That cat looks like he just crossed the Sahara, and crashed in an oasis, only to find the water access locked.

[–]Junting_ 594 points595 points  (10 children)

And unlocked by a mysterious thing

[–]llagerlof 411 points412 points  (7 children)

Not mysterious. One of his slaves unlocked the water.

[–]explainswomen 71 points72 points  (2 children)

If the slaves control the water are they really slaves?

He who controls the water controls the universe

[–]Enygma_6 56 points57 points  (1 child)

That can’t be the only source of water, cat would rather yell at the slaves to provide for him than go hunt down an unlocked source.
Just because the king has cooks to feed him, does not mean the kitchen staff is truly in charge.

[–]gatorbeetle 91 points92 points  (0 children)

TRUTH! Cat Slave Here, I can attest to this statement.

[–]Tasty__Poutine 43 points44 points  (0 children)

'Prepared to lick up the water in case humans give up before thirst quenched.'

i Know that there is water here,

alas, i cannot get...

but i'll wait til a friend comes near

n helps me with the wet!

here comes one now...'oh, Please - meeOow!

kind friend - i need a hand!

i'm thirsty, but i don't know how...

oh, Yes! you understand'... :}

n then - the drink! he did the trick,

a human friend, so kind

n when he's gone, i still can lick

the puddle

left behind

What's a schnoodle

[–]Churchboy44 102 points103 points  (0 children)

The redditor who posted the poem, they're known for randomly putting poems on threads

[–]Street-Week-380 71 points72 points  (6 children)

A very sweet redditor who posts wonderful poems about animals. You'll spot her more frequently now that you know what a schnoodle is.

[–]GUDApollo 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Never been this early for your comment before. Badass

Love what you add to this site homie!

[–]_CitizenSnips_ 147 points148 points  (61 children)

How long does the average poem take you?

[–]SchnoodleDoodleDo 1150 points1151 points 323 (57 children)

sometimes minutes flying by,

your posts n comments read

but something then will catch my eye -

a poem starts in my head

i hear the voices of the pets,

the feelings they impart...

i write my thoughts, with no regrets

with whimsy from my heart

n tho they're not for everyone,

if it makes One friend smile

a better day, a bit of fun -

then it's been

All worthwhile

[–]_CitizenSnips_ 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Haha I know right.. blown away I even got a response let alone a fly rhyme. Schnoodle is one of the greatest

[–]adolphehuttler 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm impressed by how quick and off the cuff this was. You truly have a gift.

And I agree, you should write a children's book about cute things that animals do. It would be a runaway success!

[–]billy_sitch 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Thank you Schnoodle.....we all love you & your beautiful poetry.

[–]phat742 14 points15 points  (0 children)

i love finding a schnoodle in the wild.

[–]Nerd_bottom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would have pushed that button for literally as long as the cat was drinking the water.

[–]Tinshnipz 40 points41 points  (1 child)

My cat is like this all the time. We have an automatic flow fountain for her and sometimes we put the tub water on for her.

In the flow fountain she lies down with half her body in the pool of water.

In the tub she sticks her head under the stream so the water bounces off unto the wall and she licks the wall.

[–]Shutinneedout 281 points282 points  (0 children)

I hope he hadn’t been waiting long

[–]idma 83 points84 points  (2 children)

if the internet has taught me one thing, is that cats are okay with water from a faucet soaking their heads

[–]waxillium_ladrian 20 points21 points  (1 child)

How cold is that room/how hot is that water that steam is rising up from the sink?

[–]SmoreBrownie 29 points30 points  (0 children)

In the winter when it's really dry in my house, I'll sometimes get "steam" rising up from the cold kitchen sink with just lukewarm water. I'm assuming it's something like that, rather than someone letting their cat play with scalding hot water.

[–]Tactically_Fat 24 points25 points  (4 children)

Or it's just a damned lazy cat that has a literal bowl of water nearby; yet prefers to have trained humans turn on the running water so he can drink. I may be thinking about my own cat here...

[–]wolfgang784 178 points179 points  (1 child)

That was my first thought too. Poor kitty.

[–]Fraerie 358 points359 points  (86 children)

Cats are desert adapted and typically get most of the water they need from their food. To be that thirsty the cat might be sick or a diabetic. I had a diabetic cat for years and the vet used to get me to track how much she drank as it was an indicator as to whether the disease was well controlled or not.

