Cartoon

A cartoon is a form of two-dimensional illustrated visual art. While the specific definition has changed over time, modern usage refers to a typically non-realistic or semi-realistic drawing or painting intended for satire, caricature, or humor, or to the artistic style of such works. An artist who creates cartoons is called a cartoonist.

The concept originated in the Middle Ages and first described a preparatory drawing for a piece of art, such as a painting, fresco, tapestry, or stained glass window. In the 19th century, it came to refer to humorous illustrations in magazines and newspapers, and after the early 20th century, it referred to comic strips and animated films.

A cartoon (from Italian: cartone and Dutch: karton—words describing strong, heavy paper or pasteboard) is a full-size drawing made on sturdy paper as a study or modello for a painting, stained glass or tapestry. Cartoons were typically used in the production of frescoes, to accurately link the component parts of the composition when painted on damp plaster over a series of days (giornate).

Cartoons (band)

Cartoons, also known as Cartoons DK, were a technobilly/glam pop band from Denmark, best known for their 1998 Eurodance cover of the 1958 novelty song, "Witch Doctor" by Ross Bagdasarian, as well as for their outlandish plastic costumes and wigs used in live performances as caricatures of 1950s American rock and roll stars. Many of their hits are Europop covers of old rockabilly hits.

The band has so far sold over 2 million albums, making them one of the most successful Danish pop bands ever. They have also been nominated for Danish Grammys according to their official website.

The sextet, who use the stage names Toonie, Sponge, Shooter, Buzz, Puddy, and Boop, were first signed to FLEX Records, moving later to EMI Denmark.

Their most notable single to date is "Witch Doctor", which reached number two in the UK Singles Chart; with its combination of the original's "ooh-ee-ooh-aah-aah" chorus (although lacking that record's double-speed playback of the chorus), driving dance beat and occasional guitar breaks.

Greatest!

Greatest! is the fourth album by American singer-songwriter Johnny Cash, released on Sun Records on 12 January 1959 (see 1959 in music). It was Cash's third record on the label, which he had left the previous year to join Columbia Records. By the time the album was released, Cash had already recorded The Fabulous Johnny Cash, his first album with Columbia. This overlap would continue until 1964 with Sun releasing additional albums and singles of previously unreleased material in parallel with Cash's Columbia releases.

The tracks on Greatest! were recorded between July 1955 and July 1958. Six out of the twelve songs became singles, with "Get Rhythm" topping the Country charts and becoming the most successful one. The album was rereleased on Varèse Sarabande on May 6, 2003 with four additional tracks, two of them being alternate versions of songs already on the record.

Greatest is a 1990 compilation album by the rock group The Go-Go's from California, United States. The record, which represents the first best-of album by the Go-Go's, includes most of the hits and stand-out tracks from the band's first three studio albums, 1981 Beauty and the Beat, 1982 Vacation, and 1984 Talk Show, only omitting two minor hit singles, "He's So Strange" and "Yes or No".

The collection does not include any new songs, except for a re-recording of the 1960s cover version of "Cool Jerk" (the 'original' version of the cover was already on the Go-Go's second album, Vacation), which was also released as the one single from the compilation, reaching #60 in the UK Singles Chart, in 1991, this way becoming the second Go-Go's song to ever enter the British charts (the third and highest UK hit from the band would eventually be "The Whole World Lost Its Head", peaking at #29, from their second Greatest Hits album, 1994 Return to the Valley of The Go-Go's).
