I don't mean to sound rude but I'm pretty sure I made you in my WWE 2k19 game

[–]NupSuckle[S] 4812 points4813 points  (63 children)

I’m pretty sure I made myself in NBA 2k too lmao

You must be so good at that game where you tap someone on the shoulder and make them think it was someone else.

I owned the halls in Middle School

[–]PrizeStrawberryOil 731 points732 points  (46 children)

Unfortunately if you wear a skirt it has to be ankle length.

[–]AlekBalderdash 346 points347 points  (42 children)

A girl at my school had arms shorter than her torso.

That rule got updated.

[–]Moist-Knowledge01 66 points67 points  (26 children)

I don’t get it. Is there a rule that girls’ skirts have to be as long as their arm?

[–]thecheat420 42 points43 points  (1 child)

The general rule in American schools without uniforms is that girls shorts have to at least reach past their fingertips when their arms are at their sides.

[–]evinc 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's the go-to dress code rule in many U.S. schools.

[–]djnews12 828 points829 points  (87 children)

Get into competitive swimming

[–]NupSuckle[S] 487 points488 points  (14 children)

I used to love swimming when I was younger!

[–]benjancewicz 151 points152 points  (3 children)

They’re right. Do this.

[–]AimeeSantiago 45 points46 points  (2 children)

Yes. Go back into swimming or water polo. Great sports for your body type and they aren't as physically damaging as other sports. Your joints will thank you in 50 years.

[–]remimorin 116 points117 points  (54 children)

If I remember correctly Michael Phelps is like that.

[–]KingNewbie 195 points196 points  (51 children)

Michael Phelps is 6’4” with a 6’7” wingspan. OP has a greater advantage if he bulks up his upper body.

[–]KickballJesus 156 points157 points  (24 children)

Phelps also has the torso of someone 6'8 and the legs of someone 5'9. Short legs create less drag.

[–]columnq 90 points91 points  (10 children)

So what you're suggesting is we saw off OPs legs and voilà olympic gold medalist? Could even go for the double in the paralympics.

[–]philosiraptor 48 points49 points  (8 children)

My husband is 6’3” with a 6’10.5” wingspan, and I think maybe he should have been a little more serious about sports now.

[–]StraightBumSauce 10 points11 points  (1 child)

If he plays pick up basketball at all then he must be a massive headache for the other team

    [–]kiwiinthesheets 182 points183 points  (5 children)

I hope the acceptable length of your shorts wasn’t determined by your fingertips in grade school

    [–]idontlikeyourtone 66 points67 points  (2 children)

This happened to me multiple times! I would have an almost knee-length pair of shorts but my arms were (and still are) so long that none of my shorts would pass the test. I was sent home a few times and once a teacher made me borrow a classmate's gym pants; they were lulu lemons one size too small so instead of distracting everyone with an inch of exposed thigh I got to distract everyone with very clingy pants over my butt.

    [–]RubberFroggie 30 points31 points  (0 children)

And I have short arms and a longer torso so I was able to wear mini skirts and short shorts all through school if I chose. My finger tips barely go past my ass, that rule was so dumb.

    [–]zapper83 140 points141 points  (28 children)

I'm gonna sound like an ass but please research about the problems boxers have later in life. Although, with long ass arms like that you're probably gonna beat the shit out of the opponents before they land a single jab on ya.

    [–]Princes_Slayer 198 points199 points  (5 children)

All I’m picturing is OP putting his hand on his opponents head to keep him at arms length while opponent just flails his arms around wildly

    [–]RandyDinglefart 80 points81 points  (9 children)

What? I wear boxers every day and never have any problems.

    [–]Hazardbeard 532 points533 points  (69 children)

Start a gofundme. If you’re under 30 and have no health problems I’m not kidding, you could genuinely be a terrifying boxer.

    [–]Snaeblooc 213 points214 points  (12 children)

Honestly how much is it for 2 years of boxing gym membership? You could meet that goal with reddit's help for sure. I'd pay 10 bucks just to see the look on the other guys face in your first match

    [–]Lanthemandragoran 54 points55 points  (4 children)

Same. 100%. This is the sort of shit I love giving money to lol.

    [–]Hazardbeard 90 points91 points  (3 children)

I don’t know what it is elsewhere but I’d say $60 a month is something you could find around here in a Midwestern suburb. Let’s call it $100 and you’re only looking at $2400 for two years, which if you’re a quick learner is plenty of time to be actively competing. Hell even if it was $200 a month, look how many upvotes he got, it’s attainable.

