I'm...still waiting on it. Pre-ordered it a week before release and it supposedly shipped on the 17th. Still awaiting carrier pickup. But I'm still excited to play Sunshine again.

[–]koolerthan 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I'm considering getting it b/c I've never played these 3 Mario games. Worth it?

[–]nightwing0243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely yes.

Mario 64 has things about it that hasn't aged well. But the level design and structure of the gamw - as in going back and doing levels again with different goals to get power stars kinda started here. Every level is a mini playground. You'll see why Odyssey is considered the spiritual successor to it. Mind you, I do think Odyssey is a better game. But 64 is still a very addictive experience and the sharper visuals are a nice touch.

Sunshine is a wild ride. It's a bit "out there" with its story, character and visuals. But it has the unique mechanic mixed with very nice tight controls and it is put to extremely good use.

Galaxy is the only one I haven't played (wasn't a huge fan of the Wii). But I hear it's one of the best Mario games out there. It's why I think people weren't happy with Galaxy 2 not being included.

But yeah. If you've never played them it's 100% worth it.

[–]Heero1988[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!!!!! I only sparingly played mario 64 and found it a bit difficult as an adult mostly due to the 64 not translating well to modern TVs. The switch version makes it feel the same but the visuals are fixed. Kind of hoping nintendo starts to hit a remaster trend on some old titles.

[–]ilikebooty345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more I’m playing sunshine, there’s no way nintendo didn’t touch up the water graphics right?

[–]Jatseee 4 points5 points  (3 children)

I'm so irritated. I preordered from bestbuy the morning it was announced and they shipped it last Wednesday. I find out Friday that its been delayed, but it said it was still being delivered. I wasn't getting any updates so I contact customer support and they tell me that my package was lost. Literally so irritating

[–]Rencomox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me but with Amazon. I pre-ordered the same day as pre orders went live on Amazon, then they delayed delivery from Friday, and when they "delivered" it, they marked it as delivered but there was no package actually delivered

[–]ballhernia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You happen to be in the hurricane sally effected area?

[–]ivanfromtarget666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should've ordered from target

[–]Kaenu_Reeves 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I’m getting an entitled vibe from Nintendo’s fanbase . Like everyone was saying “where’s mah sunshine on mah switch” and everyone now wants a remaster? Especially during COVID, production is hard.

[–]stolenshortsword 2 points3 points  (1 child)

welcome to the gaming community

[–]sebbeseb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think its because the virtual console on the wii had so much. people started to expect nintendo to do something similar for future consoles.

i think people are mad because nintendo has given us what we already had in the wii era and presents it as the biggest deal. Cant blame nintendo tho they have nothing else to release after covid delayed everything.

[–]RenegadeKitten404 1 point2 points  (2 children)

For people that bought the game, is it the remastered version of Mario 64 from when they launched on the DS or is it the original N64 version?

[–]Crazy-Shining -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not original but the virtual console one which means bowser is bi and no blj

[–]Fauxfish93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

original 🙂

[–]PurficPourBY 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I've got to say as much as i love all 3 games and am enjoying playing this. I just beat odyssey last week and oh boy was that a mistake before this. Odyssey is simply a master piece and these 3 games prove that statement true. If these 3 games controlled more like odyssey they would all be perfect.

[–]LocusStandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm starting with 64 which is primarily nostalgic but is sometimes really difficult especially due to camera angles but it's still really fun, in my mind I just think that it can only get better from here with sunshine and finally (very excited) for galaxy :)

[–]gongox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A lot of people commenting (not necessarily in this thread but in general) about this being a shameless cashgrab and not worth your money but I really see it as the complete opposite. I haven't played any of these in like at least a decade, I gave away my Wii and my copy of Sunshine and Super Mario 64 when I was younger. Considering Sunshine is like at $100 right now I think the opportunity is great. The games look fantastic! Even 64 I'm having a blast playing for the first time in years. Super satisfied.

