Homeschool is absolutely NOT an acceptable option. I understand why you would be scared, but trust me when I say the school system works. If it's shootings you're worried about, find a safe school with good security. Possibly private. Otherwise, you have nothing to worry about and your kid is going to be fine. Trust me, your child will be so much better off.

Thanks, I hope you take it into consideration! And I understand why you posted here lol, the homeschool community would obviously just advise you to homeschool.

First off, I recognize you're a good mom and I think it's great that you want to do what's best for your kid. Secondly, this isn't the place to post this but I'll give you advice anyway. This is exactly the reason why my mom homeschooled me, and it ruined my life. Homeschooling never really works out for having a successful social life, as it's unnatural. Have you ever heard the saying "it takes a village to raise a child"? Even before schools were invented children were raised by the community and it's really important for social development to see and be involved in social and societal norms outside of their own home. Homeschooled kids don't get to experience that and that's why they almost always have social anxiety or other mental illnesses, isolation is like solitary confinement. Even if your kid does have friends and is later homeschooled it'll be undeniably hard to stay close with them as they'll be spending much more time at school with their other friends (like you said, it's basically a 9 - 5). Being at home all day instead of out in the world from a young age replicates the life of a shut-in and can contribute to serious mental illnesses. Please don't make this mistake for your kid!
Also please don't get involved in "child based learning". Your son is a toddler, not a teacher. They'll figure out their interests eventually when they're in school and able to explore it with their friends. Please trust me when I say the path in school is there for a reason, it's in the best interest of your son!

It really sucks that you have to teach yourself :c but have you looked into Khan Academy? It's really helpful for lots of homeschoolers.

Have parents that let you do stuff, and social skills. That description doesn't fit many of us.