    [–]Mr_RobotNick 136 points137 points  (4 children)

Heck I wouldnt mind paying for your lessons and you turn pro, and you throw a fight here and there to return the favor.

    [–]MDer118 151 points152 points  (1 child)

Just think how far he could throw a fight with those arms.

    [–]Gonzostewie 1600 points1601 points  (81 children)

Quick tips: Elbows in. Hands held just below your eyes (the ones you don't see coming hurt the most). Bring em back as fast as you throw em. All power comes from the hips. Straight punches win fights. Keep the fist loose until just before impact & snap it closed. Footwork footwork footwork.

I would make you a champion, son.

    [–]NupSuckle[S] 772 points773 points  (31 children)

    Thanks Coach :)

    [–]TheGhostofJimBridger 103 points104 points  (11 children)

    ...or start climbing.

    [–]lurking_bishop 35 points36 points  (6 children)

No brain damage too for what that's worth

    [–]Jerbergeron 15 points16 points  (1 child)

I mean there could be, it's just either none or all of it.

    [–]imregrettingthis 38 points39 points  (9 children)

Show them your arms and ask to be trained for free.

    [–]JohnnySmallHands 74 points75 points  (8 children)

Great to train, not great to train hard/compete.

Before you get into it make sure you're aware of how it affects you in the future. Getting hit in the head multiple times a day is not good for you in any capacity.

If you're just doing it casually though and not sparring often or hard then it's great. One of the best workouts out there.

    [–]johntwoods 41 points42 points  (0 children)

    [–]holy_crap1 187 points188 points  (24 children)

    [–]hankbaumbachjr 58 points59 points  (14 children)

My uncle makes fake limbs for people and the way they figure out how tall someone's legs should be is by measuring their wingspan as most people have a relatively similar wingspan to height ratio.

There are some NBA players who have longer wingspans than height, but not by a foot, more like 3-4 inches.

    [–]clairebear071700 89 points90 points  (3 children)

I was going to say the same. My brothers and my son did the same thing, their arms would get super long and then over the summer they’d shoot up over 6’ tall. If not, you’re beautiful anyway

    [–]ThisManDoesTheReddit 708 points709 points  (63 children)

Start deadlifting man! You'll kill it!

    [–]ATG_19 188 points189 points  (5 children)

    Deadlift numbers would be ridiculous.

    [–]Heallun123 62 points63 points  (3 children)

Could you fucking imagine this lad doing sumo. He could lock out without picking up the bar.

    [–]TravisJungroth 118 points119 points  (4 children)

It’s just like boxing, except you get three minute rests and no one is punching you.

    [–]_off_piste_ 294 points295 points  (6 children)

Quite the opposite of if he tried bench press. 😂

    [–]TheRunnerBean 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just posted about deadlifting without reading the comments. Would be potentially insane at it

    [–]trawchay 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I was gonna say this but I thought I should look for a similar comment first! Lol

    [–]theseus1234 45 points46 points  (20 children)

Why would long arms make deadlift easier? Less travel distance for the weight?

    [–]ThisManDoesTheReddit 73 points74 points  (12 children)

Yup that's exactly why, also the inverse will be true for bench press as someone else pointed out. For someone his size (once you get into competitive powerlifting levels this will also generally mean weight class too) he'll have to lift a deadlift for a shorter distance and press a bench press for a longer distance to complete each lift

    [–]IrvineRyan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m 6’1 with over a 6’7” wingspan. I’ve always been super shit at benching ... this explains a lot. Thank you.

    [–]NoMoreDependence 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes. Less range of motion overall. Those 5” or 6” of reduced motion is huge and could make for an incredibly strong deadlift number without much extra weight needed

    [–]retirement_savings 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep. Imagine someone had arms that go almost all the way to the floor. They wouldn't have to lift much at all to deadlift. Now imagine a t rex with tiny arms: they have way more distance to cover with the barbell to stand upright.

    [–]WaywardViolet 1002 points1003 points  (37 children)

I see a lot of comments suggesting you start boxing or swimming... I'd like to add fencing. The extra reach would be an advantage, similar to the advantage in boxing.

    [–]NupSuckle[S] 337 points338 points  (18 children)

That sounds like a good idea

    [–]Abiknits 250 points251 points  (6 children)

Less risk of brain trauma too. That's huge!

    [–]david_edmeades 77 points78 points  (4 children)

Epee is fun and takes the most advantage of extra reach. Stab 'em in the toes!

    [–]elysiuumm 21 points22 points  (2 children)

Was just thinking this as well, this guy would have a crazy advantage in epee

    [–]TheMarsian 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I'd like to add gourmet chef... because well I love food.

