4 children)

Same thing with MALF. Loved him until he feel down the stair and ravioli on him

[–]mrBreadBird 32 points33 points  (1 child)

I unsubbed when he was exposed as a good father live on stream 😡

[–]ModemEZ 76 points77 points  (5 children)

NLs biggest controversy is how long the food poisoning arc went on

[–]SmurreKanin 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Many people are saying this

[–]jumpdrive-set 951 points952 points  (78 children)

This is me watching illuminaughtii. I found her content like last month, thought her stuff was really cool and then like a week later boom she's terrible.

[–]EllieBasebellie 394 points395 points  (39 children)

Also it’s atrociously researched

[–]ten_dead_dogs 396 points397 points  (19 children)

The first time iilluminaughtii made a video about something I was extremely familiar with, it was kind of a revelation. "Wait a minute, this is all wrong. It's surface-level recaps without any actual insight into what happened, and some of it is just straight up inaccurate."

And then I was like "...how many of these videos have been the same thing, but I didn't know enough about the subject matter to realize it?"

[–]GigaSnaight 172 points173 points  (3 children)

Video essays are dangerous, because a good one is convincing - it is, after all, the job. A good video essayist WILL convince you. Whether it's something consequential like politics, or inconsequential like a movie review. I remember really disliking a movie, only to watch it again and realize I never watched it, just watched someone else explain why it was bad.

I remember the first time I became REALLY aware of it. Someone in some random thread I stumbled in on r/all was explaining details about years old drama in Magic: The Gathering, a subject I know way too much about. They were super confidently explaining the drama wrong, misusing game terms, and gave off the overall vibe that they started playing like last week. And it had thousands of upvoted and some gildings, because if you hadn't thrown your life away to the cardboard crack like me it would seem very correct.

Kind of opened my eyes to the danger of unearned confidence. Confidence is, after all, what puts the con in conmen.

[–]vinniepdoa 117 points118 points  (5 children)

Yeah, I was liking her stuff then she made a video about something I know very well that was just... wrong. Like, really factually incorrect and delivered in this righteous way that I couldn't trust her anymore.

[–]EllieBasebellie 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Same. That was her cruising video for me. I’m like literally none of this is correct and all sounds like it’s pulled off a buzz feed “top 10 reasons you shouldn’t cruise” list

[–]littehiker 198 points199 points  (2 children)

I was waiting for someone to say this! Her stuff is soooo poorly researched. Some of it was entertaining but basically fact checking as I watch it

[–]EllieBasebellie 130 points131 points  (0 children)

I’m convinced she comes up with the video title and then has her abused coworkers team come up with the supporting research after

[–]RequirementTall8361 78 points79 points  (3 children)

I feel so bad for Click and One Topic. They’re such cinnamon rolls, they really didn’t deserve to get dragged into the garbage fire

[–]Tea_is_me 1968 points1969 points  (283 children)

Talking about iiluminaughtii this week?

[–]sw1nky 804 points805 points  (186 children)

Oh no what did she do

[–]Dude_with_hat[S] 1331 points1332 points  (115 children)

She accused another YouTuber legal eagle of using the same visual effects as she has legal eagle published a video responding to iiluminaughtii and to add more salt into the wounds it was revealed that she was actually using somebody's else's effects. Also past drama in the comment added by Tea_is_me

[–]MormonBikeRiding 1125 points1126 points  (73 children)

Going after legal eagle is wild

[–]MrBloodyHyphen 1043 points1044 points  (31 children)

The last person I'd wanna sue over fair use is a really good professional lawyer who covers cases related to fair use and copyright

[–]maungateparoro 446 points447 points  (27 children)

I mean even if he was a little scummy, which I don't believe is, going after him just seems to be a waste of time? Like, you really expect to have any success there?

[–]Mautos 218 points219 points  (4 children)

Might as well go ahead and sue Google while you're at it

[–]97Graham 77 points78 points  (7 children)

Right? You are going after someone who can even represent themselves without issue, why would you take that fight over something so banal?