Waiting on the announcment for Galaxy 2 though. Thats a huge downer imo.

[–]dustyqueef 4 points5 points  (1 child)

This game is fine, but they force you to invert the camera? Cant even play. been playing 20 years the same fuckin way now all of a sudden they switch it, without an option to change anything? ive already refunded it. I'll certainly buy it if they fix that, though.

[–]TheLeastCreative 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Its the worst in sunshine. Somehow the camera doesn't bother me much, I've played enough games in both modes to easily switch in my mind... but the FLUDD aiming is a real struggle

[–]Tyroneshoelacess 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Can we 16 star m64 on this? Anyone know what glitches work and dont work? Can't find too much about what you can and can't do in it

[–]NamaztakTheUndying 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No BLJ, so no less than 70 stars non-TAS. Bomb clip works, and cannonless works, I've done both of those myself (bomb clip for the first time ever :D).

Basically anything that doesn't require BLJ speed should still work. I saw Simpleflips doing MIPS clips, so those work but they're kinda pointless apart from looking cool, given no way to access the top floor early.

[–]doublediamondz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read BLJ doesn’t work so probably not

[–]SliceBread22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t like how Mario 64 doesn’t fit the screen, it’s like playing the DS version on a TV 😓

[–]canttsayso 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Galaxy is amazingly trippy I’m enjoying it so much! I can’t believe I never played it before

[–]nbowler13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the only one of the three I never got to finish, and it’s a trip playing again!! I’ve been loving this collection so far.

[–]aikoaiko 9 points10 points  (18 children)

Should I buy 3D or Odyssey? I have never really played Super Mario.

[–]autodidact89 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Depends on your taste. If you're into oldschool games and don't mind dated visuals and mechanics, start in order. If you prefer modern games, start with Odysey.

[–]aikoaiko 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I bought Odyssey and spent some time with it this weekend, it is fun (but I suck, I fell off a cliff like five times in a row).

[–]autodidact89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's cool. Sunshine is really hard, maybe save that one for when you're comfortable with precision platforming. I'm also new to Super Mario (not counting SNES from when i was a small kid) and having lots of fun with Galaxy.

[–]PoohTrailSnailCooch 2 points3 points  (1 child)

This is the perfect time for you to go in order then!

[–]aikoaiko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually a good point. But I did swap it out for Odyssey and I started last night. I like it so far!

[–]Superyoshers9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Buy Odyssey.

[–]Cotcho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’ll probably like 3D world when it comes out in Feb. a very solid Mario game. Personally I’ve been hanging out for 3D world since I got a switch two years ago. Cant wait to play it again (played on Wii U) and the new content it’s coming with.

[–]lordofreimes 10 points11 points  (2 children)

Finished odyssey a few months a go and just got 3D. If you have never played Super Mario before, Odyssey is the one to get. Without the nostalgia value, 3D's controls, camera and mechanics feel incredibly dated.

After playing 3D, I have a new appreciation for how incredible Odyssey is and cements its place as one of the best games of the decade

[–]aikoaiko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Just got back from Target, returned 3D and bought Odyssey. Gonna make a long weekend of it.

[–]Kgalicia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

https://youtu.be/fz5Y8e_0apQ Lol whenever someone says it's the best game of decade, show em this video. Lol

[–]canttsayso 1 point2 points  (7 children)

Tough one, get the odyssey if you want a big world with modern graphics. The 3D game is great I’m really enjoying Galaxy and I’m sure I’ll enjoy Sunshine, but the third game feels like a complete waste for me tbh

[–]aikoaiko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Just swapped them out at Target. Gonna be a weekend!

[–]MarmiteX1 0 points1 point  (5 children)

What 3rd game feels like a complete waste?

[–]canttsayso 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Sure Mario 64 “was” a great game but I can’t see myself enjoying it in 2020. The nostalgia is nice but that’s like.... it. Also, I can’t see someone who’s never played Mario enjoying this specific game

[–]ideamotor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought the same thing but once I played an hour or so, it became awesome. Just free to go find stars. Such a great sandbox. I mean the camera and controls are bad. But it’s just like driving a crappy car around some very relaxing scenery.