    [–]Iggy45 1072 points1073 points  (80 children)

You could be a beast at rock climbing

    [–]NupSuckle[S] 668 points669 points  (70 children)

I’ve rocked climbed before , it’s pretty fun and an absolute killer for you back!

    [–]ScHwAnG_ScHwInG 705 points706 points  (61 children)

This x100. There are people I know who would kill for this. Climbers call it your "ape index" - it's a ratio, but we usually just refer to the amount measured in centimetres that your wingspan is longer than your height, if you're positive it's considered extremely helpful. At 6'6 you'd be +25 which is absolutely outrageous (+6 is considered unusual or advantageous)

    [–]Blossomie 274 points275 points  (5 children)

    ape index

    return to monke

    [–]LiDePa 25 points26 points  (2 children)

    reject humanity!

why become a world class boxer or rock climber when you can be an esports god in gorilla tag?

    [–]Ma_glip_glops 107 points108 points  (2 children)

If you are looking to get into climbing, try bouldering at first. I find it's more friendly for beginners, as there are no ropes or harnesses involved. Plus, it's typically more fast paced and can often be a very social setting.

    [–]NupSuckle[S] 37 points38 points  (0 children)

    Thanks for the advice :)

    [–]rinkydinkis 57 points58 points  (5 children)

    [–]NupSuckle[S] 24 points25 points  (1 child)

It’s 99% lighting and angles but thank you haha , I’m sure you look amazing :)

    [–]UrbanJunglee 34 points35 points  (6 children)

A long time ago, when I was a kid, my mom told me that I had long arms for my size (not super long like yours, just an armspan a little bigger than my height.) She showed me a statue of the Buddha (not the fat one, but depictions of Siddhartha Gautama) and started sharing with me what his physical attributes represented. All I remember was long earlobes represented his being a good listener, and his unusually long arms represented his generosity.

When I was finally (late) going through puberty, in addition to measuring my height, I would regularly measure my armspan, hoping that the favorable ratio would continue. Unfortunately I ended up with an arm span slightly less than my height! I was super bummed about this!

All this is to say that while people may be envious of your arms for some reasons, or some may make fun, I bet I'm the first to tell you that I'm jealous of your arms for my perception of your extra closeness to the Buddha!

    [–]turtley_different 356 points357 points  (39 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if you get a growth spurt and end up a lot nearer 6'6". (No guarantees though)

Olympic talent spotting programs often use wingspan to better forecast height of young-to-mid teens. Eg. World class head start for UK rowers.

I've even seen someone very like you who was age 16 and somewhere in 5'8 to 5'11 with a 6'5+ wingspan, then when I saw him age 18-19 he was a ludicrously tall lad in the 6'4-6'7 range.

    [–]burrito_bisen 130 points131 points  (11 children)

    I'm 5'8 and 16, but I have a wingspan of 6'3

don't do that, don't give me hope

    [–]InvictaBlade 93 points94 points  (1 child)

    I'm 5'10 with a a wingspan of 6'4

    When I was 16, I was 5'10 with a wingspan of 6'4

    [–]Afterbirthofjesus 136 points137 points  (15 children)

My husband is 6'6"....if you grow that much that fast, its going to hurt. A lot.

    [–]berticus23 112 points113 points  (5 children)

I grew 10” my freshman year of HS, can confirm that it didn’t feel good. The stress fracture was the worst part of it but the constantly popping knees was a close 2nd.

    [–]wondrwrk_ 144 points145 points  (20 children)

    Bro, you should train MMA.

    [–]NupSuckle[S] 178 points179 points  (17 children)

I wrestle and I’m planning on learning how to box :)

    [–]wondrwrk_ 31 points32 points  (0 children)

    Hell yeah. Good luck, brother.

    [–]Tru3insanity 435 points436 points  (100 children)

Super cool but be aware it can be a sign on genetic disease. I believe marfans syndrome presents with an unusually large arm span

    [–]Hostileovaries 230 points231 points  (30 children)

You are correct. /u/Nupsuckle should get checked if they haven't already. Marfans patients tend to have sudden heart issues.

    [–]desirewrites 84 points85 points  (17 children)

Hello. I have Marfan’s. It’s a severity scale. I present with the skeletal symptoms, including long wingspan and widespread joint hypermobility.

So they conclude that my connective tissue is shit, and have ruled out any existing heart conditions. But we know how the aorta balloons with time.

So I’m in a constant state of worry about getting my heart rate over 100bpm and it does spike to 130/140/180 while I’m going yoga sometimes. Deeep breaths and pain checks and I continue. But it’s always there, in the back of my mind. That it COULD happen. Not that it will, but it could, because they don’t bloody well know. It’s a wait and see thing. Manage symptoms as they arise. Change your life to support your condition.

