Wait, the yttrium-7 diffusion actually does affect the titration sequence? You’re kidding. I feel real dumb for thinking I was safe from having to run Erdenheim tests every time I boot up the particle stabilizer. No wonder the coils keep breaking every time I switch out of flux...
Revenge of the sith is the best Star Wars movie and I’m tired of pretending it’s not by BIG-Z-2001 in PrequelMemes
[–]ejrea 119 points120 points121 points 1 day ago (0 children)
I have very strong feelings about this post. I completely agree when people say that Empire has so many quintessential “Star Wars” moments, perfect pacing, etc. I love Empire to death. I think it’s very reasonable to say that it’s the best movie in a critical sense.
But in a thematic sense, my favorite movie, and I’ll even argue the best, will always be ROTS. Without ROTS, we wouldn’t truly understand the depth of Anakin’s relationship with Obi-Wan, which makes their fight in ANH hit hard in retrospect. We wouldn’t see the climax of Anakin and Padme’s relationship, which makes “I am your father” even more stunning—if that was possible—in ESB. And, of course, Anakin’s fall in ROTS sets the entire OT in motion. With it, we gain a much deeper appreciation for Anakin’s return to the light at the gut-punching end of ROTJ.
ROTS doesn’t just have essential thematic impact, though—and this is not even bringing up the fundamental battle between light and dark, echoed through both Obi-Wan v. Anakin and Palpatine v. Yoda!—I also love it as a movie in general. The pacing is great, the banter is fun, and the fight scenes are pretty phenomenal. Yes, I think Mustafar is one of the best, if not the best, lightsaber fights, come at me.
I didn’t grow up with Star Wars (jealous of everyone who did!), so this isn’t nostalgia talking. I freaking love the prequels, cringe dialogue and all, because I think they did what they set out to do: color the OT in different, brilliant light. And hey, Ewan is in it, which is always a win in my book.

This is very nice of you (and a very funny reminder of one of my favorite Star Wars videos that is not Backstroke of the West, lol). I suppose I’ll be aspiring to my own heights of middle management :)

I also loved Evelyn Hugo! You might like City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert, it has a similar vibe with an old woman looking back on a chequered love life.
Suggest me a geopolitical/international relations novel? by diabete100 in suggestmeabook

I don’t know if this would be your cup of tea, but I adore the Amberlough Dossier by Lara Elena Donnelly, so I’ll put it on your radar—it’s fantasy, but only in the sense that the countries and cities are fictional. The main characters are a smuggler and a spy, and it deals very heavily with geopolitical tensions, political unrest, and all that good stuff.

Damn, sorry for making a shitpost that I thought would die in new. I get it, even I’m finding the flood a little derivative by now (this meme is genuinely really funny though, OP!), but I don’t regret making mine originally. All’s well that ends well, and as Ratio Tile once said, everybody is good.

[–]ejrea 11 points12 points13 points 3 days ago (0 children)
...to be fair, your original comment gave me the impression you did care a little, but I completely understand getting tired of the memes. Like Anakin, I sometimes wonder what I’ve done, and also like him, I hope some good has come out of it!
[–]ejrea 14 points15 points16 points 3 days ago (0 children)
I try to be. As I see it, the criticism I’ve seen levied against me has almost entirely been very fair, but I think it’s focused on the situation as a concept rather than the situation as it’s actually unfolded. I agree that my idea was a flawed one, and I’m not a fan of public proposals and suchlike. Certainly I won’t be doing this again. If this had played out even a little differently, or with someone even a little less amazing than Owen is, things could have been a lot worse, and I get that—but they didn’t. Things worked out pretty well, if I do say so myself. So what I’m trying to say is that while I’m glad that conversations are being had about the limits of acceptability in such situations in general, the things people are saying don’t—or to me, they shouldn’t—apply to what I did specifically.
I hope this isn’t coming across as self-victimization. The attention, support, and sweet sweet karma I’ve gotten has made this the honor of my life. But I’m also a relatively young woman who sees it every time someone tells me to go fuck myself without giving me the impression that they fully understand the nuance of my situation. I could do this all day, but I do balk a little at those comments.
Your comment shows that you do care about what could happen to someone like Owen, which is really kind. However, my point is that I think this is different from what actually did happen to Owen specifically.
I’ll get off my soapbox now. TL;DR: She could point out generalized criticism in others but she made it in a reply herself. Ironic.
[–]ejrea 17 points18 points19 points 3 days ago (0 children)
This is a fair comment to make (hurtful, but definitely fair). If you’ll allow me to say something in my defense, I used his name because not only did I think no one would ever see it, but I was expecting him to see it and message me elsewhere. I was certainly not expecting him to post a reaction meme within literally thirty seconds of seeing mine. If he didn’t want to be dragged into this I don’t think he would have done that! Everything afterwards happened at hyperspace speeds, but our conversation indicated to me personally that the reasons he gave were meant exactly as he gave them, and had nothing to do with the (insane, amazing) spotlight I’d inadvertently put on him.
I understand how it looks from the outside, but really, in this specific situation we both got a kick out of it. I guess I’m just leaving this comment because I’ve seen so many iterations of it and it’s bothering me more than I would like to admit. I appreciate your sympathy towards him, though, this is a ridiculous situation and the spirit of your comment is one I agree with.

That’s so lovely of you! I’ve never been a mod before, so I am equally honored, if now a tad intimidated.
That’s not true. That’s impossible!
Honestly, I feel like the charm of celebrities is that they’re not supposed to be readily accessible, and here I am replying to the thousand and first comment about me. But I’m flattered you think so! :’)

Oh, it’s beautiful. Ever since I joined the sub I’ve heard stories about the greats like Thibson34, and in the back of my head I always wondered how it would feel to have my statue in the proverbial prequelmemes library. So this whole experience is a genuine dream come true for me. I’m trying my best to keep a level head about it all, but as many complex emotions as I’m feeling, I can confirm that I’m having the time of my life in this sub! Thank you all, I really mean it.
