Sorry, I love IAETF, but ‘exciting all the way through’ is not a term I have ever used to describe that album 😀
Context is everything. It’s been a stand-alone single for a year now, so it feels out of place partly because of this. Imagine if this was your first time hearing it along with the rest of the album. My perspective is definitely biased because of how it was initially released.
Whatever Matt is saying in a low growl at the end of Space Invader. Incredible.
With any band I love I always try to understand where they are going and see if I can go along with them. Sometimes it works. Not always. But I don’t write it off until I try.
I find the repetition to be a bit like a meditation. The idea is repeated, and brings a new understanding because of the repetition. I don’t think it necessarily always works for this band but I have found myself enjoying the songs more when thinking about them in this context.