There are worse things to have though.

Yeah... I'd label your heart exploding out of nowhere an "Issue".

    [–]Hostileovaries 21 points22 points  (7 children)

    Just a tiny one /s

But it can also lead to less severe valve malformations which would likely have been caught in routine medical checks, but I know some people aren't able to go to the doctor regularly.

It looks like they're going to get it checked out though

Came here to discuss connective tissue disorder.

    [–]ApprehensiveSand 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's worth getting checked, but it's not a sure thing if you do just have long arms/legs. I do, but had it confirmed to not be marfans.

    [–]Etcetera_and_soforth 16 points17 points  (0 children)

    And EDS! I’m 5’2 with a 5’9 wingspan

    [–]CustomerComplaintDep 268 points269 points  (26 children)

It can also be a sign of NBA potential. He should get checked for that, too.

Came here looking for a Marfan syndrome comment. Not disappointed.

    [–]me23421 36 points37 points  (5 children)

Yep, long arms, flexible joints (connective tissue in general), tall are the general symptoms

    [–]CheesyChapps 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was going to comment this, you’re right! I was tested for Marfan awhile ago but luckily they didn’t find anything.

    [–]emleigh2277 19 points20 points  (4 children)

Aside from being a fantastic cuddler what other super powers do those wings give you?

    [–]NupSuckle[S] 44 points45 points  (3 children)

The ability to always be picked first when I raise my hand , I can scratch my knee while standing which is perfect for mosquito bites , I can literally keep people an arms length away by putting my hand on their forehead , it’s basically a mini cheat in most sports haha , I can carry people a lot easier and there’s tons of other neat stuff :)

This the dude reaching out to you about your cars extended warranty

Check out Marfans Syndrome. Not a joke, it could be a life/death issue.

Are you extra flexible? Is your mouth palate extra deep? Are your facial features larger than normal? Is your schlong extra long (I’m not joking)? Are your hands extra large?

    [–]NupSuckle[S] 116 points117 points  (53 children)

Well , I’m near sighted and my hands are almost 9in but I’m not sure I have Marfrans I’ll definitely ask the next time I go to the hospital

    [–]EskimoJake 82 points83 points  (10 children)

Paediatrician here. I agree Marfan's is a possibility and you should see a doctor sooner than later as eye and heart complications shouldn't go unmonitored. You're very unlikely to die at 30 as another user mentioned but this doesn't mean you shouldn't get checked.

A quick test you can do to support the diagnosis is make a fist with your thumb tucked inside and see if the thumb protrudes beyond your little finger. The second one is to wrap your thumb and little finger aground the opposite wrist and see if they overlap. These would be suggestive if positive but won't rule it out if negative.

Edit: I should say that on the balance of probability you are likely fine and should just get a check up on the next few months is all

    [–]lanterncollector 28 points29 points  (1 child)

My exact thought the second I saw the picture. I saw it once during my cardiology rotation, never again, but it always crosses my mind.

    [–]ChrLagardesBoyToy 26 points27 points  (3 children)

Wait I have all of those. 6‘5, genetically slender, flexible, deep mouth palate, large facial features other than mouth, long schlong, large hands (though not big enough to overlap thumb and little finger around my wrists), positive wing span, very Short sighted, chest doesn’t really go outwards much, flat foot. Fuck. I really don’t wanna stop cardio. Thanks for making that comment, I’ll visit a professional. If I have it I’ll get back to you.

    [–]schmabey 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This was exactly my first thought too

    [–]pilotdog68 19 points20 points  (17 children)

So, uh, do you need all of these traits to have it? I'm tall, long-limbed (though not nearly as disproportionate as OP), hugely arched palate, crowded teeth, concave chest bone.

But no eyesight problems, no flat feet, no flexible joints .... and no giant schlong

    [–]the_moody_beard 12 points13 points  (3 children)

Dude you need to throw discus. You’d be perfect.

    [–]gnex30 9 points10 points  (2 children)

what about inseam? are your legs relatively long too?

I noticed that Simone Biles seems to have a little bit longer arms for her height and I think she uses that to her advantage in her sport. Ever try gymnastics?

    [–]NupSuckle[S] 22 points23 points  (1 child)

I have no idea how long my pants are , but my sister was a gymnast and sadly I discovered I am NOT flexible at all

    [–]mynameajeff69 8 points9 points  (5 children)

    That’s awesome. I’m like 5’6” with a 5 foot wingspan lmfaoo
