I dont like the HDR washout display windows 10.

Can anyone confirm if Rtx 3080 hardware will fix the HDR washout display in windows 10?

Im using TCL TV 6 series which is has a great HDR in ps4 but sucks on PC.

[–]scnightblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone have OC specs for the EVGA XC3? This is my first time overclocking my hardware and I'm trying to get the biggest bang for my buck! I can only find OC info on the FTW3, and that has 3x6 pins for power. Mine only has 2. Thanks!

[–]SephV 0 points1 point  (1 child)

hello all of you, are you guys buying the 30 series? can i just buy your used video card? even the cheapest one please. I badly need it and can't afford.

[–]lll13lll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has anyone benchmarked the 3080 at 8k? Would be imteresting to see how it compares next to the 3090

[–]cappeesh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am one step from pre-ordering one of rtx3080. My two top choices are Asus TUF and Evga XC3. I know Asus is great card for the money, but I will put waterblock on it. That's why I'm looking at Evga too (because of warranty). Is Evga pcb much different from Asus? Watched MSI Gaming X Trio teardown and guy said something that it's not best PCB, but can't find anything on Evga.

[–]SirDragix 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Can I run It with a 750w Gold Psu? My CPU Is a 3700x

[–]Tommy7373 1 point2 points  (2 children)

yes you should be fine.

[–]spideydaze18 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How about 700watts PSU bronze 80+ with 3700x dual fan noctua air cooler?

[–]Tommy7373 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yeah pretty much anything above 650 should be fine if it's a decent power supply. 80+ bronze isn't particularly great but unless you're overclocking the CPU a lot there shouldn't be an issue

watch this if you want: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bdohv96uGLw

[–]VU22 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Whats the difference on OC models? Are they overclockable or default OC'd? I see there is not much difference on OCed results so should I go with non-OC versions? Also I saw that 3080 doesnt get throttle in 4K gaming but it gets throttle on lower resolutions somehow (according to tomshardware), would 4K 60fps be better than 1440p-144Hz for 27-28inch monitors, anyone tried them?

[–]TurbulentEmployer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah agree with the other guy. I played rdr2 in 1440p on a 27” and it was breathtaking. 4K on a 65” oled c9 looks great too. I’m going to go for 60fps 4K next gen but if you’re on a smaller device than a big hdtv go 1440p

[–]YoYoNinjaBoy 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I would highly advise high refresh rate as a priority unless you play only single player adventure kinda games with a controller Overclocked models are just guaranteed to run at the higher frequency they come at. Its entirely possible that a non oc card can oc faster than a oc card but also possible they won't be able to reach the speed of the oc card

[–]VU22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, ordered my hp omen 27i yesterday. Same LG nanoips panel. I'll wait for tuf cards I guess, still no stock.

[–]WildOink 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Who was able to get their hand a 3080 today? I went to Memory Express and Bestbuy at 11 AM today(store hours adjusted due to COVID-19). And came home empty-handed Q __ Q

[–]RULivengood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently the best bet to get one is at a microcenter. A few reviewers said that most people that told them that they got one (in the US that is) got them from there.

[–]DirtyAffairs 0 points1 point  (1 child)

[–]scripzero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find it hilarious that stockx is selling 3080s and that the highest bid on the Fe is 1200

[–]Trustthefundamentals -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

ArtesianBuilds has 3080's, accepting orders, and building custom PC's on a first-come, first-serve basis. They're $805 per card, which is a slight mark-up, but not nearly the $1,200+ horrible listings on eBay. Plus, the price is essentially factored into the labor of building the PC for you, and they build it live on stream: https://twitter.com/ArtesianBuilds/status/1306627915774271488

[–]stampede84 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Can this two polish reviews into written reviews ?

[–]benclen623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are quick news pieces, not reviews.

[–]cc0537 -1 points0 points  (4 children)

OC 2080 TI vs OC 3080 is a 20% perf diff in 4K. Raytracing perf isn't there. Where is the 3090? The 3080 is unimpressive an upgrade for me.

[–]GeneticsGuy 2 points3 points  (3 children)

So a $700 card getting 20% more performance over a card that was $1200+ at most places is not worth it? I don't get it.

