I'll be using butcher block counter top. I'll have an over hang of about 7-8 inches when its all done. Will be enough for the stool I believe as well as my wallet.

I think I understand. So make sure the raised portion is done with some sort of 2x4 frame and not ply wood? I haven't taken off old wood top yet so I am not sure what is inside.