[–]TubiDaorArya 398 points399 points  (41 children)

Cats also love streaming water as they can be sure it’s clean, so kitty might just like it! And the foods we feed them can be dry food, so maybe it doesn’t get any from it

edit: so I’m gonna try to respond to the commenters, but if you’re reading this now and your cat loves running water in any way or form, you should consider a water fountain like this !

[–]MrsKnutson 102 points103 points  (4 children)

Like my cat who just likes to play in the sink (tries to bite the water, not drink it)

[–]MachinistAtWork 15 points16 points  (3 children)

Sounds broken, you might consider sending it back to get fixed.

[–]jmerridew124 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Instructions unclear. Testicles missing

[–]nor0- 84 points85 points  (6 children)

One of my cats drinks from the water dish normal and is totally healthy but cries until I turn the tap on for him any time I am in the bathroom.

[–]69-is-my-number 31 points32 points  (0 children)

My daughter’s too. Hears my electric toothbrush start: ZOOM! Straight up onto the vanity, expecting to play with a stream of water.

[–]yeahhh-nahhh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same with my boofhead he has 4 bowls of water around the house, 3 X 1.5L dishes, 1x $100 powered filtered water cat bowl. But still insists on jumping up on the sink to drink and swat at the running water🤷🤪

[–]ichbinsooookreativ 26 points27 points  (1 child)

My cat doesn't like wet food so he drinks a lot of water. He even like water that's sitting for a few days or rain water the most.

[–]analogue7[🍰] 10 points11 points  (4 children)

2 of my former cats (they are in heaven now) loved to drink from a just flushed toilet. You had to be careful stepping out of the bathroom, because they would be waiting Outsider to rush in. Don't know if this was really clean though..

[–]Top_Criticism 9 points10 points  (2 children)

My cat rushes into the shower as soon as I'm done and starts licking all the little water droplets off the floor. He starts aggressively meowing if I take too long

[–]TubiDaorArya 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well you’re bathing in her water bowl, duh

[–]stormbard 7 points8 points  (1 child)

They will drink more water if there is no moisture in the food. Food isn't the only place they get moisture from just the most common for felines if given a wet food diet.

[–]Reacher-Said-N0thing 145 points146 points  (12 children)

To be that thirsty the cat might be sick or a diabetic.

I got two cats that aren't sick or diabetic, just drink an obscene amount of water. They make about a bowling ball sized bag worth of kitty litter clumps every day. Sometimes they'll just sit there going lap lap lap lap at the water bowl for 5 or 10 minutes straight.

It's cause I encouraged them to drink water all their lives, and I leave water everywhere, in every kind of cup and container. Vet says they are at the lowest risk for urinary obstructions, which are quite common in male cats.

They are 16 years old and they run and jump and play and rest and relax and stretch, they couldn't look happier or healthier.

EDIT: Cat tax - that is 16yo Calvin drinking out of one of his many water spots. That one is their favourite, a tall juice pitcher full of water that I change once a day. I would have thought it was the height, but his second favourite is to drink puddles out of the bathtub, so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[–]bobfrombobtown 26 points27 points  (4 children)

This kind of hit me right in the feels. I had a cat, his name was Kat. While I was away for a while he was at my mom's and he died of a urinary obstruction. I miss him.

[–]rhet17 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Love that Kat name. When I was a kid a neighbour name their cat Ceefor..seefer? anyway it was her little joke to tell people who asked, " It's C for Cat!"

[–]Trishlovesdolphins 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Yep, I had one that constantly drank, played, and just sat in water. She passed on New Years Day. She was 20. She was deaf and had brain damage from birth, and no one expected her to live more than a year or 2. We picked her up as a 4 week old kitten in a parking lot. Mom had been killed and all the other kittens were gone. She loved being cuddled, like even for a cat. She was a damn good kitty. We miss her.

[–]zibbels 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My 3 year old male had to go in for urinary obstruction last summer. $1400 bill and a nice two night stay. Now I have an pet fountain for my babies and they are on expensive urinary care food. Have not had an issue since thankfully.

[–]koshkabeans 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Kidney disease for cats as well. They need tons of water.

[–]GildedLily16 44 points45 points  (6 children)

That's not necessarily true. My cats eat kibble-type dry food, and we have a water fountain for them. They drink water all the time and they aren't sick.

