First Year JET, do I need to change my visa status? by StardewJewel in JETProgramme

[–]ValuableOk9470 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's better to check with the immigration bureau.
My case was different, and if I decided to leave my job, I have 3 months to pack everything and leave the country even with my visa valid (3y).
So it's better to check it. They can answer this by phone. Just ask for help in English or whatever language you speak.

I'm pretty newbie to every bureaucracy related to taxes here in Japan.
I need my tax withholding slip and don't know how to obtain it.

Can I request it by mail, or can I have it online?

Went to Meiji-Jingumae after so many years (even living in tokyo lol), after my partner needed to visit the dentist.

One of his crowns felt off, and OMG HOW EXPENSIVE DENTISTS ARE HERE! (first time needing it here.) - anyway, it was a good weekend :)

I'm in the same boat. I'm honestly and sadly surprised about the replies here.
I don't think it's ethical at all. I understand the points everyone brought up, but I cannot see myself doing it without questioning my own ethics.
I'm from the neuroscience field and always worked with so much care on my data, trying to avoid any potential mistakes. If I repeat an experiment and it brings me the same result 2-3 times, I can't accept why cherry-picking or p-hacking would be acceptable here.
I don't know... Seeing these replies worried me a lot.

I decided to leave a position after being for some months on a similar situation.
They'll never change. You gonna be more frustrated than you already are.
Sorry to say this, buddy, but it seems it's time to look for new positions.

I was able to register my used bicycle at a bike store! They made all the procedures, but it could depend on where you live.

I'm sorry about that.

I mean, what's the purpose of this behavior? What's the point of it?

In my case, I usually spend my lunch time listening to podcasts, so if someone mentioned anything before today, I never noticed it.

Maybe I should start using my airpods all the time instead of when I sit to eat...

The way the lady spoke... I don't think so.

They weren't even speaking when I said すみません. After that, they talked to each other.

I just overheard 2 ladies saying 変なで and 怖い after I said すみません trying to achieve a table to finally have my lunch at the work's cafeteria.

I've been in a similar situation for a while, but I noticed this is quite a pattern here. I thought this could be a personal issue, but no.

It's nothing wrong with you in particular. People here are more into working on their own thing and then going home.

In my case, another expat is the one who usually speaks for hours with me, but some other people (mostly Asians) seem not to give a shit.

but the thing that helps me is that I have to remember that is us against the problem and not each other.

That's it. I should remember this.
Thanks for sharing it with me!

Thank you so much! I really appreciate this.

I left home today to work after a massive fight in the morning, and I can't even concentrate on myself. That is why I decided to vent here.

Thanks again; I'll work to improve our communication. Moving to Japan was a huge dream for both of us, so at least we still have this in common.

Almost a year living in Japan and dealing with some shit with my husband. None of us are Japanese, and I'm working as a researcher here. My husband is job hunting but without success.

My contract is about to finish, and I've decided to study the language properly (I'm between N5~N4). My husband is suffering a lot with not having a job/far from his family/me working all day + extra hours every day.

I hope things get better... we're fighting a lot.

I don't know to others how moving to Japan impacted their lives...

Tips for preventing "foreign-ness" as an obvious foreigner? by AngryToast101 in movingtojapan

[–]ValuableOk9470 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I live and work in a neighborhood surrounding Tokyo, and I am a tall, chubby, and fully tattooed woman.
I must agree with the dude above: when In Japan, do as the Japanese do.
In the beginning, I was overthinking about the "tattoo stigma", but I just decided to give up when I noticed I was the one with these thoughts and they don't give a lot of shit about it (except at my work, in a way to show "respect for the culture").