[–]freshbless 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think he is talking about Mario 64 which is one of the best Mario games ever made lol

[–]aikoaiko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it is three old games repackaged

Super Mario 64

Super Mario Sunshine

and Super Mario Galaxy

[–]OurLittlePepega 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Anyone notice when playing Galaxy in handheld mode the game sometimes makes Mario run in a circle for no reason?

[–]NoidedHedgehog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens docked too. I think its due to the controls shifting when the planets flip.

[–]Richi1717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Played on the pro controller and has happened to me at least a dozen times playing less than an hour. It’s not a game breaker like no inverted options is for the others :( but it is funny and annoying. Thought I somehow was doing something weird lol

[–]HangoverLink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

might be joycon drift?

[–]gurkenprinz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only played for 20ish minutes and it happened once.. thought it was odd.

[–]mortyshane420 2 points3 points  (7 children)

Anychance anyone knows if sunshine can be played with the pro controller. I really hope so my joy cons need to be replaced

[–]DatApe 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Yeah you can play with the pro controller.

Can't play with the gamecube controller though, which sucks balls.

[–]sonic_the_groundhog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can play on my switch game cube controller no problem

[–]ARA-FTW 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I thought you could but it doesn't use the analog joystick so you have to use Z/R for Flud?

Edit: Analog trigger, not joystick.

[–]DatApe 0 points1 point  (3 children)

The button binds are wrong on the cube controller and you can't rebind them.
So nope, can't use it.

[–]samus12345 0 points1 point  (2 children)

You can rebind them through the Switch menu, but you have to change over to it every time you want to play that specific game.

[–]DatApe 1 point2 points  (1 child)

You can't rebind The GameCube controllers binds from that menu. I tried it and the feature is locked.

[–]samus12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sigh, Nintendo doing Nintendo things again.

[–]MarmiteX1 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I received my copy today. Weekend is sorted for me now after I finish my chores etc. Which of the three should I play first? Which of the three are you going to play first?

[–]bambi_gitrekt 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I’d say start from the oldest to newest, but I started up sunshine first cuz I wanted to see how the spraying would work! ZR is too run n spray and R is to stand and spray in place.

[–]MarmiteX1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Forgot to mention, I have played some Mario 64 long time ago and Mario Galaxy on the Wii but I never played Sunshine.

[–]utupuv 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Received my copy in my pigeonhole at work today - time to relive some nostalgia in 3 hours time after I break from work!

[–]stolenshortsword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha wasting no time at all

[–]YamiPhoenix11 9 points10 points  (4 children)

I am having a real struggle with this camera in mario 64.

[–]Beardgang650 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same it seems super wonky. Getting use to it though

[–]quackerz 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Welcome to 1996

[–]YamiPhoenix11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have played the original but it was not inverted.

[–]MY5T3RY5M4RT13 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Has anyone noticed on Mario 64 that his texture go funny at long range

[–]Awesome2709 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah: that was done in the og version to save some draw distance, but the resolution was so blurry that you couldn't see it

[–]samppa_j 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Somethings very wrong with mario 64's sound mixing

[–]xgenmasta 8 points9 points  (2 children)

It seems like a lot of people see the collection as pretty disappointing, but not necessarily bad. The biggest plus to owning the collection is owning 3 (or 2, if you don't count Sunshine) of the best games ever made all in one cart for the Switch.

IMO, the collection seems to be a much easier way to get into these games for the very first time than shelling out the dough for an N64 and a Wii and buying the originals, which aren't super cheap.

As of this writing, each of the OG games costs this much on EBay:

Super Mario 64: $30-90 CAD Super Mario Sunshine: $30-100 CAD Super Mario Galaxy: $20-40 CAD

So, for $79.99 CAD for all these games, plus an upres and some subtle enhancements, this collection seems worth it for the noobs. I hope Amazon delivers my copy to my house later today.

