Nightlords: We sacrifice a thousand souls a day to appease the rooms ambience

You wanna talk about room ambiance, look no further than Kurze's own throne room. The floors, ceilings, and walls were made of screaming people.

Only post angron world eaters but yeah

[–]Dewgong444 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Specifically post-nails-replication. Before that they fought in clean, phalanx-esque formations. After the nails and the purge of their less enthusiastic colleagues, yes, hack and slash.

Condemned? Cruze got distaste from his brothers and not punished at all by his father.

      [–]jack_dog 97 points98 points  (6 children)

      "Betrayed"

Not supposed to continue the horrible shit they've been doing, but also not punished or reprimanded in any way shape or form. Cruz was so coddled, I'm pretty sure the emperor wouldn't have bothered slapping him on the wrist after Cruz blew up his own planet.

He felt betrayed because he knew he'd be assassinated, but he didn't bother with the context of him joining a civil war on the side trying to kill the Emperor. That's how civil wars work; when you join the losing side, you get executed.

      /Rant over

      [–]SheCouldFromFaceThat 78 points79 points  (5 children)

Well, he desperately wanted to be assassinated, as it would confirm that he secretly couldn't help but do all those terrible, awful, no-good, very bad things that he totally didn't want to do.

      [–]ChiefQueef98 34 points35 points  (4 children)

He even gets scared when Sanguinius suggests the Emperor might forgive him.

      [–]SheCouldFromFaceThat 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Exactly. He's terrified by the possibility he might be responsible for literally anything.

      What a bitch.

      [–]ADH-Dork 19 points20 points  (2 children)

True, but he momentarily puts the fear of god in sanguinius when he says alight bro, kill me. Prove that you can change fate and sanguinius can't do it - clever way of keeping it vague if fate can be changed

      [–]shadollosiris 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He should ask the Lion for that, lol, bet his fate would change drastically

      [–]loki7714 2 points3 points  (0 children)

      [–]Feshtof 18 points19 points  (7 children)

Uh the Thousands Sons were loyal, but were betrayed by Horus who misled the Space Wolves.

Curze fought with Dorn and fled rather than face the consequences for his action.

Then he destroyed Nostromo without authorization.

      He was lost not betrayed.

Magnus betrayed the emperor by breaching the edict

      [–]Feshtof 0 points1 point  (5 children)

      No, he didn't, it wasn't a betrayal.

And had the Emperor request to the Space Wolves not been intercepted and changed by Horus to Kill Magnus instead of capture Magnus, they would have never aligned with Tzeench.

Magnus stans: "Oh no, poor Magnus!"

      [–]Feshtof 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Magnus does the *one thing and then pushes it up to 11, condemning the emperor to his chair for eternity*

      [–]Fox-Sin21Dank Angels 22 points23 points  (2 children)

Well, don't kill unless their aliens, parademons, or some other mostly inhuman creature. He will kill just fine. It just can't be too human loooking. Batman has simply killed a lot.

Pretty much yep lmao. As a huge DC fan, Batman is a fing joke.

      [–]ADH-Dork 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Batmans a chump, his enemies escape regularly and cause more and more damage. All he had to do was kill one

      [–]jodhod1 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Kurze's introduction is making suicide illegal and punishable by torturing to death. This net zero rescue death policy is so important, he chooses to provide psychotherapy session to one individual personally resolving her issues and making her not want to die, and then torturing her anyways. This is while being the monarch of an entire planet of tens of billion. He also wears gigantic armour and chooses sneaking as his preferred approach.

One other thing Kurze shares with Batman, is that his bullshit somehow works.

      [–]ADH-Dork 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't believe curze was the monarch when he killed her. He was wearing tattered rags when he broke in. This is a universe where 8ft tall supersoldiers call black Armour camouflage and a whole legion was devoted to stealth

      [–]IrishGamer97Swell guy, that Kharn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nostramo went back to space Detroit as soon as Konrad left for the Great Crusade

      [–]Fox-Sin21Dank Angels 20 points21 points  (2 children)

Batman is awful at his job, literally the worst hero. His arch enemy is literally a clown with no powers. His don't kill policy has condemned thousands and in some comics, millions to death by the hands of a clown. Even if you excuse the don't kill policy, he keeps locking up the Joker in the exact same prison, knowing he will get out again. Not breaking his legs, arms, or paralyzing him. Just letting him escape over and over.

Meanwhile, he breaks the arms and legs of others without hesitation and has even done low-level torture for information plenty of times. Yet this one clown he refuses to hurt worse than a broken nose half the time.

Batman sucks ass. I have a very strong opinion about this lol.

      [–]sterbo 6 points7 points  (1 child)

What if he just made his own prison?

      [–]Fox-Sin21Dank Angels 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He certainly should have, but for some reason, he only abides by Gotham law, except he breaks it daily, is an international and space hero anyway, but for some reason specifically for Gotham criminals no matter where they are only follows Gotham laws. Batman, for as smart as he is, is a complete dumbass.

Also, as a side, why the hell does Gotham not have a death penalty like wtf lol.

        [–]TidalshadowPraise the Man-Emperor 59 points60 points  (1 child)

Yeah it was really interesting reading Angron Slave of Nuceria and reading about the World Eaters/War Hounds regression from ruthless, highly disciplined soldiers into near mindless berzerkers, slaughtering their own brothers who chose not to follow them into damnation.

