So I've been slowly getting into the national and no other song has struck me quite like this one. It's hard to put into words how amazing it is but I'll try.

First of all, I really love the beginning instrumentation with the guitar and the piano coming in with a great melody. The steady drums set the pace and then the strings comes in injecting a really deep, melancholy and foreboding atmosphere. The repetition of "loose lips sink ships" creates such a sense of anxiety and urgency as the song gradually builds up. And then a bit later we get to the centrepiece. The entire thing crescendos into a cataclysm of vocals, electric guitar, drums and piano resulting in pure euphoria. Seriously that guitar is amazing. Finally, the very end where the song returns to a sparse instrumental is just the icing on the cake.

Cherry Tree is so supremely crafted and one of the best songs I've ever heard. What are your guys' thoughts on it?
