System of a Down is an Armenian-American alternative metal band formed in Glendale, California formed in 1994. The band members share Armenian heritage that influences their art both from a musical and a political / idealogical standpoint.
Often saddled with the unfortunate label of "nü metal" due to their position within the musical landscape at the time of their rise, the band was able to make itself stand out among it's complementaries such as Limp Bizkit and Disturbed by fusing frenzied guitar riffs with political lyrics.
The band has released 5 studio albums in total but has not released any material since 2005. The band embarked on an indefinite hiatus in 2006 but later reformed in 2011 and have toured extensively ever since. There are currently no plans for the band to record new material due to creative differences within the band. We're all crossing our fingers that we will one day hear new music.
