Context: I'm a spouse on an E2 visa meaning my spouse works in the US and we both live here in NYC.
Question: What is the purpose of your visit to the US?
My answer: I live here in NYC and am returning from vacation.
Agent: Proceeds to go off on one telling me I don't live here, an E2 visa is a non-immigrant visa and if I want to be admitted I need to have intent to depart.
I didn't argue I just killed him with kindness but I just find it ridiculous. I spend 330 days a year here, for the last 3 years, I rent an apt, we pay tax. It would be insane to say I don't live here. I'm not intending to live here forever, but when asked that initial question the only natural answer is to say I live here as that's why I'm here. I really wanted to be a dick and say you're right I just visit everyday.
What would you say? This is the only time of many this has been a problem, most of the time they just wave us through.
First off, I'm not really sure if this the right sub to ask this, but I was looking for a job here in Washington in the aerospace industry, got interviewed, got the job, then suddenly they called notifying me that I'm not allowed to work in an aerospace industry because the ITAR does not accept green card holders for the aerospace industry? They told me I need at least one of the following, a US Passport, US Birth Certificate, or a Permanent Residence Card. I told them that a green card is officially known as a permanent residence card and I'm waiting for their response.