[–]phazitor 4 points5 points  (1 child)

For the boobs, huh? I mean I play it for nostalgia, but that’s just me I guess. To each his own

[–]xgenmasta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, I meant to say "noobs." Thanks autocorrect, you've exposed me.

I edited the post, thanks bud.

[–]Mhmyup33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in NZ and my physical copy came this afternoon!! :)

[–]abcxyd 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Man, playing Sunshine again is making me so nostalgic for the Gamecube. It looks so good at a higher resolution!

[–]anibalmax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Amazing console with an amazing catalog

[–]josefsnowball 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Does anyone know what time I'll be able to play it tonight? I saw something that said 11 central but couldn't confirm

[–]Chris538 1 point2 points  (0 children)

came to ask the same thing. Was hoping we would be able to play a little before 12. oh well...we waited this long!

[–]ConfusedCartman 5 points6 points  (1 child)

In North America, it's a single time across the entire continent, with 12am EST being the baseline. So yeah, adjust based on your timezone compared to EST. Central will be able to play at 11, Mountain at 10, & Pacific at 9.

[–]Coca-Ena 2 points3 points  (0 children)

keeps checking the clock

[–]loogi-cool-joker 0 points1 point  (3 children)

What’s the 2 player for I haven’t played any of these games before

[–]Treholt 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Mario Galaxy I guess. I remember one could play Mario and the other control the pointer to pick up stars and shoot.

[–]bayer_aspirin 2 points3 points  (1 child)

2nd player could also “pause” enemies and certain panels.

[–]Lmb1011 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As the younger sibling I can confirm this.

In Galaxy 2 you could also collect coins. So I would always grab a coin and hold it so every time my sister got hit I could instant heal her. It was really useful in battle. I was the BEST second player 😆

[–]_Doolittle_ 4 points5 points  (4 children)

Do any Nintendo veterans expect that they'll eventually allow GameCube controller functionality?

[–]DatApe 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Maybe if we whine enough. I'd do that if it meant we could use the GameCube Controller.

[–]_Doolittle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plugged mine in today and it worked for some functionality. Doesn’t even seem like it would be much work on their part

[–]neoslith 3 points4 points  (1 child)

You can already plug in a GameCube controller if you have the adapter.

The Switch just reads it as a wired Pro Controller.

[–]OneEcchiBoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but the controls are a mess and locked at that.

[–]MonetaryMeerkat 6 points7 points  (6 children)

I received the game a day early. I have tried SM64 in handheld, and there's an odd delay i'm noticing in the controls. For example, occasionally if you turn Mario to run towards the camera, it takes a second to switch the analog stick from pushing forward moves mario towards the camera, to moving mario forward directionally. I hope that makes sense.

Edit: played more with Pro controller. Definitely has noticeable input lag which makes fine movements difficult.

[–]socialcreditbroker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The input lag is actually horrendous

[–]Awesome2709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really? I just played 64 in both modes to check and I didn't notice any

[–]xgenmasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting, since it contradicts reports by game journalists that Mario 64 doesn't have any noticable input latency. Several compared the controls to the Wii U VC Version, which apparently had a fairly noticeable amount of input lag

[–]PixelateVision 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I received mine today as well, and can confirm. There's definitely a slight delay between your input and Mario registering it in the game. It's only super noticeable when you're trying to move in tiny increments to try and line up with a sign/npc so you can talk to them.

[–]ideamotor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d like someone to compare with the original.

[–]PawneeYay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks.

[–]PeppeLePoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't the aggregate score just be the mean of the existing scores + a bump because the games are mobile? They didnt say they were changing any of the core experience in any of them

[–]Crownman8585 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Does anyone know if each game comes with multiple save slots?

[–]dirk2654 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got mine today, and they each have their original title and save screens, so yes they do!

[–]Oppai-no-uta 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Target came in clutch, my copy arrived at 12pm today!

