Gecko terrarium with a waterfall by jacobo164 in terrariums

Thanks :) I was really happy when I found the orchid and the great position on the cork branch, it's a bit of a shame I couldn't position it so both flower stems are towards the front though

It was originally built for a crested gecko but I'm worried about it damaging the plants so I'm considering getting something smaller, like mourning geckos

Yeah good point, I chose branches that wouldn't block the view of the waterfall but a crestie would definitely want more. I've considered building another terrarium and dart frogs are on my list of potential inhabitants

It was built for a crested gecko but I'm considering getting mourning geckos for it as they're smaller and less likely to damage the plants. The substrate is Arcadia EarthMix, with added charcoal, orchid bark, sphagnum moss and leaf litter to make it similar to the ABG mix.

Help finding gluten free ramen noodles! by Garibaldy582 in ramen

[–]jacobo164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried barenaked noodles recently, Waitrose were the only local supermarket that sold them.

The texture was pretty good, comparable to most wheat noodles I've tried but they didn't have much flavour, that could be fixed with how they're cooked though.

In the past when I've tried gluten free food I've been disappointed with the taste or texture compared to the standard gluten version but was pleasantly surprised with these noodles.

Ramen Broth Blues by VladPutin67 in ramen

Did you use the shoyu tare from Let's make ramen!? I've cooked most of the recipes from that book and decided I prefer shio tares, however after cooking the tonkotsu recipe from u/ramen_lord, with his shoyu tare I think it's the tare from Let's make ramen! That I don't like. I suspect it's either the types of soy used, or the ratio of tare to broth that make the soy flavour overpowering and you don't really get the taste of the stock.

I've never found reheating has a noticeable affect on the flavour, I usually portion the broth with the tare and freeze, then defrost them overnight and gently reheat on a stove.

Hosting a relatively large number of people for homemade ramen next weekend. Any tips/tricks for scaling up? by chaplibm in ramen

I recently cooked for 7 people and did a lot of different toppings, all prepped beforehand and most reheated when plated in the hot broth. As others have said, heat the bowls beforehand, when I cook for myself I use the hot water method that you mentioned but for so many people I'd use the oven. Plating the food took far too long, if you're cooking for 40 I'd recommend a helper for each component, so you can all move along the line of bowls simultaneously building each bowl. Depending on the situation I would consider serving the toppings "family style", everyone gets a bowl of broth and noodles, then they pick and plate the toppings themselves.

Next up on my tour of ramen styles: Chicken Paitan Ramen (鶏ガラパイタン). Easily one of my favorite recipes, ever! Steps for all components (broth, tare, noodles, toppings) in the comments! by Ramen_Lord in ramen

Maybe this is too late for your comment, but if you look at Ramen_lords post history he combined his recipes into a cook book - he adds 6L of water at the start of this recipe and tops up when necessary to keep the bones covered.

Old paint bubbling when redecorating by jacobo164 in DIY

[–]jacobo164[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sugar soap seems to be the UK equivalent of TSP in the USA, however they're formulated slightly differently.

Thanks for the advice, I started scraping off the bubbles to patch (while the wall was slightly wet still from cleaning) and found the top layers of paint came off very easily even where there weren't bubbles. It looks like the best option is to scrape all the paint off back to a layer that is adhered properly.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just did the X test, the edges of the score came away slightly during scoring which the tape then removed, less than 1mm though.

The adhesion of the old paint seems to be the problem, I washed a new section and attempted to scrape off the bubbles as they appeared... While doing this a whole section of the paint came away, revealing a layer of blue paint. The blue paint seems to have adhered properly so it looks like the best option is to strip the whole wall of the top layers of paint

I had an sj5000 fall about 20m twice and it still works. One time it landed on the micro USB plug which broke off from the camera but after resouldering it works fine

Lipos have to be in your carry on luggage and the airline may have restrictions on the number and capacity you can take. It's less hassle putting the quad in hold luggage but it may get thrown around so pack it well. I've taken mine in carry on once, my bag got pulled aside and searched at security. They weren't sure what it was on the x-ray but let me through once they had a quick look.

I'm travelling with easyjet and my quad in 2 weeks. From the dangerous goods terms I understood it as there being a limit of 2 if between 100Wh and 160Wh, otherwise if less than 100 there isn't a limit
