See, that's another reason why unlimited PTO is worse. You pretty much have to take 6+ weeks off every year in order to be better off. The moment you take less, you're already worse off because you're not accruing anything that can be cashed out.

I'd rather be able to take 3-4 weeks off per year AND have the ability to cash out if I ever decide to leave. There is almost no scenario where having unlimited PTO is better. Also, not everyone has the ability to take 6+ weeks off per year to fully take advantage of unlimited PTO. Could either be monetary reasons, family reasons, etc. And you better be taking 6+ weeks off per year in order for unlimited PTO to be worth it. Maybe for those few individuals that love traveling every year and take off months it's worth it, but I bet it's definitely not the majority. In almost all cases, it's Vacation/Sick time > PTO > "unlimited". My company caps vacation and sick time at 240 hours each and you have the option to cash out vacation time. During the past two years people obviously weren't going on vacation as much so people were just cashing out weeks at a time. It's nice to essentially get a double paycheck during payday. Wouldn't have that option if you had unlimited PTO.