All because they wanted their insane father to see them as anything more than a punishment from a father who didn't care enough to try and help him or let him die.

This is why the World Eaters are the most tragic legion IMO

        [–]SoatBhnhBL 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It‘s the opposite for the Space Wolfs, they were basically the Khorne World Eaters before Russ showed up. They even had a Space Marine Version of Comissars too.

        [–]OneForestOne99Criminal Batmen 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Depends on the night lord. Some night lords are fans of the blood god like the world eaters, others view killing as an art form. Either way killing and torture is basically the only joy left in the night lords lives.

        [–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

These humans, their imaginations are strong. Kill a thousand men and they will hate you. Kill a million men and they will queue to face you. But kill a single man and they will see monsters and devils in every shadow. Kill a dozen men and they will scream and wail in the night, and they shall feel not hatred, but fear.'This is the way of obedience, my sons. They are panicky, gossiping beasts, these humans. It serves us to allow them to be so.

The Nightlords have almost no unity, so the individual bands do whatever the fuck they want. I assume some fall to Chaos, and some don't.

Ironic you would mention that because that same trilogy makes it very clear they hate chaos, and only work with it at times when it truly furthers their goals. Hate the exalted (the chaos one you’re speaking about) and don’t agree with his wants and desires to kiss abbadon and the ruinous powers asses. It also makes it clear they see chaos worship and taint as an abomination and weakness and they actively try and kill members fallen to chaos when they have a chance. These nightlords are just constantly locked into crazy situations forced to lean on each other. They draw that line very clearly. And even Curze HATED chaos and loved order. It’s why he never fell or even desired to, into the pantheon. Death is nothing compared to vindication.

          [–]PlatosChicken 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I want to believe you that the Night Lords hate chaos, but we only followed one warband of nightlords.

We also saw the Bleeding Eyes and how warp touched they are. Shocking to Talos, but all of the Bleeding Eyes are corrupted to the point of mutilation.

We also have an interesting conversation between Cryian and Variel when Cyrian makes a comment about how warp touched their reclaimed ship (I forgot its name) from the Red Corsairs is. Some of its walls became living flesh. However Variel commented the Night Lords old ship, Covenant of Blood, was probably just as warp touched, and Cyrian didn't notice because he never went into most of the slave inhabited quarters.

I wish the Night Lords are more renegade than traitor, but I need to see more of them than one war band to make a decision.

Edit: IDK how to make a spoiler tag, so spoilers for the night lord trilogy. I just realized something Cyrian would actually know the Covenant of Blood wasn't as warp touched cuz it was him, not Uzas, who was murdering the slaves. Cyrian would in fact know that their old ship wasn't warp touched, but he could not bring that up to Variel.

Doesn’t matter their personal feelings about it, they still make heavy use of it. They may not be happy about it, but they’re slaves to darkness all the same. When you need chaos to survive, and turn to use it on a regular basis as they did in the night lords trilogy, you’ve gone past renegade and into chaos.

          [–]StoneJudge79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally believe the Night Lords are the ones truly Favored By Slaanesh.

Most of them aren’t even Chaos; just unhinged renegades

[–]AlphaTangoFoxtrtAs for you.... Grudgement time. 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Night Lords are renegades, not so much "Chaos".

I'd love to play Night Lords on tabletop but GW just keeps hammering the whole daemonic and corrupt angle

          [–]JamesTheSkeleton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d consider being a doom metal noise marine

          [–]Duncan6794 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To this day a significant portion of the Night Lords have no idea they changed sides.

          It’s the same picture.

Only noise marines are cool. The rest probably look like hellraiser cenobytes

          [–]pfcsock 1 point2 points  (3 children)

In fairness, the nightlords never really fell to chaos the same way the other legions did

          [–]Keyboard_Fawks 1 point2 points  (2 children)

          Kind of like Iron Warriors

I still think one of them should’ve just been a rogue legion, loyal to neither Imperium nor chaos

          [–]TheSpiffyHorde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally just, they’re just even more depressed

Are there any night lords loyalist chapters?

          [–]ChiefQueef98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's any named ones that are hinted at, but I think it's more or less known that Cawl ignored Guilliman's order not to use traitor geneseed with the Primaris marines, so there's probably some, it's just we don't know who they are.

          [–]Maxkowski 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Would be cool, but I dont think they would be able to to survive the Inquisition without a major change in methodology

          [–]JamusAdurant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following the Apocalypse Now theme they would most likely be special forces for the inquisition till they went too far. Though the Inquisition goes too far all the time, they just have sanction.

Imagine if the Night Lords were treated like the Wolves or Dark Angels. Here’s your forbidden tech sanction and your do whatever the hell you want sanction.

Unironically, I think that Night Lords got ever so slightly less atrocious after the Horus Heresy. Sevetar, at the very least, gained a conscience.

          [–]Keyboard_Fawks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

World Eaters: same thing, just they were red now

          [–]JinLocke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imho Emperor’s Children and Deathguard were much cooler pre-Heresy.

What the hell guys? Are we just going to ignore the chaos version of the Ultramarines? The Poster boys? The iron warriors???? /s

          [–]Crashg1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see any comment on this feature. But if you cross your eyes and overlay the images; the Night Lord before and after is a stereograph image. The background separates from the marine and his victims. Very nice touch!