[–]xDelicateTerror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine from bestbuy is arriving today, too!

[–]thefailbrosownu 9 points10 points  (4 children)

What is the the release time of the game? Is it released at midnight tonight?

[–]ConfusedCartman 4 points5 points  (1 child)

In North America, it's a single time across the entire continent, with 12am EST being the baseline. So adjust based on your timezone compared to EST. For example, I live in CA so it will unlock at 9pm.

Everywhere else, it's released at midnight local time. So it depends on which region's eShop you bought the game from.

[–]Thesilentstoner420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hoping to know this as well...

[–]BigSaucesRecipe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wondering this too, is it released at different times around the world or one time

[–]MyNameIsRobPaulson 20 points21 points  (2 children)

I honestly like that there is a un-remastered official version of SM64 out there with the original code (in HD). A remake would be cool to see - but that game is historic and it's cool to see it preserved officially. A graphical update, tbh, would not really change the game much at all.

[–]Yung2112 21 points22 points  (1 child)

Halo 1/2 remakes had this awesome feature where you could go back and foward between remake and original with the push of a button, that was so cool

[–]Rider434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was playing MCC recently and discovered that on accident lmao. I ended up playing I. The original graphics.

[–]kimbolll 37 points38 points  (16 children)

Fun facts about me and Super Mario 64:

  • It was the first video game I’d actually played with the objective of beating, and was actually good at.
  • 7 year old me played it for hours on end. I was obsessed.
  • I’d caught the rabbit and decided it would be a good idea to jump into a painting with him instead of doing the task he actually asks of you. He immediately disappeared and I scoured the castle trying to find him again. I eventually cried because I thought I broke the game.
  • After thinking I broke the game, I stopped playing for about a couple months. I got back into the game only to realized I forgot how to play. I cried to my mother because I was no longer a match for my former glory.
  • After realizing I now sucked at the game, I gave it up completely because 8 year old me couldn’t bear to live in the shadow of 7 and a half year old me. The game then collected dust as I drowned my sorrows with Tony Hawk Pro Skater.
  • It wasn’t until I was 14 that I picked it up again and finally beat the game with the help of a friend. I haven’t touched it since.

This rerelease is about to bring up some fucking feels I’m not sure I’m ready to face.

[–]SilverNightingale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loled at your tale.

Which rabbit? I only ever played the game at a friend's house.

[–]Gimmegimmegunshots 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Which rabbit are you talking about? The rabbit in the basement of the castle gives you a star as soon as you catch it.

[–]kimbolll 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Yes, the rabbit in the basement. My memory is a bit fuzzy so I forget what you have to do once you catch the rabbit to get the star, but I know for a fact you don’t get it right away. I definitely picked that rabbit up and jumped into a painting with it. I was very upset when he disappeared and didn’t come back for months.

[–]Gimmegimmegunshots 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Did you play it on the 3DS? The rabbits are different there.

On the N64 version it gives up a star the moment you catch it.

[–]kimbolll 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Nope, it was N64.

[–]Gimmegimmegunshots 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Then you're misremembering. You get the star as soon as you catch the rabbit. You can pick the rabbit up and carry it around, but there's nothing you need to do. So yeah you could have jumped into the painting with it, but you didn't miss anything.

You actually catch it twice. It reappears the second time after you come back with more stars, but it works the same way both times.

I've probably played through this game 15 times over the years, and I recently did a full playthrough when the PC port came out, so this is pretty fresh in my memory.

[–]ideamotor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He broke the game.

[–]FiIthy_Anarchist 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Pretty sure there's one out in the courtyard too

[–]_Auron_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, that's on the DS version.

[–]OctorokHero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have similar experiences with Super Mario Galaxy. I was about the same age as you when I first played it, and I was so bad I couldn't beat the tutorial mission. However, it later went on to become one of my favorite games of all time.

[–]DapDaGenius 2 points3 points  (2 children)

So why did the Rabbit disappear?