[–]gwaydms 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I have tried to get my cats to eat wet food. They love it at first, then start leaving a lot in the dish. So I but the best dry food I can. Lately I've been using Blue Buffalo Indoor Health Chicken and Rice. Corn can be problematic, and this stuff has much more meat than rice. Smaller, less smelly poops are a bonus.

We keep fresh water in an easily-cleaned steel bowl.

[–]smoothnoodz 25 points26 points  (6 children)

I have two cats, one senior and one kitten and they both drink tons of water from their kitty water fountain. I’ve never heard of cats not needing water before.

[–]OneOddGit 12 points13 points  (10 children)

Tracking your cats water consumption must have been a pain in the ass. I think I’d have to put a camera on his water bowl or something.

[–]Butterflyelle 9 points10 points  (1 child)

So oddly it's not as hard as you imagine. You just need to measure the amount of water you put in the bowl and then the amount left at the end of the day and make sure the pet doesn't have access to any other water (shut them in). If you have another pet that isn't ill the vet can even still work out how much water the ill pet drank by subtracting the average amount for that breed/species to drink in a day as it tends to vary less than people imagine.

[–]OneOddGit 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m told very often that I always choose the hardest path to anything. You’ve reminded me of that hahaha

[–]acsny97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean this fully depends on diet. If this is a runaway (which I'd assume to be the case judging how calm it was when the person in the video approached it) who's used to dry food they will definitely drink much more water than your average feral.

Not to mention that cats love flowing water.

[–]GreenTea874 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It’s fuckin heartbreaking that it’s even in that situation, I woulda tried to bring it to the vet and adopt it

[–]bluebowpacify 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know that’s what what I was thinking! Poor baby, and that meow was the most plaintive sounding meow I’ve ever heard, oh gosh.

[–]marigoldilocks_ 928 points929 points  (9 children)

Little buddy. :( So thirsty and tired!

[–]GoobeNanmaga 176 points177 points  (5 children)

My heart sank when he got the water at last

[–]xyierz 136 points137 points  (1 child)

"My heart soared" i think is the idiom you wanted there.

[–]RegularWhiteShark 10 points11 points  (2 children)

Why did it sink?

[–]AdmonishedSkunk 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s a water fountain, not a sink.

[–]BobbiTheElephant 262 points263 points  (0 children)

Oooh, the most polite meow in history 😍

[–]AtomicTaintKick 1288 points1289 points  (6 children)

Even muted, I could hear that meow.

[–]Niavart 443 points444 points  (2 children)

it was the cutest meow

[–]The_pun_fart 139 points140 points  (0 children)

Sure was thirsty. Look at that little hydro homie go.

[–]workaccount2424 45 points46 points  (1 child)

Wow I just realized that I thought i heard it but it was muted. I hallucinated the meow.

[–]Major--Major 1029 points1030 points  (32 children)

[–]Orangesilk 940 points941 points  (22 children)

[–]PearShapedComics 164 points165 points  (6 children)

Anyone else think for a half second it was playing MGMT's "Kids" at the beginning? But no... just actual kids at a park.

[–]FancyAdult 501 points502 points  (16 children)

I had a cat like this who would drink out of the facet. He knew how to turn it on, but not turn it off.

[–]tophernator 600 points601 points  (6 children)

He knew how to turn it off as well. He just didn’t care.

[–]nmoney000 213 points214 points  (0 children)

Yeah, why would he turn off the water source. He's very confused about why you keep turning it off

[–]FancyAdult 46 points47 points  (3 children)

Likely. He was sort of a jerk. He was my brothers cat when we were roommates. We had a menagerie of Pets at that time. We have a miniature macaw named Bingo! He would fly around the apartment and had all the climbing things. He was a little asshole. We also had a parrot and a monitor lizard. And my cat, she had attachment issues.

We were 18 and 20 at the time! It was a disaster!! And became a mess and I was stoned a lot of the time. But we worked for a veterinary clinic, so the animals were cared for very well.

[–]NathWindu 9 points10 points  (1 child)

this is all that is going through my head

(If you saw all the edits I just did, I really couldn't get my head around the bracket order for linking stuff)

[–]castfam09 1220 points1221 points  (28 children)

Please sir I just want some water and I have no posable thumbs

[–]Wootery 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Cat's got a plan.

Human: I've seen a water fountain before. You press the button to make the water come out.

Cat: I've seen a water fountain before. You wait for a human to make the water come out.