[–]TheOneTonWanton 118 points119 points  (5 children)

Worse yet, he's almost certainly smart enough to not represent himself, and lawyer enough to know exactly the best lawyer to hire.

[–]ThePunisherMax 70 points71 points  (2 children)

Not even that, hes arguably the most famous Lawyer youtuber who does Law stuff actively. And he still actively works (last I checked) as a lawyer in a prestigious firm.

He likely knows some TOP tier Copyright lawyers, furthermore, there will be lawyers coming out of the woodworks to come support him in a possibly public case.

[–]BulbusDumbledork 517 points518 points  (29 children)

nevermind that it's legaleagle. the things she said he plagiarized were:

  1. having a torn-page cutout with text in it;
  2. having an animation of text getting highlighted

this is like mcdonald's accusing burger king of plagiarism for having a burger/chip/cola meal combo

[–]MurderPutin 235 points236 points  (11 children)

Ford accuses Toyota of plagiarism for using wheels.

[–]WhereAreThePix 69 points70 points  (0 children)

She was after the editor for legal eagle that simply asked what photoshop addon they were using for a high liter effect. Literally Vox that a ton of people have been using since early 2000s

[–]Tea_is_me 992 points993 points  (29 children)

She was exposed for being terrible to her coworkers, and posting her friends almost suicide note on youtube. https://youtu.be/g_mwUJZj4eM https://youtu.be/m-KaXJkerAA

Edit: fixed the first link

[–]sw1nky 279 points280 points  (19 children)

Oh damn. The video you linked got taken down though I think :(

[–]fejrbwebfek 253 points254 points  (10 children)

They put two links together without a space in between. The first one seems to be gone, but the second link is here: https://youtu.be/m-KaXJkerAA

[–]KeeperOfWatersong 169 points170 points  (20 children)

From what I gathered she made some dumb plagerism accusation towards LegalEagle for using common editing effects and got slammed with plagarism accusations herself unless it's something else they're refering to?

[–]therealsteveXVII 163 points164 points  (17 children)

Yes, she posted someone's suicide note while trying to paint him as a lazy freeloader. She also falsely accused someone else as being complicit to grooming and used an alt accpunt for a smearcampaign because he said the r-slur in some stream a long time ago.

[–]NaOleg 60 points61 points  (8 children)

She also falsely accused someone else as being complicit to grooming and used an alt accpunt for a smearcampaign because he said the r-slur in some stream a long time ago.

You are talking about The Click?

[–]Machotoast04098 44 points45 points  (6 children)

Yep, She also used poor oz media as a tool :(

(Hes one of my favs)

[–]Emeraldskull41 71 points72 points  (6 children)

Man what she did to Click. You dont do shit to people as nice and wholesome as that. And all the other victims caught in the matter too

[–]cooperman114 3080 points3081 points  (68 children)

I watched this guy called Jerma until I heard he puts several people into a meat grinder a day, real psycho

[–]ericbyo 977 points978 points  (7 children)

I heard he greases up roads at night so he can watch cars crash in the morning

[–]MiracleD0nut 257 points258 points  (0 children)

I heard he died to Pinwheel, truly a monster.

[–]thisis887 30 points31 points  (2 children)

Is that the same guy that won't eat salad unless it's been microwaved?

[–]Tornado76X 194 points195 points  (2 children)

I heard he zerked off on stream

[–]companysOkay 174 points175 points  (3 children)

No way, is this the same guy who got stoned, shat his pants and then clogged his toilet so he had to call a friend to come over with a plunger??

[–]Donut_Police 91 points92 points  (0 children)

I remember when he killed his audience with a cognitohazard, it was fucked up. But also really funny.

[–]Fizzhaz 230 points231 points  (5 children)

It’s consensual tho

[–]Womcataclysm 66 points67 points  (4 children)

I don't consent. Isn't there somebody you forgot to ask

[–]SantaMariaBBQsauce 89 points90 points  (4 children)

is this the guy who got blown up by a nuclear warhead a week ago?