Now, I will say you might have a point in that if you already have a 2080 Ti, you probably don't really need to upgrade... but you are gonna catch flack by calling the 3080 an "unimpressive" upgrade.

[–]cc0537 -1 points0 points  (2 children)

2080 TI per isn't $1200 anymore, it's $500. A $700 FE card with 10GB VRAM is not worth it for a 3080.

Not worried about flak. Most of the same people were stupid enough to buy Fermi and Bulldozer.

[–]Cynical_Cyanide 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Bulldozer sure, but you're off your tree if you think Fermi was a bad gen. The perf was great and the prices reasonable enough that most cards e.g. the 460 1gb were the best value for their price point. And at the top end it had the performance crown. All with tdp that would be considered modest today... It's just that the reference and crappier custom coolers couldn't handle them.

[–]cc0537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All with tdp that would be considered modest today

VEGA is considered modest compared to Ampere by similar logic. We both know that's not the case. Fermi had power consumption problems and had problems as a result. So did VEGA. So does Ampere:

Do any of the custom/aib cards have a larger voltage limit for better OC headroom than the FE?

[–]Puget-WilliamPuget Systems 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We couldn't publish till today, thanks to the way NVIDIA did their embargoes this time around, but here is a roundup of the benchmark testing & multiple articles we have put out at Puget Systems: https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/NVIDIA-GeForce-RTX-3080-10GB-Review-Roundup-1879/

We were testing with the Gigabyte GeForce RTX™ 3080 GAMING OC 10G, but from what I have seen & read performance across most of the RTX 3080 variants should be almost identical: https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N3080GAMING-OC-10GD#kf

[–]BroderLund 6 points7 points  (2 children)

[–]Puget-WilliamPuget Systems 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Thank you for linking to those! I didn't see this till after I had already posted a link elsewhere on this thread to our roundup, which consolidates a lot of that into one place for easier viewing :)

[–]tonyedit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks guys. Love my games but I'm a professional video editor, recently upgraded home rig to a 5700xt (which works with PPro very well actually) but I'm a sucker for marketing. Been looking forward to this review.

[–]ryzenreader 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Can r5 2600 or 3600 control 3070 ?

[–]sassydodo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to GN for 4k gaming with rtx 3000 cpu doesn't mean that much

[–]kouroskid 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Should I even line up in front of micro-center for the 3090 what time do you think I should based on what I saw today it looks like a complete 14 hours before the store opens which is ridiculous

[–]breakingbroken 0 points1 point  (3 children)

My microcenter opened at 10am and they were basically all sold out by the time I got in my car to drive over lol.

[–]kouroskid 0 points1 point  (2 children)

You think I should wait over night I didn’t even bother to go today my friend that works at the micro center by me said they had about 11 in stock and people were lining up for it the night before at 10pm

[–]breakingbroken 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Are they supposed to have more stock tomorrow? I assumed the initial launch amount today would be all they had for awhile

[–]RoughTurnip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stock isn't going to be a lot. I think brick and mortar is getting less. I think the store with the most had 80. Some had as little as 2.

[–]yasmani2018 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NVIDIA totally asked AMD for advice on how to have the crappiest launch of all times

[–]krynnul 7 points8 points  (16 children)

NVIDIA badly mismanaged this launch. Putting aside the nonsense on their own shop, all the stores in the area are already sold out or taking "in store" back orders only. I had hyped myself up to buy one of these cards and now I'm rather done with it. Will kick the can down into next calendar year.

[–]avatarreb 7 points8 points  (14 children)

It actually went perfectly according to the plan. Set an unrealistic low price for purposes of reviews and buzz. Make stock available at that price mostly unavailable. AIBs show up weeks later with much higher-priced versions with cheaper-to-make coolers (than FE version). They get their profit margins with the perception that it's a value. Checkmate.

[–]RetiredPandaMurderer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We only have AIBs available in Denmark but the prices look very reasonable so far.

[–]Sketch_77 0 points1 point  (11 children)

I actually got a 3080 Ftw3 for less than what an fe card was going for here in Aus

[–]Xurbax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't believe you. Those are officially delayed. Unless you just mean someone let you preorder one.

