Lithuanian Prime Minister

Lithuanian in a sketch:

hmm...

[–]GweenbleiddUkraine 1271 points1272 points  (92 children)

incredible isn't it?

[–]malmordar 811 points812 points  (83 children)

Pretty much young Stalin as the Georgian too, I’ve. Been to Georgia. Most of them don’t look like Stalin

[–]polypolip 365 points366 points  (58 children)

When did you go?

30-40 years ago the travel was more restricted in the USSR and the Warsaw pact countries, making the region specific features more prominent. The impact of globalization on people's style (hair, etc.) was way smaller as well.

[–]kasbergSvenskfinland 70 points71 points  (18 children)

The modern western diet also affects people's appearance by quite a bit.

[–]malmordar 31 points32 points  (11 children)

I got married there in 2017 summer

[–]polypolip 71 points72 points  (8 children)

Yeah, that's very recent.

I hope you've enjoyed it, everyone who's been there told me it's beautiful.

[–]kurdebolek 375 points376 points  (45 children)

Ukrainian boxer Wladimir Klitschko

Ukrainian in the sketch...

[–]defrgthzjukiloaqswGermany 389 points390 points  (32 children)

This just in: Stereotypes are based on reality.

[–]Zhymantas 39 points40 points  (4 children)

And my head is similarly shaped too, but it's more ovalish.

[–]andynodi 963 points964 points  (126 children)

How should someone distinguish between Azerbaijani Georgian and Armenian?

[–]69ingmonkeyzThe Netherlands 1433 points1434 points  (32 children)

The moustaches.

[–]nmarjanov 294 points295 points  (10 children)

Ask them for a passport.

[–]reverendjesus 103 points104 points  (3 children)

“Arstotzka so great, passport not required!”

[–]wrcker 36 points37 points  (5 children)

Talk favorably about turkey and the Armenians will out themselves immediately.

[–]Matduka 830 points831 points  (11 children)

They're screwed if they're looking for a female suspect.

[–]da_Aresinger 331 points332 points  (5 children)

Nah, in the old world women and men look the same.

We don't do that new age segregation stuff you weirdos in the wild west do.

Long hair... pffff

[–]MaFataGerTwo dozen tongues, one yearning voice 74 points75 points  (3 children)

Today I learned Eastern Europeans are dwarves, huh

[–]El-Noir 267 points268 points  (15 children)

Lenin was extermally mixed.

[–]eestlane1990Estonia 1130 points1131 points  (69 children)

[–]globefish23Styria (Austria) 219 points220 points  (7 children)

You spelt exothermically wrong.

[–]MortyFromEarthC137 61 points62 points  (6 children)

No no, that’s definitely how Indubitably is spelt.

[–]FeedMyDopenose 114 points115 points  (9 children)

So was Yuri from Command and Conquer: Red Alert apparently.

[–]KhatchKeri 56 points57 points  (12 children)

He had some Chuvash ancestry from his grandfather. He's Russian/Chuvash mix

[–]Defibrillatore 475 points476 points  (55 children)

Also Heisenberg was a Tartar

[–]ilpescepallaItaly 314 points315 points  (28 children)

Thus, we can conclude that Lenin was Heisenberg.

[–]get_on_my_level_son 83 points84 points  (3 children)

That doesn’t sound right, but I don’t know enough about syllogisms to disprove it.

[–]FrisianDudeFriesland (Netherlands) 82 points83 points  (8 children)

[–]AcidicAzideEurope 875 points876 points  (81 children)

So Borat was actually Azerbaijani?

[–]judicorn99France 340 points341 points  (43 children)

[–]nono_le_robotFrance 119 points120 points  (13 children)

Would a Jew wanna trow the jews down the wheel?

[–]SUMBWEDY 74 points75 points  (4 children)

He wants his country to be free.

[–]the0rthopaedicsurgeo 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Who needs freedom when you're already the world's largest exporter of potassium?

