Just a heads up that lake Louise and moraine lake will be unlikely to have fully melted by late May so may still have ice on them.

Fantastic! Love the atmosphere, totally captures the loneliness of that game.

Would’ve just been pure icing (on the cake) if Skinner sniped that

I did it on a Tuesday, and of course we’d rented a Ford Expedition XL so it was just a little tight! But I went early and thankfully avoided most of the traffic. Kept me sharp though!

Watching for meteors at Moraine - August 2022 by JKeith26 in alberta

Yeah I’m glad I’ve been able to get some beautiful sunrises there the past few years as now it will be much harder. Booking the shuttle is great, but from what I understand there are no shuttles in the early morning or at night.

What is your suggestion? I live in a building that has had frequent issues with people coming into the building to sleep or do other things. I've encountered people sleeping in the stairwells on cold days, and I've figured they're not hurting anything and it's freezing outside so went on my way and ignored it. At other times I've had people smoking meth/crack in the stairwell setting off the fire alarms and forcing the building to evacuate, or people coming in and trashing mirrors, windows, doors and other property. In those cases we need to report it and there aren't a lot of good options other than calling the various response lines. I've found people in the middle of overdoses as well and called 911 while helping them the best I could (got blood all over me as one of the guys was bleeding from his mouth) and stayed with them until EMS got there. Essentially what I'm asking is what do you recommend people do? I pay to live in this building (condo fees) and also own my unit, so it's my home and while I have sympathy for people, it's gotten unsafe.

Staying in Banff vs. Golden by 70BirdSC in Banff

As others have said, definitely do 93 to jasper. If you’re crossing at coutts, you may also want to check out waterton national park, just across the border from glacier and another stunning location that’s far less busy than Banff or jasper. Then you could take hw 22 north which will eventually connect to the trans Canada west to Banff.

Regular Moraine Lake visitors say parking restriction long overdue | Globalnews.ca by katespadesaturday in alberta

This past September, we left our campsite at 2 am to get there for 2:45. The road was already closed and we didn’t get up to the lake.

Another night in August we’d pulled an all nighter and got up there at just before 1 am. The parking lot was full and a bunch of people had their cars running all night. Either way, my friend and I climbed up to the top of the rock pile and was able to watch for meteors with not a soul around, because everyone else was just sleeping in their cars, so that part was nice.

Deep dive Patterson-Gimlin on Astonishing Legends by ExorciseAndEulogize in bigfoot

There’s something in here that always makes me struggle with the idea of the film being a hoax:

The subject leaves footprints, that were cast and the track line was examined by others who returned to the film site a few days after it was allegedly shot. The patty footprints are, to my understanding, pretty damn good, and show evidence of flexion and foot movement.

If the film is a hoax, we have to believe that not only is it a guy in a huge, bulky costume, but he’s also wearing fake feet. He then walks fluidly and without a stumble or trip on the first take of the film, as, as you noted, it was the last thing shot on their last reel of film. Theoretically they could have practiced a few times to make sure they had everything set up, the guy in the suit knew his path, and wasn’t going to accidentally trip on any roots or stumps or anything, but they clearly didn’t do it at the film site as Patty’s footprints are the only ones there as examined by third party investigators after it was shot.

In my mind, it’s a huge risk to waste your last reel of film on a guy who you also need to leave footprints, wearing fake feet, walking across terrain he hasn’t practiced on so could easily stumble, trip or somehow otherwise screw up the take. And if Bob Gilmin wasn’t in on it, then it’s even more or a problem because now you’ve revealed your hoax to him.

Also, assuming Gimlin wasn’t in on it, how did the hoaxer get out of that remote area? He goes and hides in the bushes for a while and gets a ride out? Doesn’t sound likely, especially after hearing that it was a bit of a treacherous drive out for Patterson and Gimlin..

I think my main point is that what an extra amount of effort to not only fake the film, but also the footprints at the same time. Seems really difficult and so much extra complexity to pull off.