[–]OctorokHero 4 points5 points  (1 child)

He only appears as a bonus objective to get Stars. Once you catch him once, he doesn't show up afterwards until you get enough Stars to unlock the opportunity to catch him again, after which he never appears again.

[–]kimbolll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sounds right, because he did end up showing up again a while later.

[–]TSTUMPMAN 2 points3 points  (1 child)

You should document those feels and share them with everyone, so you're not alone and so others can live vicariously.

[–]kimbolll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll share all my thoughts and feelings with Reddit right after I talk about them with my therapist.

[–]Sprauket666 26 points27 points  (9 children)

I think this is a difficult game to judge because people's experiences are going to differ greatly. If you've never played any of these games before, it's a no-brainer purchase. It's a whole lot cheaper than tracking down all the original games and the systems needed to play them. (Yes, I know emulation is cheaper but most people aren't comfortable doing that)

On the other hand, if you've played these titles before and have access to the original games, the pack isn't worth much, aside from novelty and decent graphical upgrades.

And finally, if you're comfortable emulating your games and enhancing them yourself, then this pack is basically a 60 dollar downgrade.

Because Nintendo chose to release these games as is with basically no bonus content, it's more a question of value, not quality. I'd say they missed the mark with this one but I think they know exactly what they're doing.

[–]Platinumtide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never played any of these games except sunshine a little bit as a child. I spent hours doing absolutely nothing in that game and I loved it. Can’t wait to play all these games and relive my childhood.

[–]mninp 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Dude, like over 95% of people that play games don’t care to or know how to emulate anything. The hardcore emulation crowd is a huge minority. This game will sell like hotcakes.

[–]Sprauket666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, I 100% agree. I was talking about how the game does/doesn't appeal to different groups of people, not which group is most prominent. I've got all of the games, systems, and am familiar with emulation but I'm still getting 3D All-stars.

[–]Ellajt 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I’ve only played galaxy out of the 3 and I’m paying 60 for that alone! Massively regret selling my wii a few years back

[–]PadBunGuy 4 points5 points  (1 child)

For people who’ve never played them before it may be difficult to get into as the games and control scheme may feel archaic, particularly 64 and to a smaller extent Sunshine

[–]Duliss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doubt it. Me and a friend played the game for the firsg time 3 years ago (at 14 years old) and we both love 64. It's aged better than people give it credit for

[–]atstanley 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Don't forget that another great benefit of the Switch is that it brings portability. I would have a harder time justifying purchasing this for a traditional home consoler, but the convenience coupled with portability makes it an easy choice for me!

[–]Sprauket666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point, I didn't think of that one. Sometimes I forget I'm able to take the switch out of its dock lol.

[–]Think__McFly 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Gonna try to beat 64 before October, focus on Luigi's Mansion 3, then back to Sunshine!

[–]DrClutch117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great idea. Mansion 3 was really wonderful.

[–]PM_ME_GOOD_SONGS_PLS 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I am pumped to play these games tomorrow

[–]PadBunGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll be pulling my pump out of the closet tomorrow when I get off work to prepare myself to play this game

[–]Robtimus_prime89 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Some of the reviews seem to imply parts of Galaxy still use motion controls. Whilst my left joy con is out of action, I picked up a cheap (but officially licensed) controller - which has no motion controls. Would it still work/be remapped, or am I out of luck until the joy on comes back

Edit: so based on the responses, the answer is a resounding yes. Bloody drifting joycon- the camera would just move all on its own and the game would be unplayable. I’ve got a new stick coming tomorrow as well now which will hopefully fix the issue

You’re out of luck. You NEED motion controls to navigate menus and collect starbits etc. Could always play in handheld mode for sections that require it, but it’s handheld mode, plus while not every level needs motion controls, every time you want to select a level you need them.

[–]Robtimus_prime89 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Bah! It’s been so long since I played it I had forgotten about the menus. I was just thinking about a couple of the levels/stars (I think there was a surfing one?)