[–]potatolulzEarth 4248 points4249 points 2 (498 children)

The artist sure went all out with the gypsy guy, it's his most detailed and expressive work in this set of pictures.

[–]DumbQuijoteFinland 3261 points3262 points  (189 children)

It's hilarious, he's the only one depicted from a slight angle as well, with detailed shading. Heroically gazing into the sunlit distance.

[–]potatolulzEarth 1342 points1343 points  (80 children)

Right? I think he's the main hero in the epic tale about these 18 dudes.

[–]Sandr0SpazApulia 466 points467 points  (60 children)

God now I want a series about the tale of these 18 guys

[–]PsuBratOK 29 points30 points  (6 children)

Or a video game where you can pick which one to play in a story about them

[–]potatolulzEarth 105 points106 points  (7 children)

The Moldovan turns to evil in season two over money but rethinks his life choices and joins the good guys again in season three after the villains capture and kill the most principled fighter for justice, the Kazakh, but not before he gives a moving and inspiring speech about how he'll never back down.

[–]yuffxRussia 52 points53 points  (5 children)

Latvian just drinks in the corner all day

[–]Plastic_PinocchioThe Netherlands 280 points281 points  (79 children)

Gypsy guy’s pretty good looking to be honest.

[–]SzudarPoland 312 points313 points  (64 children)

Other guys stole money and cars. Gypsy guy stole our hearts.

[–]Plastic_PinocchioThe Netherlands 153 points154 points  (28 children)

And our cars.

Edit: Now that this comment gets lots of views, I want to be clear that it was a joke. I don’t have any experiences, either good or bad, with gypsies.

[–]Kuivamaa 48 points49 points  (1 child)

The troubled everyday man that went through hell but rose above and found inner peace.

[–]shmeu 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Maybe the extra shading is to depict the darker skin.

[–]lonelyswed 39 points40 points  (2 children)

Something something bias against any gypsy sober enough to stand up straight. That or the sketchartist can't hold back their gypsy boner.

[–]InternJedi 339 points340 points  (14 children)

Low key Oberyn Martell/Pedro Pascal

[–]Tatis_ChiefSlovakia into EU 75 points76 points  (0 children)

[–]FerocetisBohemian Crown 30 points31 points  (0 children)

My colleague always smiles, but it's him.

[–]szpaceSZAustria/Hungary 125 points126 points  (17 children)

They are stereotypical, but so well captured stereotypes!

Of course you have "median faces" and certain predominant phenotypes (as well as styles, such as facial hair styles) in every community.

One can certainly describe them.

[–]UnimpressionableCageSpain 1040 points1041 points  (29 children)

It’s quite obvious they are talking about the lithuanian savant Mikalojus Tešla

[–]pm_me_your_halloumi 89 points90 points  (15 children)

You are confused. They mean the great Greek scientist Nikolaos Teslopoulos

[–]gib-upvoteMinsk (Belаrus') 58 points59 points  (7 children)

You obviously meant the great Polish scientist, Mikołaj Teslęczyszczykiewicz Teslakiewicz. Or the Belarussian genius Mikalaj Teslašenko.

[–]yuffxRussia 56 points57 points  (1 child)

Teslęczyszczykiewicz

German typists HATE him!

no, no, honestly, I was born near the border and my father had a bicycle

[–]Utreg1994Utrecht (Netherlands) 295 points296 points  (61 children)

So Stalin was really just a fat Azerbaijanian.

[–]ThisFiascoUnited Kingdom 208 points209 points  (50 children)

[–]jarvis400Finland 126 points127 points  (21 children)

He does look pretty.

[–]Ka1serGermany 136 points137 points  (12 children)

Just a small heads up: it is likely that this image was tinkered with. Stalin had smallpox in his childhood, which gave him scars in his face. You can't see any on the picture here.

[–]jarvis400Finland 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've read about it as well. Early shoop most likely.