[–]xLegend_289 0 points1 point  (5 children)

What, where? PLE is the only place selling any 3080 for less than 1380 bucks and oddly enough it's an EVGA (non) OC variant. I doubt the rest of the cards are a 210+ dollar difference in performance.

[–]Sketch_77 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Ple had the cheapest cards I think, I was so worried it was a mistake haha

[–]xLegend_289 0 points1 point  (3 children)

The FTW3 is more than the FE even at PLE though. Still no where near as expensive as other stores but just saying. That's what my initial "what how" was regarding.

[–]Sketch_77 0 points1 point  (2 children)

My apologies I thought the fe was a little more expensive than it is, still a killer price though compared to most places

[–]Cynical_Cyanide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you got manipulated by the very tactic that was explained to you, hook line and sinker.

[–]xLegend_289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha it sure is. Which one did you end up getting and why? The XC3 or the FTW (ultra or not too)?

[–]NothingSuss1 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I am also in Aus. If you don't mind me asking, where did you purchase the FTW3?

I am definitely thinking of trying to snag one eventually, my first time buying an EVGA card! Is there different variations of the FTW3? I must be confused because I thought I read they would be releasing it a little later on, like the STRIX.

[–]Sketch_77 1 point2 points  (1 child)

There's a couple Evga cards I believe just have a look on Ple they seem to have the cheapest Evga cards

[–]NothingSuss1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top bloke, thanks for that.

Hope you enjoy your new GPU mate!

[–]krynnul -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh, fully agree from a corporate perspective they are gangbusters! The whole customer retention and velocity of upgrades may go down a well though. Seriously interested in what team red has coming up.

[–]JuanElMinero 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Hey /u/nekrosmas. Can't reply to the stickied comment, so I'll try here.

Could you still add the AIB review links and others (like the GN teardown), for completeness sake? Would be happy to help out collecting some of them, just in case.

Just an example, so we have the pieces all lined up:

Hardware unboxed FE - ASUS TUF 3080 - etc.

It's probably a lot to ask for a monstrous thread such as this, but a cleanup of all the useless comments would be great. Discussion in this post looks more like /r/buildapc than anything this sub is supposed to be. Most are talking about how to get it and if they need it, comparably little discussion about the cards/reviews themselves.

[–]XxlapeztexX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m upset, $1500 on eBay is disrespect....

So offended that I had to double check,

Imma always take the money over RTX

That’s why they need me out the way, what do you expect?

[–]Davis1sw 10 points11 points  (8 children)

0/10 for Nvidia. Terrible capacity planning given the high demand they should have been aware of. Still says notify me on one area and sold out in the other. Never received an email specifically saying it would notify us. They did not input a check mark for bots upon purchases to weed them out. I work in supply chain and this would be very unacceptable on all levels. If you were concerned with websites being overloaded you should have staggered the times to purchase. Shame on you Nvidia

[–]Ok-Isopod1893 10 points11 points  (7 children)

It was entirely intentional

[–]Davis1sw -1 points0 points  (6 children)

Only to lose more customers that will now purchase the Big Navi because of their inability to forecast their demand / customer base. Quite a large base that are disappointed with Nvidia. They should be coming out with an apology with how bad their release was.

[–]Cynical_Cyanide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You overestimate the average consumer. They'll rage online to be sure, but if forgetting all of that the moment they get an opportunity to hand over a thousand bucks is just another part of the cost .... They'll do so happily to get their toy.

[–]Rhymelikedocsuess 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'd be shocked if big navi rivaled anything other than the 3070. AMD has been comfortably sitting in the value/budget card niche for years, they don't **need** to compete with Nvidia to get their customer base. In addition, AMD basically owns the Console space with the exclusion of the Nintendo Switch, which is even more money in their pocket.

[–]TheMonkeyPickler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AMD took a loss on every single rdna1 card because they had to cut prices when nvidia dropped the super series. Radeon hasnt been profitable in a long long time

[–]Bropabos1 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Hopefully AMD can meet demand

[–]TheMonkeyPickler 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Knowing AMD that will not happen.