[–]E115lement 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Once during a stream he scrum so loud it burst my eardrums

[–]PepperJackson 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I've heard every single person is his enemy

[–]Piduf 576 points577 points  (17 children)

I found a youtuber a while back that would make both funny videos where he makes shit explode, combined with super clear explanations on what he does. Real PASSIONATE about crafting stuff and experimenting.

He didn't upload anything for a while, to the point I forgot about him but a few months later I wondered where he was. Nothing on his YouTube. Nothing new on social medias either. Googled his name, turns out he was involved in some pedophilic affair.

Sometimes I think about it and I wish every influencer would do what he did: OF COURSE I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT THE CRIME but he didn't try to make drama. He just disappeared. That's probably the best thing to do. Just vanish.

[–]Seventh_Deadly_Bless 75 points76 points  (9 children)

ExperimentBoy ? Probably not.

[–]Skezas1 58 points59 points  (4 children)

This really, really reads like ExperimentBoy

[–]Darkshadow0308me too thanks 37 points38 points  (2 children)

I thought I missed something happening with Explosions & Fire for a second.

[–]Eeeeeelile 746 points747 points  (29 children)

Just like Kwite but atleast he came back and disproved all of the accusers points

[–]bob1111bob 596 points597 points  (4 children)

Had to sacrifice his anonymity in the process tho I personally don’t consider it a proper face reveal due to the circumstances

[–]Koalamatic 306 points307 points  (2 children)

I think you were seeing things. All I saw was just a floating hoodie still.

[–]bob1111bob 99 points100 points  (1 child)

I didn’t think I’d hit the drink that bad but you could be right

[–]Netwinn 210 points211 points  (3 children)

Kwite was the victim and had to forgo his long held anonymity to refute every claim. Truly hope he comes back in full capacity again.

[–]Chango_D 69 points70 points  (2 children)

He is little by little! He’s now posting on his Kwyte (with a y) channel. He posted 2 vids this week. 1 of them is on the Spider-Man 2 gameplay :)

[–]Th4tRedditorII 119 points120 points  (15 children)

Except he wasn't a horrible person though, because as you say, he proved his innocence, even at the cost of his anonymity.

[–]SrepliciousDelicious 447 points448 points  (64 children)

Achievement hunter ryan haywood.

Wat een lul

[–]timmystwin 193 points194 points  (23 children)

This was a real nail in the coffin for AH.

Their chemistry was dropping before this, with few of them really giving a shit about or understanding group cohesion and content creation, but he was a lynchpin of this by being the older "gent" in a lot of videos, same as Jack. Gave it more structure, much like Geoff running videos.

When it all became people making loud noise and aiming for improv, with no-one to corral the group, it became unwatchable for me. Gav will occasionally turn up again and try and start interesting conversations, try and make interesting content with where he's looking, what he's doing and what he's saying, but no-one else even bothers. They just don't understand working as a group, they're all acting like solo streamers doing bits, not mates having fun. (To the point Gavin has literally told people doing bits over the top of others talking to shut up in let's plays...)

[–]SomewhatIrishfellow 46 points47 points  (17 children)

And to a lesser degree Adam Kovic from FunHaus

[–]VoteForSandtrap 59 points60 points  (1 child)

Remember how his persona was a sociopathic serial killer, because it was a juxtaposition to how mild manner he was in real life? Yeah…

[–]Scorpion5437 418 points419 points  (51 children)

Certified Mini Ladd moment

Probably Ohmwrecker too

[–]TFlarz 136 points137 points  (20 children)

One day I wondered why Ohm had gone back to solo DBD videos. I looked stuff up. Moderate yikes.

[–]SheenTStars 51 points52 points  (18 children)

Wait what did ohm do? I only know him from fruit's videos, but now I'm curious.

[–]lolwatergay 195 points196 points  (13 children)

Ohm did a lot of shit-slinging towards the rest of the VanossCrew. Don't exactly remember the exact details, but he went on quite a few unhinged rants about the other members and complained about how he "wasn't in the main circle."

Not as bad as MiniLadd showings his Mini Lad to a bunch of mini lads, but still a pretty shitty thing to do.