[–]RaefLaFriendsHesse (Germany) 25 points26 points  (4 children)

He also had Psoriasis. This dude drew the worst cards in the skin game.

[–]ArkunnaulaAustralia 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You can see exactly how bad it was in videos of him though.

[–]ThisFiascoUnited Kingdom 53 points54 points  (7 children)

Yeah, he was a handsome dude. Shame about all the, y'know, Stalinism.

[–]SithrakWe are fucked 36 points37 points  (3 children)

Reminder no 285474372 that we should not judge people by the looks. "Ooooh, they are pretty, they must be good!".

[–]Zhymantas 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Mister steal your family and send them to Gulag

[–]LegworkDoer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

you mean Borat?

[–]AlkreniPoland 656 points657 points  (208 children)

The funny thing is that the chart is quite often correct. Try to google some people with that nationalities. :)

[–]Emis_Estonia 230 points231 points  (39 children)

Yea for me the estonian looks the most familiar and also the latvian is pretty good.

[–]JaraxoUnited Kingdom 71 points72 points  (1 child)

Lithuanian forehead/brow I recognised instantly.

[–]TypoopieSweden 113 points114 points  (1 child)

I know an Uzbek and the sketch is pretty much exactly what he’ll look like in 15-20 years.

[–]fullywokevoiddemonBucharest 44 points45 points  (10 children)

I have a half armenian friend, have met his dad and i gotta say they do look a lot like that sketch. Scaringly accuarate in some cases.

[–]algocovidRomania 39 points40 points  (2 children)

I know a Latvian guy who looks almost the same as the one in this sketch, just a bit younger.

The Moldovan one also seems quite a common face around here.

[–]Mythemind 33 points34 points  (19 children)

I guess Lithuanians are known for their legendary chins?

[–]Birziaks 91 points92 points  (17 children)

Yes, a we are famous for our square faces.

We wear box shaped hats and our pillows are in a form of a brick, to adjust better to the head shape.

Sadly, as our country is small, they don't produce ear covered headphones with a shape for our heads. Market not big enough I guess.

But in reality, you could meet people with those facial features. But my guess is you could meet people with almost all of the above facial features in Lithuania.

[–]ihatefruitfly 69 points70 points  (9 children)

Latvia and Estonia representing with two male models.

[–]Anti-Scuba_HedgehogEstonia 22 points23 points  (2 children)

Estonia version looks like a famous singer from the era, Georg Ots.

[–]Tubbster89 30 points31 points  (0 children)

TIL Wayne Rooney is Lithuanian...

[–]UnRenardRouge 76 points77 points  (26 children)

Why are some just assumed to be bald?

[–]Ghost963czOstravak 56 points57 points  (4 children)

Some nationalities are also more prone to baldness - for example, something like 45% of Czech males are bald above certain age...

[–]JellyTheBear 574 points575 points  (213 children)

It’s ethnicity, not race.

[–]szpaceSZAustria/Hungary 199 points200 points  (19 children)

"race" is an ill defined term.

In the context of the USSR it's not even "ethnicity". They used the term "nationality".

In the terminology of the USSR documents you had "citizenship: Soviet" and "nationality: {Kazakh, Russian, Armenian, Jew, ...}".

This nationality was not corresponding with your citizenship or residence in either of the distinct SSRs but independent of it.

They had people categorized by their ethnicity in official documents, even much more granularly than by "race" in the US (and called it nationalnost' - nationality).

[–]algocovidRomania 200 points201 points  (18 children)

True, it's an important distinction.

I don't think they were using the concept of "race" in the USSR, and even taking today's American concept, almost all in the sketch would be of the same race (except maybe the Gypsy, the Kazakh, the Kyrghiz).

[–]Sshalebo 54 points55 points  (22 children)

I started looking at this pic thinking it was just gonna be some xenophobic simplified thing but then I saw my ex father-in-law in the face titled ukrainian... and he was ukrainian!

[–]Willbo__Swaggins 11 points12 points  (1 child)
