Eren didn't even finish what he had started!

Come on Eren, you can't give your father a hard time if you're not going to follow your own advice!

[–]takemeback10years 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Anime original ending please

[–]FlashyFlash0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Eren changes his mind, and finishes the Rumbling. It won't happen, but you can dream though.

I wish mikasa got a happy ending but it was impossible since I think most of us knew eren was going to die

[–]ComeBackAlonso 4 points5 points  (2 children)

is the annoyance just turning into sadness for y’all too?

A lot of it has been foreshadowed since Eren's fight against Annie all the way back in Season 1.
Armin: "Someone who can't sacrifice anything can never change anything! In order to overcome a monster, you must be willing to throw aside your humanity"

Eren: "You said none of it mattered, but... to me, it didn't look like you really believed that. I just thought you were terrible liar... Tell me, Annie. What are you fighting for? What could have been worth killing all those people?!" "I'll kill the titans! Every last one of them!" "I'll destroy the entire world!" "(While struggling his head and not even in control of himself anymore) I am free!"

Eren doesn't call Annie a monster like Armin does, rather he sees her as a person and humanizes her wondering what all the bloodshed she had caused could possibly be worth it all. He later finds out its to protect those she cares about and finds himself in the same position if not on a much higher scale.

King Fritz wished to lock away humanity ignorant of their situation inside the walls and wait for them all to die. This was indeed one answer. The other was to kill everyone that was gunning for them first. But if you kill soldiers, then you have to kill their children too who will grow up seeking revenge. You have to kill their mothers who will likewise do the same. You have to stomp out everyone who sees you as a threat after flattening entire nations. Fritz looked at his options and chose the easier one. To sacrifice nothing and wait for death to eventually come. Eren refused that and chose the second one instead. He chose to sacrifice everything for the survival of his people, who until he was well into being a teenager was literally all of humanity to him. And even then, he doesn't go all the way. Eren's shift in position is perfectly displayed in Chapter 138 when his head attaches to Bertholt's Colossal's corpse. He has become that omen of terror and death for the remainder of humanity. I find it fitting.

I wonder how this will affect the anime's rating?

Imagine GoT Season 8 had the 7th book finished in a flop, and no mention of a different ending, would ratings tanked further?

[–]H-K_47[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The manga's rating immediately dropped on MyAnimeList after the chapter, though not a huge amount. It's still one of the highest rated manga.

It doesn't seem to have affected the ratings of the anime seasons, but S4P2 probably won't reach the heights of previous seasons once it's finished.

[–]wecas 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Thought on extra pages for ch139 in vol34 book?

[–]RoomierCanine24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as it fills up plot holes then the ending is perfect. Yes some people didn’t like erens character including me but a lot of people also did like it and isayama can’t please everyone with the ending that he chooses. The ending just needs to make sense which is the problem atm coz there are a few plot holes

[–]ComeBackAlonso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it for 139 or in addition to 139?

[–]mcrabbit4869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope it’ll help reinforce the chapter more

[–]Discordisbetter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s a bruh moment

[–]jyooyyoo[🍰] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I heard a crap that yams editing the murderer panel is just a rumor... is this believable?

[–]Picknade2 2 points3 points  (10 children)

Unpopular opinion ending was good

[–]Ancient_Paint2947 1 point2 points  (4 children)

The only real flaw of the chapter to me is the not ending Reiner character's developement

[–]Picknade2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree I felt reiner had improved it alot and developed

[–]fraidyfish5 0 points1 point  (2 children)

How were Mikasa's memories erased?

[–]Picknade2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the chained founding titan coundlt

But erens free one could probably because the ackermans were titan products and titan = eldian

[–]Schwiftyc 13 points14 points  (4 children)

nah man, that's the popular opinion, although maybe not on this subreddit...

[–]---Amon--- 8 points9 points  (1 child)

  1. That's the manga subreddit, rest are anime&manga so the community here is the core pretty much.

  2. Every poll has ended with people disliking the ending of the manga above 50% (the polls were posted in other subreddits and discord channels not only here btw)

[–]Schwiftyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right but I just feel that there's a lot of people out there who don't really care too much about the story and just thought it was fine and don't post on forums and stuff, but I could be wrong.