[–]Aggravating_Cut63 70 points71 points  (6 children)

I remember when he was talking shit to Terrorizer (i think) about one of the others, and then he just goes dead quiet the moment that one guy joins lol. What a little chickenshit

[–]SuspecM 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Weird how both Mini and Ohm tried to single out Terroriser out of the group. Must be great for his self confidence.

[–]CatsKittyCat 27 points28 points  (3 children)

You're right it was terrorizer that was interviewing ohm. I think Wildcat was the one who joined.

The silence was hilarious.

Edit:changed sentence structure

[–]Undderatedmemegod 26 points27 points  (2 children)

Nah it was a small YouTuber at the time called TJV who was interviewing ohm. Wildcat joined and ohm goes quite for a few seconds before saying something like “I didn’t agree to this”

[–]GOULFYBUTT 27 points28 points  (9 children)

It's incredible that of the whole Vanoss/Machinima gang, Mr Sark has maintained a clean record. Love that man.

[–]Pattoe89 276 points277 points  (26 children)

I guess Sjin was so long ago nobody remembers it, scrolled a good way down without him being mentioned. Such a creep.

[–]Giveadden21 85 points86 points  (7 children)

This is who i was looking to see as well. Glad someone else mentioned him. I used to love his content so much. Especially him and Sips together.

[–]Pattoe89 67 points68 points  (2 children)

Sips usually is pretty stoic, but when he talked about it on stream, you could tell he was profoundly upset.

I love the chemistry between Sips, Pflax and Lewis on the triforce podcast, though.

[–]orange4zion 981 points982 points  (90 children)

And then something horrible happens to the good ones. RIP Brain4Breakfast, Technoblade, Edd Gould, and Totalbiscuit and I'll have to go fight God if he takes Hank Green from us.

[–]OntologicalShoc 303 points304 points  (16 children)

Feels like God is making a decent attempt right now ☹️

[–]wafflepantsblue 275 points276 points  (14 children)

Don't worry, it's early stage and very treatable with a high success rate. He should hopefully be fine :)

[–]IiteraIIy 122 points123 points  (4 children)

God please let this comment age well.

[–]miclowgunman 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My Bro in Law had stage four at his age and had very few complications getting cleared so I'm gonna lean hard on Experience Bias for this one and think he'll be fine.

[–]BriRice 34 points35 points  (4 children)

I forgot how much I missed Eddsworld until you mentioned Edd Gould. What a legend.

[–]IiteraIIy 31 points32 points  (2 children)

I was inconsolable over Technoblade. Such an awesome dude. Shit isn't fair.

[–]ConnectAddition2236 354 points355 points  (14 children)

I remember when I used to watch Onision and Shane Dawson videos all day on my ipod touch 🤮

[–]I_beat_thespians 194 points195 points  (3 children)

Hug. You've matured. The onion man is 37 and an immature sack of shit

[–]UnNormie 51 points52 points  (3 children)

Same for onision. I didn't share a lot of his views but was deep in the rabbit hole of 'hes not wrong for having a different opinion though!' copium, so would 100% defend him when I was younger

[–]Jesusistrans_ 102 points103 points  (16 children)

Got into a YouTube skateboarder that ended up being a big scientology guy.

[–]Gatsby-- 369 points370 points  (38 children)

Cry… what a shame that was. Edit: I meant as in Cryaotic. Not telling anybody to cry about it

[–]Gaskychan 120 points121 points  (10 children)

That one still hurts

[–]Rumsie 53 points54 points  (9 children)

Dare I ask what happened?

[–]ScuttleBerry 181 points182 points  (8 children)

He posted a video saying some weird stuff about mental health and then said something about being involved with a minor and was trying to downplay it. Then in the ensuing month 5+ individuals came out stating they had shared pictures and done stuff in calls with him while they were minors.

Also it came out that his public gf for a couple years was a minor when they started dating. He went radio silent after so many people came out with proof and afaik he just disappeared in 2019. More drama happened, but honestly I can't remember it all. It was on of the early Google docs evidence compilations ( at least that I can remember).

