A spoiler-friendly place to discuss the TV series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
This isn't that big of a deal, and I really love this show and it's look but to me engineering sort of stands out in that the use of the AR wall doesn't really help it.
I get that it's a nicer looking version of the TOS sort of tunnel thing but to me it just feels like they are on a set with the AR wall and some tables in front of it.
Growing up with TNG, it felt like you were in engineering when watching the scenes, instead of looking at a stage. The Warp Core was that ubiquitous character representing the heart of the ship in the background, even if they couldn't show it's size unless they were using different angles.
I feel like maybe with Scotty introduced and the Enterprise taking a pounding, and a terribly long wait with the Strike, maybe they can use it as an excuse to "retrofit" the engineering bay to something that keeps the sense of scale while letting it feel as real as the bridge, or Pike's quarters, or the Conference room.