[–]Nightmancer2036 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Eren didn’t kill his mom btw

Here- , 5:04-6:10

[–]Schwiftyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's still not really known though, but I'd say it was Ymir too.

that epic face she made when grabbing Armin's shoulders while standing behind him will forever haunt me

[–]TurbTheCurb 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Season 3 part 2 is about 2 years old now. That makes me sad

[–]lraK_ztirF 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Reiner and Eren's rivalry kinda ended with a thud. I remember the final exhibition hyping them up as "who will survive?" "Only one can live!" Yeah, Eren died but not by Reiner's hands.

[–]Estellar123 28 points29 points  (14 children)

I hated the ending. I read the manga knowing the ending and the ending still doesn’t make sense. This video sums up my problems with it.

If I could have an alternate ending, I would start changing it at the point in the story where Eren hugs Ymir and sees her backstory. Eren tells Ymir that she does not have to be a slave and that she can be free. Ymir then proceeds to release all of her rage and anger that she’s pent up over the last 2000 years and starts up the rumbling. She does this because she has had to endure so much pain in both her own life and the lives she witnessed her descendants having (ties in with the theme that humanity can be evil and the cycle of violence). Both Eren and Zeke realize the monster that they just unleashed into the world and try to stop her but she brainwashes them with her founding powers. Right before Ymir brainwashes Eren, Eren sends out a message to Mikasa and the rest of the group telling them what happened and that he’s about to be brainwashed by Ymir. Ymir then erases everyone’s memory from Erens warning but isn’t able to take away these memories from Mikasa and Levi due to them being Ackerman.

Ymir then create her original titan form in real life and she becomes this terrifying monster that’s leading the rumbling- with a brainwashed Eren and Zeke beside her. The team is also brainwashed and goes along with Ymir’s will/plan except for Levi and Mikasa.

Levi kills Zeke and Mikasa kills Eren in his titan form because there was no other way. Ymir sees this and realizes that, although Mikasa loved Eren, she could still kill him for the benefit of the world and realizes that she, Ymir, could too. It would help if at this point we got more flashbacks from Ymir explaining her relationship with the king in more detail so that we could understand why she felt the way she did better and how mikasa and eren parallels her own past.

Ymir stops the rumbling, cries and then comes to accept that humanity/love can be beautiful and lets go. She then truly “dies” along with all the other Titans causing the rumbling and the titan power is truly gone from this world while only parts of Marley were affected by the rumbling. Ymir is reincarnated as historias baby and Armin writes a book about everything that happened and Erens tale so that they could start having the world understand their point of view and make peace with paradis. The end.

Edit: Grammar

[–]Deadmandream 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Then create your own manga you ungrateful bastard

Alteast That's what some idiot would say.

[–]Vanzgars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had me in the first half, not gonna lie.

[–]LulitaBarcentina 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I liked the ending (so I don't feel sooo disappointed I gave it 3/5) but I think the alternative you just wrote is nice. It makes more sense, sums up the message Isayama what trying to make and just conclude the character of Ymir pretty well. There were 2 things I disliked about the ending: first, the bug that gave everyone the power of titans just disappeared like it never existed and second, we never truly undertood what Ymir felt or thought.

[–]Estellar123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. Thanks!

[–]TheTexasRattlesnake 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Stick to being a reader

[–]Estellar123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Care to elaborate or

[–]inaszzz 32 points33 points  (10 children)

Why is everyone forgetting Annie’s actions. She literally killed the Levi squad and other comrades. They forgave her like it was nothing.

[–]Deadmandream 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And Reiner too, he destroyed the wall and let titans killed most of the civilians. And now they're called "heroes" and "ambassadors of peace" ohh fuck off. Yea tell them everything Armin including the warcrimes you guys committed.

[–]ThePreciseClimber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She was just a little Vegeto-loco back then.

[–]lkjhgfdhgfd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

never forget :(

[–]ShortandRatchet 13 points14 points  (1 child)

No one acknowledged that she was probably the closest to evil out of the Titan trio.

[–]iellouu 14 points15 points  (8 children)

I don't know if I'm stupid but I don't understand anything. Which is the reason for Eren to kill 80% of the world? Because he was angry? Because he wanted his friends to stop him and become the heros? I truly don't understand it, could someone explain?

