Maitai Rangiroa is located between the villages of Avatoru and Tiputa, on one of the largest lagoons in the Southern Hemisphere. The place is beautiful, the bungalows are comfortable and the food at the restaurant is very good.

Offering a spa centre and fitness centre, Hotel Kia Ora Resort & Spa is located in Avatoru, in the northwest part of the Rangiroa Region, which is a 1-hour flight from the islands of Tahiti or Bora... We stayed in a beachfront bungalow with a jacuzzi right by the ocean. The attitude of the staff is phenomenal. Always smiling and joking. If you walk through the palm grove and cross the road to the pacific side there is an even more fabulous white sand deserted beach.

Located in Avatoru, 5 km from Tiputa Pass, Pension Turiroa " Chez Olga" provides accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a private beach area and barbecue facilities. The staff was so nice, Puema was the kindest most helpful host I can remember having in a long time. It is a very pretty place in a great location and the common area bungalow is perfect for spending an afternoon or sunset on. I would definitely stay here again next time I'm in Rangiroa. There is a grocery shop and restaurants very close by so the location is very convenient.

Va'a i te Moana offers accommodation in Avatoru. It provides free private parking and a paid shuttle service to various landmarks around the island. Had wonderful stay. The hosts are warm and kind people. The place is at a great location - Tiputa pass is close by where you can see dolphins jumping and there is a grocery in 5 - 10 minute walk. I stayed in a dormitory room. I was clean, spacious and mattress was new and comfortable. Airport transportation (included in the price) worked out very well. The accommodation provides a bicycle that allowed me to browse around the island. Check in/Check out was easy as well.

Le Coconut Lodge is a family guesthouse in Avatoru, in the Rangiroa Region and set in a tropical garden by a private beach on the lagoon side. We had a beautiful bungalow at the Coconut Lodge. I felt like I was in a dream waking up early and watching the sun peek through the windows. The property is beautiful and right on the beach where you can easily take a kayak out or just swim out for some snorkeling. The hosts are incredibly charming and open to chat over breakfast and dinner!

Offering free WiFi, a private coral beach and a restaurant, Rangiroa Plage is located in Avatoru Village on the lagoon side. All rooms offer tiled flooring and mosquito nets. I liked the location, in front of the sea. A good place for snorkeling and near the village

Offering a restaurant, a private rocky beach area and free WiFi, Miki Miki Lodge is located in Ohuto. All accommodation offers a patio. Jennie the host did a great job pick up/drop off at airport, made arrangements with local tour groups, fixed breakfast and the option of having her prepare diner (for fee) she's a great cook highly recommend.
The island is relatively small with few restaurants and activities. Having said that, the ocean and the marine life are beyond expectations and we wish we could have stayed two extra days to enjoy even more water sports and activities.
THE place for diving; and then chilling out. Dived Tiputa reef and pass 9 times and different every time. Do the Blue Lagoon trip - a must. We had bikes to ride, though our host would have been happy to drive us. Lots of restaurant options but be mindful of opening and closing hours. Serves are huge - we often shared one plate! Puna Ohotu on the main wharf overhanging water was a lovely setting and good food. Check out the dolphin viewing area for evening pleasure! We found the pearl farm tour interesting and no pressure to buy.
Avatoru is a kind village with just enough amenities. Be ready to have a rest period in the heat of the day with every one else as everything is closed. Then be sure to get dinner early before the island shuts down. This never bothered us as we wore ourselves out diving and going on the Reef Island excursion--awesome! Don't leave without playing with the dolphins in the out tide.
Actually we didn't have the chance to explore the town as transportation was hard to get. There were bikes to rent at the hotel for about $8/hour and the town is about 6 km from the hotel. We would probably have done it in the late afternoon if the staff didn't disprove of for safety reasons - bikes didn't have lights and it would have been hard to ride after sunset. So apart from the diving, we were kind a tied to stay in the hotel. The food was good, but the second day the variety of fish form the menu got poor. In general, Rangiroa is famous for its diving sites. If you are a diver you'll enjoy your stay.