[–]pokemaster889 38 points39 points  (0 children)

No posable thumbs, want potable water

[–]mrbofus 245 points246 points  (21 children)

[–]scottstot8543 371 points372 points  (7 children)

I think the cat says "posable".

[–]gatorbeetle 152 points153 points  (5 children)

Agreed...kittens would say 'posable

[–][deleted]  (4 children)

    [–]opalelement 41 points42 points  (1 child)

    Paw not so able

    [–]TheVintageMeme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

    [–]demoralising 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was going to say pawsoable, so I'll have to made do with pussible.

    [–]castfam09 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not I did first type opposable thumbs and then changed my mind lol ... I thank you for the correction

    [–]TheGrumpyre 19 points20 points  (8 children)

Maybe it's like possum and opossum

    [–]skratta_ho 12 points13 points  (5 children)

The possum v. opossum story is very weird

    [–]iminthewrongsong 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I didn't know they have opposable thumbs on their feet! I just met one in my yard last week. He was very polite and chatty. I got cute pics.

    [–]liza129 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are great little tick eaters as well. I love them!

    [–]dastimba 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Reading that made me vaguely angry. Why *spell* it with an "o" if you aren't going to pronounce it when that other spelling is RIGHT THERE and ALSO CORRECT?!

    [–]adgebruh 1741 points1742 points 2 (28 children)

The thought of the kitty sitting there trying to get some water breaks my fucking heart

Edit: hey thanks my first reddit award!

    [–]The_Bitter_Bear 929 points930 points  (21 children)

It could be it figured out people will turn it on for them. So it just goes there regularly for easy water and there are enough nice people out there that it usually works.

    [–]Sareneia 699 points700 points  (3 children)

Honestly I think it's this. Looks very friendly and used to humans, plus it barely startled at water suddenly spraying it from underneath so it probably knows what the fountain does.

    [–]pegothejerk 130 points131 points  (2 children)

The ears, however, tell you how low it prefers the stream.

    [–]OG_Felwinter 60 points61 points  (1 child)

I think the only noticeable differences in its body language are when the water level changes (not at any specific level) and when there are loud noises in the background. Doesn’t look like it cares what height the stream is at.

    [–]Themasterofcomedy209 145 points146 points  (13 children)

this is probably what's going on. My cat will sit by sinks and wait for people to turn them on, despite having an easier to access fresh water bowl.

I think they prefer running water because that means it's more likely to be clean

    [–]Malari_Zahn 106 points107 points  (7 children)

My cats have fountains. Clean fountains. Clean, full fountains. They still insist I turn on the bathroom faucets.

    [–]neanderthalman 131 points132 points  (2 children)

It’s not about the water. It’s about you knowing your place in the relationship.

    [–]nmagnolia 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My cats never went for the fountains. I couldn’t get them to like or use the fountains I bought for them. But every time I went into the bathroom, I had better turn on the sink, boy, or I’d hear about it!

Plus, these cats were originally my sister’s cats. She (not her husband, though, because he is a good and decent man) taught them to drink water from a glass and generally discouraged any type of manners or discipline in her cats. Before you scoff at me, keep in mind I am an amateur professional cat herder and wrangler. It’s not really as hard as it sounds!

    Edit: spellin’

    [–]MassSpecFella 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every time I brush my teeth my cats appear at the faucet. They love the water. They have their own fountain too.

    [–]gealuisa 5 points6 points  (2 children)

My cats want to drink water from my glass so every time they see me drink I have to fill up their own little glass.

    [–]TaxAvoision 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is actually the most likely explanation. Cats don’t require that much water and can go a few days without it, either out of necessity or spite. They can also be finicky about where they eat/drink. This cat is probably adjusted to having humans help it out and now just prefers to drink from the fountain. If you’ve seen a cat that likes to catch drips from a faucet, it’s kind of like that. Indoor, outdoor, stray, feral, whatever... cats are just kinda weird.

Edit: Upon rewatch, that cat doesn’t look distressed, dehydrated, or even malnourished. It’s just manipulating humans because cat.

    [–]duaneap 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it doesn’t look desperate tbh, looks like it’s just got this shit figured out.

    [–]SecTrono 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol breaks my heart until i realize that there is probably plenty of water sources but that cat will only drink THAT water.

    [–]SentientHemroid 285 points286 points  (3 children)

Wholesome indeed great job. Happy cat happy life.

    [–]Drimoss 219 points220 points  (37 children)

Kitty looks so tired. I would hug him or give him pets.

