In 2018, Riot introduced franchising to the LCS and promised it would bring more stability by increasing salaries, forming a better amateur scene, and increasing investments via sponsorships. 5 years later, the amateur scene is dead, the region is filled with imports, and teams are looking to leave. by DPlusShoeMaker in leagueoflegends

[–]gom99 76 points77 points  (0 children)

This is more an issue that LOL is shrinking in NA and has little to do with franchising vs relagstions. Riot also failed to properly monetize the league from a sponsorship prespective when viewership was growing and all the teams suffer because of it.

Riot also failed because they didn't treat the league as a proper business and set up ways for their teams to have an income stream. Where are the team merchandising digital in game assets?

Why is Morgana so bad? by BlaxicanX in leagueoflegends

[–]GD_Insomniac 423 points424 points  (0 children)

I play Morg (occasionally) in high diamond, so here's my take.

The largest problem is the proliferation of anti-CC. Spell block like Samira and Yasuo, spell removal from Cleanse and Mikael's, and spell avoidance via Ghost/Galeforce and half the ADC's having built in dashes. Morg functions a lot like Blitzcrank where you use your positioning to control lane via threat of binding, but almost zero ADCs are ever truly vulnerable until they blow an important CD. When you get to the edge of Masters, it's almost impossible to land a bind without a vision trap or Flashing.

Speaking of vision, Morg lost one of her most powerful advantages because of Glacial Augment. There isn't a better option for her in lane or fights, but Aery and Comet both make W one of the best scouting tools in the game, since it covers a wide area with high range. The blue tree keystones are all tied to spell spam and AP ratios, which locks support Morg out of choosing them.

Black Shield is still an S+ tier basic ability, but the cooldown at rank 1 is too long. If you block a spell with Black Shield, there is a 100% chance it will be up before you can shield again, no matter what spell, so enemies always have a window against Morg. This makes sense for lower levels of play where Morg can be quite oppressive, but it cripples her in high level lane where CDs are tracked. She should at least be able to block every Blitz hook.

Finally, and this is the most critical reason Morg is bad at high level, Riot has spent over half a decade reducing her ratios to try and keep her out of mid lane, even though it's her natural role. Morg is a semi-carry, not a support, but she's been banned from scaling because apparently pressing W on the wave was "uninteractive." Bitch tell me how Naut mid is interactive? Or Annie? Morg W needs to be placed literally pixel perfect to hit all 6 minions if they cooperate and line up the way they should, and in the meantime she can't be aggressive or follow roams and loses in pressure to mids who clear faster.

And yet, with all these natural disadvantages, Riot has taken away literally almost a full 1.0 AP ratio from her kit. Q and E used to be 1.0, W used to be nearly 2.0, R used to be 1.5. Modern Morgana is nowhere near her old strength, and still has to fight champions with all the tools they need to outplay her at every turn.

You’re missing the EG-TSM drama that had already happened. EG was going to sign Lost. TSM needed an adc for 2021. They gave DL the option, do you want to play with the team or not (irregardless of support because it was uncertain). DL said no. Then TSM in the last minute signed Lost as adc, taking him away from starting for EG. Several weeks later, TSM signed SA. Dl then wanted to join the team after they had already moved on and he said no.

Guilty feeling got no rhythm 😡😡😡

Chovy says C9 ENEMES approached him after GEN vs C9 results: "EMENES wanted to learn which areas he's lacking as a player, as well as how he could become better as a player. So he came over to ask me questions..." Describes what kind of advice he gave to EMENES by corylulu in leagueoflegends

Hopefully C9 and other NA teams pick up that what's lacking is habits and discipline

Have to stick up for C9 here. C9 has clearly been trying really hard to be genuinely good for a while, and given their track record, maybe since the beginning. I'm sure they pay well but I doubt players go to C9 for the pay. Players go to C9 to win. Even during seasons where they don't win, C9 is far more often than not the #2 seed. And if they're not the #2 seed, they're top 4, and that's pretty rare. Looking at other orgs that have more than one trophy (TSM, CLG, TL) - literally none of them are anywhere remotely as consistent as C9 is whether that's domestically or internationally. C9 is legitimately always a top dog in NA and not a single other org gets anywhere close to being able to say the same. They all have plenty of super shitty seasons. C9 has the "gauntlet" season, at absolute worst.

C9 isn't the team that needs to pick up what's lacking. Every player on the team, or that has been on the team in recent history, has clearly strived to improve and do better split after split. At a fundamental level, C9 players are extremely solid. The org wouldn't be so successful otherwise. Many of their academy players all go on to have successful careers after stomping amateur repeatedly. Personally, I think the only reason C9 hasn't done better internationally is because they simply don't get solid practice domestically. You can't beat teams in different regions if the region you're in is dogshit. There's literally no good practice, it's tough to blame C9 for that.

This isn't a moment where people should be pointing at C9 and going "hopefully you get better habits and discipline" - C9 has always had this. This should be a moment where fans point at the LCS as a whole and blame the rest of them. The reason C9 struggles internationally is because everyone else in NA sucks so bad.

I met Bin once when I was shopping at my local Meiyijia. He graciously agreed to sign my mousepad (don't ask why I had it).

I was so excited that I couldn't think of any good questions, so I blurted out "Hey Mr Chen, how did you decide on your in-game name?"

Bin smiled as he handed me back my mousepad. "I just named myself after Fudge's home."