[–]Bropabos1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we're boned. Why launch something that you don't have? It's ridiculous

[–]BrightCandle 6 points7 points  (5 children)

I think Nvidia may have missed the irony in sending out their stock availability notice email an hour and 4 minutes after launch time pointing to the web page that shows their card as out of stock!

[–]MasterOfTheChickens 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I got it at 9:11 AM on the dot. I feel like that summarizes the launch perfectly, and now I'm glad I took off a bit of next week for the 3090 so I can engage my fellow man in mortal combat outside Micro Center for a piece of silicon...

[–]BrightCandle 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Well if its anything like the 3080 launch any stock they will receive is reserved already and you will be sent home after sitting in a queue all night. Paper launches are like that, for show only so they can get pictures of queues and claim it was a big sellout when the reality was they had 5 to sell worldwide.

[–]MasterOfTheChickens 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Apparently the Dallas MC had a poster up already for the 3080's about being sold out. I know a few of the guys semi-well who work there so I'm hoping I'll be able to get enough information to make a good decision. The 3950x launch was a lot of fun and there was plenty to go around for people who arrived up to 3 hours or so in advance-- this launch (at least for the 3080) is looking a lot more concerning.

E: The poster is concerning b/c they don't open until... 10:00 AM. Lol.

[–]BrightCandle 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I never managed to get a 3900X. I preordered but the site I bought from had credit card processing issues which I received notice of an hour later in an email, by which point the wait was months. I tried for a bit to buy one and in the end, bought a 9900k that was available immediately 3 weeks later. AMD CPU stock was very poor for a long time, nearly 6 months of out of stock/minimal stock.

[–]MasterOfTheChickens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, they had about 16 of the 3950x (for reference, I was #7 and was there 4 hours in advance) on hand and handed out vouchers for it. Enjoyed chatting with the other souls there and everyone was a good sport, even those who barely missed the cut-off. I have a feeling the 3090 is going to be more of a blood bath...

[–]BobFiggins 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Since I have nothing better to do, I made a short clip of my experience at 6am.

I didn't get one :(

[–]SnowCrow2888 1 point2 points  (2 children)

5 bucks says that it will be easier to buy the 3090 since its there most expensive card

[–]Hamakua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only will it be easier to buy but it will help significantly with the scalpers by capping the upper-bound price which reduces the potential profit margins of the scalpers. This will have a subtle effect in removing some, not all, but some scalpers from the game while also adding to/providing additional supply to the 3080 pool. This will then have further market pressure to take the FOMO power away from the scalpers further reducing demand knocking more out. - which feeds in, knock more out, etc. etc. until 3080 might be hard to get, but not impossible. (thinking 980ti launch difficulty instead of impossible). I'm getting a 3080, but am in no rush to do so. I can "manage" with what I have until I can get it for MSRP + standard AIB bells and whistles markup.

"just be a little patient" is trite and often unsympathetic advice - but currently it's the best you can employ right now.

[–]vietNAMwasHELL 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Did anyone even see a single card on amazon go live yet?

[–]monicacobblestone 3 points4 points  (5 children)

Dang, without a bot you legitimately do not stand a chance on launch days anymore. When did it get this bad??!

[–]pointer_to_null 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Bots or paper launch?

This was worse than the PS5 frenzy yesterday. At least I know plenty of people who got their preorder.

No one (from what I can see) on /r/nvidia or on the discord reported snagging an FE card.

Turing had a much smoother launch than this. Nvidia really lost a lot of goodwill here, and makes me consider waiting another month for the RX6000 to launch. Or at least wait to see if there's any truth to those 3080 20GB rumors.

[–]monicacobblestone 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I’m still interested in the 3090, but after this shit show I don’t even know if I want to give Nvidia a dime. I’m looking into a bot because this is ridiculous.

[–]Hamakua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too am considering looking into bots because if you break it down it provides a service that the vendors should already be supplying - something of a pre-order lottery system. If everyone uses bots then the end-result is the same - lottery (single purchase) determined by your given latency/ping to the transaction server. It even has something of a "fairness" distribution aspect to it if different vendors are situated in different places geographically.