[–]wwerek 5 points6 points  (2 children)

People of Paradis were behind the world in terms of technology, so they would be wiped out fast after losing they titan powers because of what Eren did. Wiping 80% of humanity guaranteed that there will be no war for some time and Paradis could come at peace with the world.

edit: fixing some wording

[–]warhea 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Wipe out the whole of humanity if your going to kill 80% anyway lol

[–]theatras 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Only Ymir knows bro. Only Ymir knows.

[–]leviisdeadlol 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Lmao SO. It’s been a week since I read the final chapter, and let me just say- I still cry every day because of it. Not the cute ‘shed a couple tears and move on’ cry, I’m talking the ugly cry, where you’re gasping for air and screaming into a pillow and clinging onto whatever you can, as tight as you can because you don’t know what else to do.

I am so happy, but sad at the same time. I think the ending was absolutely amazing in most aspects, hence why I’m happy.

Why am I sad, you ask? Because I’ve been invested in SnK since I was in 6th grade, when my parents decided to finally let me watch it. I’m in 11th now. I’ve grown so emotionally attached to the series, and the characters. I hold so much love in my heart for them, even though some might say that they’re ‘just drawings’, they were more than that to me. I wouldn’t be who I am today without the series. When I came out as trans, I had no idea what name I wanted to pick. I felt like nothing suited me. And I was so upset, thinking to myself, ‘maybe I’m not even trans...’, until it popped into my head. “Levi”. I related to Levi a lot throughout the series as far as I had gotten at the time. He was especially close to my heart for reasons I can’t even explain. Now Levi has been my name for around 2.5 years.

The series taught me so much, the struggles of friendship, betrayal, and the reality of death. I’m so appreciative for it.

I wish everyone could have gotten a happy ending. I wish Mikasa could have kissed Eren when he way alive. I wish he could have kissed back. I wish that all those people never died. They all deserved so much. They were all so strong for so long. They fought a good fight, and now the fight is over.

No more new chapters, no more wondering what happens next, no more waiting. It’s bittersweet. I’m really struggling with letting go, but I know it’s something I’ll have to do eventually. I know that every good thing comes to an end, but damn, it hurts.

I’m so thankful to everyone who worked on the series, who made it come to life. It’s brought so many of us together, forming so many amazing relationships.

Sorry for the long rant but I needed to get it out somewhere, and I figured here, with people who understand, would be best.

[–]aabyt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, thank you for the long ass rant. ur thoughts actually resonate with me the most out of any content ive consumed after reading the mangga.

fuck yes i understand the duality of happiness and sadness u feel. im not into the whole be happy cause it happened bullshit nawh id rather be a grown man crying bec the story ends here. I also really wouldve wanted a better ending for mikasa such as a life with eren but there was simply just no other way.

i dont hate the ending simply because i want to accept whatever isayama came up with since its HIS story and its the only way it wouldve been authentic.

i honestly only got into the anime/mangga this year BUT GOD i already feel so attached so i could only image what the day 1s go through

levi is a really great choice for a name. im happy for u. heres my playlist for missing everyone in the series

[–]SleepingwithHistoria 45 points46 points  (3 children)

If new Isayama wrote the Return to Shiganshina arc:

[–]Imperator_Romulus476 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Erwin: dies

Levi: Gets placed under Hange's authority

[–]Imfenna 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Then in some crazy twist both Erwin and Armin live

[–]SleepingwithHistoria 18 points19 points  (0 children)

When I get older

I will be stronger

They call me freedom

[–]domi6y1 25 points26 points  (18 children)

Why do other subreddits hate us like the SnK subreddit when we’re just giving valid criticism. Like even though I’m a eremika shipper it kinda came out of no where

[–]NaughtySl0th 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because other subs aren't as invested in the story, don't read into it as deeply, and/or are afraid of criticism

[–]richardtengcy -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

becoz titanfolk speculate and overhype the ending.....Isayama gave the ending a mellow finale whereas Titanfolk expect a grand unexpected twist like Eren surviving the story with Historia baby being the reincarnated Ymir (Eren/Historia newborn)

[–]domi6y1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah but the final arc was rushed and imo wasn’t that good

[–]TommorowWillBeOkay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just my guess, but maybe because they feel like the subreddit also shits on people who like the ending.

[–]lkjhgfdhgfd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

and they hated him because he spoke the truth

[–]Imperator_Romulus476 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Why do other subreddits hate us like the SnK subreddit when we’re just giving valid criticism. Like even though I’m a eremika shipper it kinda came out of no where

I have no idea. They generally like to smear this sub here as toxic. Sure we have edgy jokes, but things generally have been civil here. But when we have a disagreement with them, they start using strawman arguments against this sub.