[–]Terachimeric 90 points91 points  (9 children)

Cry was a huge one for me, he was my favourite lets player. If you're into a calmer and more thoughtful look at lets plays though, you might appreciate ManlyBadassHero. Scratches the same itch for me, anyway, and he plays tons of unknown indie horror.

[–]ypapruoy 375 points376 points  (98 children)

I still miss the old funhaus.

[–]timo103 243 points244 points  (35 children)

Roosterteeth in general. Holy shit how did they plummet so quickly.

[–]Nightshot 107 points108 points  (18 children)

At least Ray got out of it.

[–]tennisdrums 81 points82 points  (11 children)

The whole "plummet" thing is kind of a half truth, though. A lot of the stuff about their shady business practices and frat-culture that have come out recently lineup almost exactly with the time period most fans look back on as their "peak".

I think it came down to the fact that the guys who founded it didn't really know how to evolve their culture and management practices from "a few guys making stuff together" into a "full business with employees", which led to a lot of shitty hours for employees, people not getting paid on time, a very cliquey company culture, etc.

[–]granitepinevalley 52 points53 points  (5 children)

Man… I remember the week it all blew up. Each thing was progressively worse until it landed on one person grooming fans and the other whacking it in the bathroom while cheating on his wife.

[–]an_agreeing_dothraki 87 points88 points  (14 children)

worst one that happened to me:

'oh wow warhammer lore vids and a lot. and it's fun'
'...well that was an odd thing to say, oh well must have been a-'
'youtube seems to be trying to get me to watch genuinely awful things lately'
'you know what I'm going to google this guy'
'PURGE! PURGE THE RECOMMENDATION LIST'

[–]Gargenville 50 points51 points  (3 children)

40K attracts a loooooot of guys who are into the space fascism for the wrong reason.

[–]Azell414 416 points417 points  (42 children)

they start advertising crypto . com 💀

[–]Dejan05 68 points69 points  (6 children)

Gothamchess?

[–]SamSibbens 56 points57 points  (1 child)

I think he stopped advertising them a few months ago. I'd have to watch some newer videos of his to confirm

[–]Malthur 260 points261 points  (30 children)

Rhett & Link, Call Me Kevin, Drew Gooden, Danny Gonzalez, you will never disappoint me, right?

[–]ShuFish 391 points392 points  (5 children)

Why would you format your comment like this? I was horrified reading that first bit 😭

[–]notArandomName1 111 points112 points  (2 children)

If Rhett and Link turned out bad, I'm not sure how I would handle that news.

[–]EverlastingEvening 47 points48 points  (0 children)

You are basically me with those channels. Add Kurtis and Scott Cramer and fuck man, I don't know who I'd watch anymore at that point. All of them seem like saints, even if Rhett and Link are a bit more commercialized.

[–]Daviscore156 475 points476 points  (55 children)

Good ole Channel 5 News

[–]UVCLight 79 points80 points  (1 child)

That one hurts a lot because I really enjoyed the content and his interview style. I remember I was literally watching the HBO special and like 20 minutes into it found out. Never finished it cause it just felt off.

[–]mrBreadBird 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I mean, that's probably the reason people came forward about him when they did - he was blowing up and doing a ton of interviews.

EDIT - Not saying they did it for clout, just that if you're seeing someone you had these bad experiences with on TV etc. that might bring those memories back/inspire you to speak out.

[–]OctaviousBlackloves fish memes 1200 points1201 points  (320 children)

I loved JonTron's videos but I haven't watched them since his weird racist rant.

[–]Dude_with_hat[S] 437 points438 points  (208 children)

I'm sorry his what

[–]Paperfrowns 190 points191 points  (2 children)

Man you're really learning a lot today about your subscription list hahaha

[–]Ncrpts 573 points574 points  (138 children)

[–]cluelessbox 509 points510 points  (79 children)

Oh man i had forgotten how bad it really was lol.

[–]Ncrpts 384 points385 points  (37 children)

There is also the whole "White ethnostate project" part but don't have the timestamp

[–]AdGold6646 234 points235 points  (34 children)

The biggest irony is he is half Iranian and half Hungarian. By his own beliefs, he should not be in this country.