Amazon satellite distribution centers/servers. B&H in NY, New Egg and EVGA in CA, BEst buy wherever they do their deeds... etc. etc. The respective EU, Austrailia, SA, and Oceanic markets also.

Further potential fixing of the issue like what New Egg did - stagger lot releases - or potentially randomize their next listing (although that biases towards bots).

If they really wanted to get clever, places like Amazon and New Egg could do analytics on who is a "legit" customer vs. a scalper vs. a system builder - pretty easy to do.

[–]BrightCandle 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Well you likely wont have much choice. With the news of serious availability issues you might find that the 3080 doesn't actually come back in stock before the 6000 series gets announced in a little over a months time.

[–]pointer_to_null 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be right, hence why I've resigned myself to waiting. If supply gets sorted out before then, great. If not, well, my 1080Ti still runs fine.

[–]Wallie2277 -2 points-1 points  (3 children)

I feel so bad for anyone who sold their gpu to get the rtx 3080

[–]xLegend_289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sold my 2070s and grabbed a cheap 750 ti thinking I'll be using it for a very short period. Apparently not.

[–]unknown_nut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is why everybody should keep a spare gpu alongside a main gpu. I'm keeping my 980 ti when i upgrade.

[–]avatarreb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the 20 series aftermarket will start selling for more now.

[–]primeshooter 0 points1 point  (6 children)

i got the asus tuf, should I be happy? it's a total unknown, performance wise

[–]Kittelsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the Rog Strix, expecting it to be delivered to the store romorrow and then a few more days in transit apparently. I can't find a single review of it though.

[–]ajtioch 6 points7 points  (2 children)

[–]zackline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the TUF OC, the model name differs by only one letter. Didn't see a review about the regular TUF yet.

[–]primeshooter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huge thanks for the link, I'll check it.

[–]PineBark843 2 points3 points  (1 child)

That's awesome man, congrats

I don't know how you managed to actually get one though.

[–]primeshooter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks dude, it's was totally random, I went on Amazon uk, searched for 3080, it came up, funny enough, I was able to order it, which I did, still no shipping date though.

[–]Any_Philosopher758 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Will Best Buy have some in stores when they open? wonder if there is a line outside of the store possibly despite COVID 19.

[–]cranmous 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Went to my local Best Buy, they say no retail stock available due to COVID. Our only luck is bestbuy.com

[–]Any_Philosopher758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I stopped at Best Buy as well and got the same response. :(

[–]among_bridge_four 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man. All of these AIB 3080's have.... interesting aesthetics...

[–]Vulsker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still refreshing Amazon...nothing yet

[–]Matheweh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Want from notify me to sold out in seconds, never did I see add to cart, did anybody got their hands on multiple and is willing to sell to retake price?

[–]camjordan13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whelp, guess I'm sitting on my 680 until they get more in stock next year.

[–]SnowCrow2888 4 points5 points  (6 children)

so it sold out in under 10 seconds based off of 3 sites

[–]kouroskid 1 point2 points  (5 children)

NVIDIA website still says notify me but all the other sites Iv checked say sold out

[–]kouroskid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At like 8:30 am I had an msi one in my cart and it said it was on back order I took it out and waited for the release so dumb

[–]MADMAC_simracing 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Same, I've been refreshing them every second. Didn't even see a buy button on best buy.. just switched to sold out randomly...

[–]camjordan13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to get an evga card in the cart but they removed it before I could complete purchase.

[–]Maysock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw "add to cart" for approximately half a second on bestbuy for the zotac, then it disappeared.

[–]kouroskid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeahh me to same with amazon and was barley able to get into new eggs and when I did all sold out

[–]avboden 2 points3 points  (2 children)

AIB reviews. Well for the XC3 EVGA

Tl;DW performance is basically the same as they all boost with nvidia boost 3.0 roughly the same but the AIB cards are significantly quieter when you pump up the fan curves

[–]among_bridge_four -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Yet it costs 50$ more for the same performance.

[–]avboden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

or rather, $50 more for quieter performance on custom fan curves to keep it cooler than the stock curve

[–]Princep_Makia1 5 points6 points  (3 children)

companies have got to do something about this horse shit. the average person has zero hope of getting anything online anymore.

