the music industry would be nothing without fan girls by iluvkittykat333 in popculturechat

rihanna’s popular and beyoncé is but not much, only her old music is, i think it’s because they’ve never toured here, and Michael Jackson stopped being played in the radio in the early 2000s i think and then he was played in the radio again after he died.

Nickelback receives criticism from other men, are you saying that people think Linkin Park, Korn and Papa Roach are trivial and unserious? most of the time nu-metal (male) fans are extremely pretentious and shit on every other genre of music.

it's clear why mumble rap is often mocked, and bro-country simply serves as another regrettable outlet for men to indulge in misogynistic music.

yeah, also fan girls are extremely loyal to the artists they like. in kpop, girl groups are being catered towards young girls because fan boys usually don’t buy as much merch and will unstan when the singer (usually a woman) gets older / or they say something that they don’t like (usually something that has to do with feminism) and they move to a fresher / younger woman

i’ve liked Radiohead since i was a child because my dad likes Radiohead and when i tell you, their fans are the most annoying and pretentious men ever. like it’s fucking Radiohead, not an underground shoe gaze band with 15 monthly spotify listeners.

yes omg!!! and when a girl genuinely likes a more band with a more male based fandom they get quizzes like ‘if you’re a real fan what’s the name of the vocalist’s neighbor’s cat’ like shut up!!!

Jenna Ortega confirms she will be Wednesday season 2 producer and that she will be in writers room & says what Tim Burton told her by Kindly_Moose9945 in popculturechat

[–]iluvkittykat333 10 points11 points  (0 children)

you’re literally criticizing her because she likes her job and takes it seriously and because apparently Aubrey Plaza’s the only one that can have that type of sense humor.

you’re not discussing, you’re shitting on her because she’s the woman this sub has decided to hate on this month.

Colleen Hoover books are for people that didn’t have the wattpad/fanfic fase during middle school and they’re experiencing it now as adults, that’s the only way i can explain it because they’re horrible book. i’ve read Niall Horan fanfics that were better than any of those terrible books.

What’s your celebrity gossip pet peeve? by MacaroniMistress in popculturechat

[–]iluvkittykat333 6 points7 points  (0 children)

when celebs get shit on for having a niche personality, i feel like if a celebrity has an actual personality and sense of humor they’re called annoying but if they’re shy/introverted they’re bland and boring.

this happens a lot with younger celebrities in this sub, maybe it’s because of a generational gap but younger people tend to have a more “in your face/sarcastic/ironic/satire” sense of humor and that’s okay but it’s really annoying when people go out of their way to act as if they’re saying it with their chest when someone is clearly joking.

like the Zara Larson / Beyoncé thing that a lot of people took at face value when she was joking.

Which celebrities are ACTUALLY self made? by DestinyCE in popculturechat

[–]iluvkittykat333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean his family had to seek political refuge during the chilean coup, his last name has a wiki page because he’s related to Andrés Pascal, the leader of MIR, a left leaning organization that tried to assasinate the then dictator Augusto Pinochet.

Andrés Pascal is related to Salvador Allende but Pedro and Salvador weren’t actually related.

the Balmaceda family has a wiki page because they were a prominent family in the 18th century and that makes Pedro a really really distant relative but also a lot of people in Chile have the Balmaceda last name but that doesn’t mean they’re all related.

but also he’s from a (forced) immigrant family, they would most likely have been tortured and killed if they stayed in the country. so Pedro’s self made basically, unless you expect a rags to riches story.

i know he’s our worst enemy but i met Matty Healy at Lollapalooza, he was v sweet, wrote me a note and then apologized for his bad handwriting and complimented my outfit.

also there was a trend of fans singing to him/rapping as a joke and i badly rapped to him shits and giggles and he told me ‘ay fuck it up girl!” 😭