[–]Vysoky 280 points281 points  (30 children)

"No body wants to become a minority in their own country" FUCKING WHAT, JOHN?!?

Goddamn I've never seen this and holy hell - Destiny tries so hard over and over again to Save John from gutting his career and he won't. stop. talking.

[–]GimmeDatThroat 97 points98 points  (9 children)

To be fair his video still get millions of views when he makes them so I wouldn't say gutted.

[–]Unoriginal_Man 109 points110 points  (4 children)

Yeah, he laid low until the heat died down, then came back to continued success. I will never understand his decision to hold that debate. There was no good outcome to be had, and it's not like he was known for his social commentary.

[–]CaptainSouthbird 51 points52 points  (2 children)

Yeah, I mean, he's pretty much got the YouTube creator dream. Only has to put out a video every few months, rakes in millions of views WITH a sponsor (so probably makes at least tens of thousands of dollars per video, never mind trickle income from his backlog) then just ducks out for a few months until popping up again. I don't follow him personally and I imagine he's possibly making money elsewhere.

Although relative to this, I do remember when he got pulled from his Yooka-Laylee voice acting role because of this incident.

[–]Low-Caterpillar-9913 121 points122 points  (10 children)

"No body wants to become a minority in their own country"

Why, are they treated poorly or something, Jon?

[–]Munnodol 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Me, a Black American: care to explain what you mean by that Jon?

[–]IAmRoofstone 111 points112 points  (3 children)

Wow I forgot that it was THAT bad holy shit Jon

[–]FvHound 27 points28 points  (1 child)

For a fair amount of time after that, you had loads of people saying how it wasn't really that bad, and accusing others of not having even seen the video, but these same people would never reply to people quoting jon from the video.

[–]FlawlessRuby 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Oh no... I mean he kept going :/

[–]Mountain-Pudding 106 points107 points  (7 children)

To me it always just felt like JonTron has a much harder time to accept and admit when he was wrong than others. If you hear him argue, the way he talks, he never really backs down from anything he says. Pair that with a mouth that speaks before thinking and a heavy confirmation bias and you got the mess that is JonTron.

[–]mrBreadBird 70 points71 points  (4 children)

It was much worse than that. If you watch the video he doesn't just say one dumb thing - he clearly fell into some racist hole online dropping multiple "facts" and buzzwords from those communities.

[–]Guilty_Advice7620 58 points59 points  (13 children)

He was more of a streamer but Elliot Gindi…

[–]Rajin29 60 points61 points  (19 children)

Pogo's "social experiments" come to mind. I liked his music but I don't know whats going on with that guy and im just not interested in his wierd bullshit. With people like that i find it best just to move on.

[–]DD1ablo 165 points166 points  (5 children)

I used to love Osama bin ladens gaming content...

[–]RequirementTall8361 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Me too, until he started getting political

[–]sukuidoardo 58 points59 points  (4 children)

I'm just here to see which YouTuber is actually bad people lmao

[–]proxiiiiiiiiii 653 points654 points  (176 children)

Literally never happened to people I watch

[–]_I_must_be_new_here_ 653 points654 points  (42 children)

Imagine VSauce getting into drama

[–]Meatball545 727 points728 points  (9 children)

HEY Vsauce, Michael here… or am I?

Deletes channel right after

[–]Emsratte 72 points73 points  (12 children)

There is drama about the curiosity Box. I don't know if it's straight from VSauce but people are pissed that they still advertise it.

[–]winniethefukinpooh 44 points45 points  (10 children)

what did curiosity box do

[–]Emsratte 84 points85 points  (8 children)

They deliver stuff very late or not at all, cancelations don't geh through and the quality is shit

[–]StevieStayCool 117 points118 points  (23 children)

CallMeKevin is a saint.

[–]Finnbalt 42 points43 points  (1 child)

that man is the most chaotic individual on this planet and needs to be locked up

...Is probably how he would describe himself.