[–]zackline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, launch with more stock that is.

[–]djphan5252 2 points3 points  (1 child)

judging by how many people were trying ... i don't think it was just the bots...

[–]Rhymelikedocsuess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously this lol, the launch thread has 30k comments alone

It was understocked, even more so than the PS5, but people other than scalpers did get the card. They're just lucky.

[–]SnowCrow2888 2 points3 points  (10 children)

i refreshed Nvidia page nonstop and its sold out lol

[–]Dasbeerboots 1 point2 points  (3 children)

It doesn't even say sold out. Just says 'Notify me'.

[–]lt_bgg 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Says out of stock for me. It changed right at 6am.

[–]Mazetron 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Never changed from “Notify Me” for me.

Also never got an email from when I hit “Notify Me” weeks earlier.

[–]alpacadaver[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then it's probably not available in your region maybe? My region is not supplied and that's the same notify button situation here and no notification.

[–]skellman 1 point2 points  (2 children)

It says that? I’ve been refreshing 3 browsers and still says notify me

[–]lt_bgg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the 3080? Has said out of stock since pretty much exactly 6am.

[–]camjordan13 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Guess I'm using my 680 for a few more months, there's gonna be a lot of people trying to resell them online but fuck em.

[–]SnowCrow2888 1 point2 points  (1 child)

fuck those people who i know are going to sell it for 1500-2000

[–]Princep_Makia1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

need a god damn crusade against scalpers. or robin hood at the very least.

[–]SnowCrow2888 1 point2 points  (5 children)

of course the site is down

[–]DremLanz4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep evga is also down

[–]Any_Philosopher758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep Newegg and BestBuy both went down right at 6 am. I kept reloading BestBuy and it either said coming soon or out of stock until I wasn't able to visit the page at all. Couldnt get on Neweggs site at all.

[–]lt_bgg 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Out of stock everywhere instantly.

[–]SnowCrow2888 1 point2 points  (1 child)

wow amazing i knew this would happen clowns probably don't even have the proper setup for it

[–]Any_Philosopher758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, sites probably got attacked, showing different pages to everyone while they ordered everything up using different names, accounts, etc. Retailers honestly don't care as long as they sell the product.

[–]jhetnah 2 points3 points  (12 children)

oh boi I'm just refreshing my email right now so I can snag myself a pre-order. Hope I make it

[–]FUTUREEE87 0 points1 point  (4 children)

What could go wrong with a 620w seasonic bronze Psu? Got 3600 CPU, is it risky?

[–]lifedit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be fine as long as you're not running crazy amounts of disks or other devices.

I've seen a couple of reviews that have shown total system draw of around 550W, and that's with power hungry CPUs and the 3080 going through a torture test.

[–]Boyinboots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rtx 3080 review from Dave Lee mentions that the card has issues with his 600wt PSU. Fyi

[–]Mathematical_Potato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're looking at a 3080? From the reviews it seems like it tips out around 350W. The rest of your system with a 3600 shouldn't be drawing more than say 150W maxed out, unless you have a ton of hard drives you didn't mention. That's around what my 3700x system draws excluding my GPU. Those combined are 500W. You'd still theoretically have an extra 120W to play with.

The optimal point of the efficiency curve is typically around 2/3 of the max power rating of you PSU. Being that you're on a bronze rated PSU I'm guessing efficiency isn't at the top of your priority list.

Honestly it's probably not worth upgrading as long as your psu has the connectors required. Your PSU should be able to drive a 3600/3080 system no problem.

[–]Combosingelnation -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you want to add GPU as well? :)

[–]tripbin 0 points1 point  (4 children)

If I play exclusively in 4k should my old i7-7700k still do the job If I get a 3080? I shouldn't get it since my 1080ti still does well but I want it bad but dont want to also drop the money updating my CPU which also means updating my motherboard and my dumbass spent $500 on my motherboard when the 1080ti came out.

[–]TCE_Guzzler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easily lol, the 7700k still super fast. Besides, at 4k your CPU matters significantly less than at other resolutions.