There's blue grappling stars throughout Galaxy that require motion controls sadly. You only need motion controls on the right joycon though afaik. If only you left one is missing those you're probably in luck.

Wish these got the crash bandicoot/Spyro remaster treatment

[–]Dadoosama 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's too bad I can't play this any other way with better graphics and more options. My oh my that is a shame.

[–]againstdoggospeech3 21 points22 points  (16 children)

Sorry I'm not saying the collection is absolute shit but how can you give a 10/10 for a lazy remaster not even supporting 16:9 ratio and 60 fps?

That's so biased you can't rely on reviewers like that.

[–]stolenshortsword 12 points13 points  (1 child)

there are two review styles for this game:

  1. people reviewing 64, Sunshine and Galaxy
  2. people reviewing Super Mario 3D All Stars

Some are doing the first - you can't deny that the games themselves are 9/10 - 10/10.

But as a collection? It's not great. If they upscaled 64 to 16:9 and threw in Galaxy 2 holy shit this game would be value, but otherwise its a bit lacking. Not as much as some seem to have a meltdown over though. I don't think people understand that three mario games for 60$ is super generous, especially since all of those titles hold up at 30 dollars at the minimum on ebay.

much as some seem to have a meltdown over though.

It's just disappointment because many people have been dreaming about remasters of those games.

You then read the headline that it's finally coming but then you learn that it's just a half-assed money grab. I can understand the dissappointment.

Plus their shady limited purchase, trying to pressure people into buying it.

Nintendo has gamers by the balls. They wonder why Nintendo doesn't expand the virtual console and then they go spend $60 on an emulated copy of Mario 64.

If 3D All Stars is a 10 then the original All Stars must be a 20 considering it actually updated all of the games' graphics and even included a previously unreleased game.

[–]Feregrin 0 points1 point  (11 children)

20 bucks for Mario 64 tho.

[–]OrnsteinBagels 0 points1 point  (10 children)

Still ridiculous considering it was $10 on the virtual console

[–]GByteM3 2 points3 points  (3 children)

It was also next to completely unplayable on the virtual console with the input lag

[–]OrnsteinBagels 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Are you referring to the Wii U VC? I’ve been playing the Wii version for years with no input lag.

[–]GByteM3 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah, the Wii U one is atrocious

[–]OrnsteinBagels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand how they mess something like that up lol. As if the Wii U didn’t have enough issues. Wii VC was glorious!

[–]Feregrin 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Yeah I get it. But I don't mind, as many others, since we're finally having access to'em on Switch.

[–]SammyDeer 3 points4 points  (4 children)

To me it seems more like

10 for 64

20 for Sunshine

30 for Galaxy

[–]poontango 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Galaxy was $10 on the Nvidia Shield, and it was an actual remaster and not just a port. So really you are paying $40 for sunshine...

[–]SammyDeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know that. I've admittedly never seen anything in regards to pricing on that service. Is it even a thing outside of China?

[–]Feregrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a solid way to look at it.

[–]Macadamic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with that. I’ve never played Sunshine or Galaxy, so this collection seems worth the price for me.

[–]NoahParker12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Its almost like they want money for doing nothing, but we're the assholes for pointing it out.

[–]SeeYouSpaceCowboy0 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I don’t understand why Nintendo won’t release the DS Remaster/Expansion if M64 on switch. A lot of people loved that version but the biggest complaint is about the lack of joystick controls, and a switch port could fix that.

[–]Johnnythicc 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Because it’s worse

Edit: in all seriousness it would take a lot of time and effort to port a DS game to a home console, and Nintendo likely doesn’t think it’s worth it

[–]Tylerdurden516 25 points26 points  (4 children)

Im excited to replay these games but it doesnt make any sense that Nintendo wouldn't remaster mario 64. Its an iconic game. Every other game dev is keeping their classics updated, and Nintendo has arguably the greatest first party IP in the industry which makes it all the more unexcusable.