[–]Farobek 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cuz they are ruled by Marleyans. But we are not. We are free

[–]LilBottomText17 0 points1 point  (3 children)

random question but i need some help looking for a youtube channel. there was a funny girl that made reaction videos to aot chapters and she was fairly popular but i forgot her channel name. i wanted to see her reaction to ch 139 but i can’t find her channel anywhere. anyone know if she deactivated?

[–]PuzzleheadedDentist1 16 points17 points  (5 children)

Not tryna be mean but its soo trash. Season 1-Season 3 part 1 is 9/10 Season 3 part 2 is 10/10 Season 4 is around 9/10 and ending is 4-5/10

[–]SleepingwithHistoria 2 points3 points  (4 children)

[–]MyCatisaStripper 3 points4 points  (3 children)

it's not over, there's gold in there. Anime literally gets to give the ending another shot.

paralell awesomeness: miaksa at the tree from beginning. Armin convinvig people not to shoot (just like trost arc start), it answers why grisha said to stop eren logically, it shows that Eren was human and his weakest side was only shard with Armin...at the end. Levi's death is amazing, and the berthold/mom tian killing will be better done.

See you later commenters.

[–]EclipseGodessNot4 27 points28 points  (3 children)

After some thought and seeing others opinions on the chapter, there's a reason why Isayama finished Erens story the way he did. Many people who disliked the chapter point to the panel of Eren being a little bitch boy crying about wanting to be with Mikasa. His little temper tantrum is oddly fitting for him since after gaining the founding titans power he has always been in the body or mindset of a child whenever we saw him in the Paths showing why he would be acting like a child in the last chapter. It also shows his humanity is still there even after becoming basically God. Eren for four years was alone as he pushed everyone away so that he can accomplish his goals. He always values his friends freedom over anything else. That is why he was willing to die for Historia, willing to be the spy in Marley, and willing to sacrifice his own life, humanity, and freedom for everyone on Paradis. Eren throwing a tantrum isn't a good way to show his love for Mikasa but up till this point he has been moving forward and never doing things for his own sake, only doing what he thought was best for Paradis. Given Eren his last couple lines of dialogue in Attack on Titan of his own wants and needs feels rewarded to him after suffering through so much. Is he justified to have happiness, no. The only thing he gets in the end is a proper resting place with the girl he loves ending the story right where it started, on a tree on top of a hill.

[–]Gengai007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not that I dislike what Isayama was going for, but it felt so out of place and incredibly cringe. I’m finding a lot of comments recently that praise the chapter by abstracting the events of the story and reframing character arcs in disingenuous “takes” as if having a single consistent theme or idea is enough for something to be a masterpiece. I guess people have to rationalise wasting years on a manga by pretending that it was more complicated, consistent or poignant than it really was.

[–]One_Metal_5750 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thats one of the best takes I've ever head and I completely agree. I couldn't have said it better myself.

[–]DharshanVik 9 points10 points  (5 children)

While I didn’t like the ending and I only started reading last year, I still loved the story that Isayama gave us. For example, I always thought that Eren and Mikasa would end the series as a couple and live happily ever after. Maybe that was naive of me but I was always cheering for them. One thing that maybe make you feel better is to think about the good times. Think about how season 1 to season 3 felt. Think about how engaged we were in praying that Eren lived, they he would plug the hole, he would beat Annie and avenge Levi’s squad and others. Think of erwins charge, Historia protecting Eren, all the training moments, the funny times. This series may have not ended the way I wanted it too, but the first three series of the anime were so well done that I wanted to read from the start and know more info while waiting for s4 to drop. And lastly, you may even enjoy part of s4. AoT’s anime has never failed me so far and I might even appreciate the ending more, even if I don’t enjoy it thanks to the voice acting, the epic soundtracks AoT is famous for and the beautiful intro and outro cutscenes. I will hope that AoT will have a good last anime season and can’t wait to watch them this year!!

[–]vk136 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Mikasa and eren did live happily for 4 years in paths

[–]DharshanVik 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Yes I know that. However, that isn’t a satisfying ending for my point of view. Like I said, I wanted the final panel to end with them.