[–]VagSmoothie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you're really dying to get the 3080...

Start with the GPU see how it performs in your system with the 7700. Best way is to check if your GPU isn't hitting 100% utilization in games and your CPU is near maxed out.
Then you know if you need to update the CPU + MoBo

[–]elimi 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Check hardware Canucks review

[–]Kittelsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, their exact question in that video. Pretty much answers it

[–]idbray79 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I just got one. I made it fit in my 1997 Compaq and it no works. Latvia 🇱🇻 #1

[–]slurpdawg1 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Microcenter in Tustin, CA has 85 cards available and there is about 150 people camping in front of the store and parking lot. Cards that are going to be available are: EVGA, Gigabyte, MSI and Zotac models. It might be more than 85 cards available if a new shipment comes in in the morning.

Pictures of the line and roll call at 2AM:

[–]Amerallis 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Its not that serious, people are treating video cards like limited edition collectibles. Willing to bet half are eBay scalpers.

[–]slurpdawg1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree on that half of them are going to resell.

[–]Flaezh 10 points11 points  (6 children)

When Founder's Edition is sold out, will it come back in stock or is it just the one batch? Really wanna wait for AIB reviews and maybe even 3070/RDNA2 but right now it sounds like FE is not only the cheapest 3080, but may also have one of the best coolers.

[–]Makorot 4 points5 points  (5 children)

It will come back, question is when though.

[–]sagaxwiki 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Based off Turing, widespread availability is probably going to be in about a quarter from now. Of course, since Nvidia is using Samsung instead of TSMC, there is a chance they'll have a lot more availability this time though.

[–]Makorot 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Well yeah, but again it might be limited due to Corona sooo I guess we'll just see in an hour

[–]robhaswell 1 point2 points  (2 children)

It's been 6 months, I don't think "limited due to Corona" is going to wash much longer. Especially in a fab which is a clean room environment.

[–]Makorot -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Corona is not gone though?

[–]robhaswell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No but supply chains have had time to adapt.

[–]BadmanBarista 6 points7 points  (2 children)

So the general theme seems to be that the FE cards are limited overclockers due to the power limit. Will watercooling have any effect on this? I've always been of the understanding that FE cards were better for watercooling because they were better binned for the price. Is this still the case?

[–]avboden 3 points4 points  (1 child)

The weird layout of the FE isn’t super conducive for water cooling this time, I mean people will do it and water blocks will be made but the power thing isn’t cooler related it seems so those wanting to water cool should probably go AIB

[–]BadmanBarista 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'm waiting on Zen 3 anyway so I guess I can skip the initial panic buying and wait for round 2 when there's more information on AIB's.

[–]exsaboy 11 points12 points  (1 child)

So for playing at 3440x1440 100hz should be enough for at least 4 or 5 years. That's enough for me.

[–]A-T 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And with DLSS 5 we can just upscale the game from 12x12 pixels

[–]freework 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Does anybody know what time these will go on sale tomorrow? I want to get one, but I know if I'm too slow, I'm going to have to do without. I built my system last July, but didn't buy a video card because I wanted to wait for the new cards to come out. I think it really sucks that they didn't have some kind of pre-order system set up.

[–]jaju123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2pm bst

[–]HazzyDevil 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s crazy to see how the 3080 is actually getting partially bottlenecked by high end cpu’s at 1440p. I say partially since another factor is how the SM’s are better utilised at 4K hence the biggest performance difference at 4K

[–]Wilson_loop 7 points8 points  (5 children)

Does anybody know how well the 3080 will improve VR performance over the 2060?

[–]Hendeith 7 points8 points  (4 children)

Highend headsets have resolution close to 4k (total, not per eye). Go check 2060 in 4k and then 3080 in 4k.

[–]AFlawedFraud -1 points0 points  (2 children)

How do you get the total, if its 1440x1600 per eye what's the total?

[–]purrplebread 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Just count the pixels. 4k is 3840x2160 = 8,294,400 pixels, your example is 1440x1600x2 = 4,608,000.

[–]zackline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding rendering another view angle to the second screen is cheaper, so the math probably won't add up.