    [–]beluuuuuuga 56 points57 points  (36 children)

    I would give him scratches.

    [–]mumooshka 75 points76 points  (8 children)

looks like a stray in need of water

I hope it's ok after that water... and has shelter.

    [–]kvior1 62 points63 points  (7 children)

The video looks like from Israel. Believe me - Israeli stray cats not required shelter. Here are crowds of the people taking care of them.

    [–]mumooshka 13 points14 points  (0 children)

    That's good to know..

    [–]kryzzztal 19 points20 points  (2 children)

Turkey also cares for stray animals. It’s simply respect for life, regardless of species.

    [–]kvior1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yah, I see many videos from Turkey about this.

Also noted the stray dogs there are friendly.

We haven't stray dogs in Israel.

    [–]Acoolgrandma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It reminded me of the miraflores cat park in Peru. Same situation where the cats basically own that part of the city. They even get taken to the vet.

    [–]gourdilefrog 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That ain't no kitten! But it is one Thirsty AF cat. Poor baby!

    [–]Tr3ywayy 110 points111 points  (1 child)

Legend has it that cat is still drinking

    [–]The-Tea-Lord 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I would hope it’s still drinking.

    [–]TheDamnMountains 34 points35 points  (14 children)

That looks a lot like the water fountains we have here at Israel! :) Where is this video from?

    [–]junior_dos_nachos 14 points15 points  (12 children)

Looks like Park HaYarkon to me

Did the cat have a collar or was it a stray?

      [–]7hurricane 26 points27 points  (2 children)

I wondered this too. It didn’t look like it had a collar. I hope it has a home, but if not, we need to give this kitty some (more) love! Such a cutie

Poor thirsty baby! Thank you for helping.

You never know who or what has licked the faucet

      [–]paradox1701 100 points101 points  (6 children)

I dont think the cat cares.

      [–]NicNoletree 53 points54 points  (5 children)

Yeah, have you seen what they lick?

      [–]AceQuality_ 52 points53 points  (2 children)

Ahhh yes, another reason I don’t drink from public fountains, but yes indeed cute

      [–]ahpathy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

People actually drink from public fountains? Even during a pandemic? The last time I remember drinking from one was probably 3rd grade then I saw someone put their lips on it. Vowed to never drink from one again.

Yea they are fucking rank and this is a perfect of example of why.

      [–]passamongimpure 26 points27 points  (0 children)

      Hydro Hommie

      [–]BrainArrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can almost see the cat inflating cartoon water-balloon style.

      [–]WillMole_ 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Is no one gonna mention how gross that is? Like people have to use that after it’s literally licking the exit for water

      [–]qckfox 55 points56 points  (8 children)

is this cat a stray? Try to get him to a vet he could have kidney problems which is why he is so desperate to drink

Being prepared to sit in the water and get his tummy drenched like that just in order to drink isn't normal

Also try to get him rehomed

Sitting on a drinking fountain in a park is no life

      [–]benrsmith77 27 points28 points  (1 child)

Yup, cats are originally desert creatures and need little water compared to other mammals.

Excess thirst is a huge warning sign in cats.

My first thought after seeing how long he was drinking was diabetes. I hope he’s okay.

Honestly, I don't know why anyone assumes that r/aww posts are OC anymore.

Y'all need to check the user's post history more.

      [–]azeemm2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's probably a stray but looks like it knows what fountain does and is a regular at whatever park this is. I think that's also why it's completely unfazed by the water hitting it's belly. This looks like a hotter climate area and I'm guessing it's somewhere in Turkey where strays are treated extremely well and have pretty much acclimated with human society. It probably wasn't even waiting long just knows how to look cute to get what it wants, sly bugger

      [–]JuliaLumina 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Andd this is why we don’t drink from public faucets. Cute tho ofcourse :)

      [–]trwwy321 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Cat: I was just sunbathing, but sure, guess I’ll drink some water

      [–]forgotusernamedamnit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

And this is another reason to not use park water fountains.

      [–]0n33L0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This little vid right here made my day. Thank you for this.

      [–]sandeep466 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After the cat's head was up, All I can read from the cat's expression was "ok, stop now...STOP.......STOOOOPPPP...OMG he is not gonna stop.. OMG I can feel my stomach filling...I am gonna throw up now..."

      [–]doovan 2 points3 points  (0 children)