[–]cienistyCien 64 points65 points  (1 child)

For someone so chaotic and with an ability to basically create a cult he's very wholesome

[–]leanmeanguccimachine 52 points53 points  (3 children)

Same, all the controversies seems to surround people who come across to me as blatant narcissists in the first place.

[–]TheSwedishEzza 320 points321 points  (115 children)

shadiversity for me, I hate how he seethes and everything calling it "woke"

His only gripe with Matt Walsh is that he thinks animation is for childeren and Shad sees any challenge to social norms as degeneracy.

[–]LermMortemrose 166 points167 points  (15 children)

Another YouTuber called him out on his shit in a segment of a video and in response shad made a multi hour long video claiming they lied about him and took things out of context all the while calling them disgusting and terrible for doing so. Ironically in order to fuel his narrative shad takes things out of context, lies, and assumes things. This was all about the mario movie

He literally just follows the Daily Wire playbook. I actually didn't know him for his sword and medieval stuff. I started watching his Rings of Power reviews. I agreed with a lot of the criticisms of the show's writing, but then once I started hearing him say things like "girlboss moment" and "Guy-ladriel," I was like oh shit lemme see some of his other stuff... clicked a video where he responds to someone at Daily Wire, and says in the first couple minutes that he likes Daily Wire. That was the last of that dude for me.

Cosmodore

At least we have Saberspark, he's even better IMO

[–]Dude_with_hat[S] 91 points92 points  (4 children)

Just wait a couple years eventually Saber's gonna be exposed with camera footage of him murdering baby seals

[–]stitz25b 95 points96 points  (8 children)

I liked miniladd but I cant look past what he did

When I was younger I fucking loved the band "Lostprophets" for more than 15 years I had listened to everything they ever did. Then the news about Ian Watkins came out. I was standing in a children's hostel where I was working for the Department for Child Protection. I had never felt so fucking ill in my life.

[–]DerpingtonHerpsworth 30 points31 points  (5 children)

As someone on the slightly older side of the reddit demographic, this is the first thing in this thread that I recognized.

I had the first two albums and they were in heavy rotation for much of the early 2000s. I even credit that first album as one of just a few that might've kept me from falling into a deeper depression than I was already in. I kinda just drifted away from them after that, but still loved those first two albums.

Haven't been able to really listen to them since I learned about Watkins (once or twice maybe, but otherwise I'd probably be playing them on a much more regular basis). I so badly want to separate the art from the artist, because that first album in particular really meant something to me, but it's hard.

I know that but don't know the situation fully so can you explain?

[–]Dude_with_hat[S] 175 points176 points  (13 children)

Wait him really

[–]OnixAwesome 180 points181 points  (7 children)

I'm sorry that you had to learn like this... but this is funny.

Gus Johnson

[–]LoudYellingsexist feminist of gay 317 points318 points  (11 children)

God, that one hurt.

[–]Rebelpride1 199 points200 points  (4 children)

That one still hurts. Even trying to watch Sven makes me sad

[–]FairyContractor 40 points41 points  (2 children)

A semi popular Youtuber for an MMO I play, recently completely rebranded his channel to go full on alt right cult mode. No warning, no nothing. People thought it was an early April Fools at first, but nope.
Coming from giving video game advice, his new goal includes gems like:
"raising up the next generation of Godly men as leaders of the world"

[–]Chestarpewnewtbattar 179 points180 points  (15 children)

Supported James Charles, JonTron, Gus Johnson, and Andrew Callaghan. Disappointed me in that very order. 🤡

Edit: Also ain't nobody talking about people who have always been horrible, got a redemption arc, then showed their true colors?

Re: Trisha Paytas.

[–]Sorlex 332 points333 points  (47 children)

The worst part is mistakenly giving attention to alt-right youtube. I watched a video from "Critical Drinker" once, youtube saw this and then started recommending me all their echo-chamber hugbox content, just a damn sea of youtubers with skulls in their icons and twenty thousand videos about how terrible Brie Larson is and how a black little mermaid is destroying society.

Oops.

