The Hivemind Improving Homes
Discussion with waterproofing salesman was going great and suddenly turned south after one sentence.
About 18 months ago, I sought quotes to waterproof my basement but found them pricey, so I didn't proceed. Today, I wanted a quote for just a French drain installation. I called several well-reviewed companies, including some I'd contacted previously, to see if they had my details on record.
One company quoted around $8k for the drain. Another company, which hadn't given a quote earlier, had a very responsive salesman. He promptly visited, explained their service in depth, and even compared their warranty to competitors. Their warranty was comprehensive, covering all walls and floors indefinitely and is transferable. Their quote was ~$12k. I appreciated his thoroughness but wanted to get at least three quotes.
However, things got complicated. The salesman offered a 12% discount if we agreed to a flexible start date, bringing it down to ~$10k. But when I said I'd decide by Friday after getting another quote, he became defensive and insisted on an immediate decision. He contradicted his earlier flexibility about the start date.
Though the company has good online reviews and operates widely, this high-pressure tactic raised concerns for me. Is it still worth considering them? I really like how much their warranty covers and that I will not need a water vapor barrier after.
