I fuckin loved the version on LT... until seeing THIS. Fuck.

I really think we need a post-album single release of Smoke Detector with Matt's voice rising to this pitch and intensity and the arrangement fully worked out (like it is here).

You could say this about so many National songs though; it wasn't until 11 years after it was originally released that we got a full-potential version of Squalor Victoria. It still hasn't happened for Graceless and plenty of others. I would love this version of Smoke Detector to be released but more than that, I want a Springsteen-style 5xLP box set of live tracks recorded over a 10-15 year period (is that so much to ask?)