[–]KillYourUsernames 123 points124 points  (6 children)

YouTube’s algorithm is so bad about this that I’ve started watching on incognito if it’s an account I’m unfamiliar with and I’m at all suspicious of where their values lie.

[–]HairyKraken 64 points65 points  (2 children)

YouTube’s algorithm is so bad

on the contrary it's perfectly designed to maximize engagment. too bad it create echo chamber

[–]Twigsterify 30 points31 points  (11 children)

Ah Ryan Haywood from achievement hunter

[–]GlassOfDan 181 points182 points  (21 children)

I found a youtuber at the start of the year for a computer game i like to watch. He became one of my top watched youtubers since his videos were educational and to the point, very descriptive of what was going on and what he was thinking etc etc. Then one day i saw him stream on twitch and i got all excited. After watching his stream i realised that he was insanely content focused, as in when not on a potential video he was really toxic on stream. It was like a mask he put up for the content, and when he was inbetween games he was cursing a lot and complaining about everything in a really self centered manner. When he figured that the current game was not video content he just gave up and started again and was just really boring and obnoxious on stream and towards other people in the game. After that i unsubbed from his channel because i just could not get this experience out of my head every time i saw him on youtube.

[–]Literal-Chaos 38 points39 points  (4 children)

This is the same as a siege youtuber I watch. Seeing their unedited thoughts on twitch really lifts the veil youtube provides and shows who they really are outside of highlighted clips. It doesn’t ruin their videos as much, I’m only watching their videos because they are skilled at the game.

[–]JoJo99xtv 61 points62 points  (1 child)

“They have videos and content you enjoy

They touch kids”

Always the kids man just leave em alone 😭

[–]Jozxyqk_27 148 points149 points  (17 children)

It was sadly ironic when Diamondbolt, who made a lot of videos about Transformers, turned out to be a massive Transphobe.

Edit: not exclusively Transformers, turns out

[–]Dude_with_hat[S] 38 points39 points  (1 child)

Not diamondbolt anyone but diamondbolt

[–]Jozxyqk_27 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Maybe they've improved since then, but when they went mask-off about 5 years ago, I called them out in the comments and they doubled down. This was just before a Transformers comic they were praising was about to introduce a canonically trans character, too. Might have been a fascinating meltdown by them.

[–]sketchisawesome1234 187 points188 points  (36 children)

Why do famous people got be bad people?

[–]Space_Lux 219 points220 points  (0 children)

they’re just people. most people are not purely good or bad.

[–]Cubeytheawesomest 100 points101 points  (3 children)

It’s like a fucking ancient curse.

[–]Tarot13th 57 points58 points  (17 children)

The whole Featureman situation comes to mind.

[–]just-slightly-human 23 points24 points  (8 children)

Sqizxy :( great humor and a good animator but was actually a terrible person offline

[–]mrsquare 109 points110 points  (64 children)

Just the other day learned this recently with a certain painting Youtuber I watch too :/

[–]Dude_with_hat[S] 69 points70 points  (43 children)

Dear god is it jazza

[–]EarlMcFisticuffs 91 points92 points  (33 children)

Given that his brother is Shadiversity, I wouldn't be surprised. But so far as I know, Jazza's fine.

[–]K1dn3yPunch 54 points55 points  (1 child)

This whole thread is full of “This (specific game) streamer I watched turned out to be awful”.

With no mention of the streamer. Then a dozen comments suspecting or asking who it is.

Then the op replying with the streamer name.

Just mention the streamer/YouTuber in the original comment lol. You know people are going to ask.

[–]WillScrolls 48 points49 points  (8 children)

Yogscast Sjin :( I literally grew up watching his videos so it was pretty devastating when everything came out

[–]rahcled 82 points83 points  (41 children)

Ahh yes. Also known as most British YouTubers around 2010ish

[–]moonyxpadfoot19 84 points85 points  (10 children)

DanTDM and TheGamingBeaver have never had controversies as far as I can remember. They're my favourite British YouTubers

[–]ActHour4099 40 points41 points  (1 child)

Or they become parents and suddenly it's a family channel and all their personality is gone.
