Robert Mueller: Roger Stone remains a convicted felon, and rightly so by Swedish_Chef_Bork_x3 in politics

And then have your new boss (Barr) completely try to undermine your investigation from the get-go.

Which, if Trump was going to commute Stonems sentence, can someone please explain why Barr needed to get involved in the first place? Ended up being totally unnecessary.

Seems like these guys aren’t very smart in “reading the room.” Nor are they smart trying to cover-up their corruption either! 🙄😡

Robert Mueller Responds to Trump’s Commutation of Roger Stone Sentence: Stone Was No Victim by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Twoweekswithpay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to Mueller in his Op-Ed:

Congress also investigated and sought information from Stone. A jury later determined he lied repeatedly to members of Congress. He lied about the identity of his intermediary to WikiLeaks. He lied about the existence of written communications with his intermediary. He lied by denying he had communicated with the Trump campaign about the timing of WikiLeaks’ releases. He in fact updated senior campaign officials repeatedly about WikiLeaks. And he tampered with a witness, imploring him to stonewall Congress.

This was no witch hunt. Roger Stone did this to himself to protect the president. These are the facts and a jury found him guilty on all counts!

Mueller’s op-ed, published on Saturday in the Washington Post, defended the motives and methods of the Special Counsel’s Office.

“The work of the special counsel’s office — its report, indictments, guilty pleas and convictions — should speak for itself. But I feel compelled to respond both to broad claims that our investigation was illegitimate and our motives were improper, and to specific claims that Roger Stone was a victim of our office,” Mueller began. “The Russia investigation was of paramount importance. Stone was prosecuted and convicted because he committed federal crimes. He remains a convicted felon, and rightly so.”

Stone was convicted by a jury of his peers on 7 counts! He lied to Congress and jeopardized an investigation. He may not have to go to jail, but he is still a criminal, and Trump’s commutation did not erase that.

Glad he is speaking out directly and not letting Barr corrupt his message or his intent. Stone is as corrupt as they come, and a jury of his peers felt that way, too!

Trump can claim witch hunt all he wants, but the facts are: Both Stone Lied & Trump Lied. If not for being the President, he’d be in jail, too!

We also identified numerous links between the Russian government and Trump campaign personnel — Stone among them. We did not establish that members of the Trump campaign conspired with the Russian government in its activities. The investigation did, however, establish that the Russian government perceived it would benefit from a Trump presidency and worked to secure that outcome. It also established that the campaign expected it would benefit electorally from information stolen and released through Russian efforts.

Only with Trump & Republicans is attempted collusion & obstruction somehow okay, but speaking the truth about the attempted collusion & obstruction is a "Witch Hunt!" Ughhh!!!

Labour demands Boris Johnson answers questions on Liz Truss' 'extraordinary' leaked Brexit letter by Twoweekswithpay in worldnews

"This leaked letter lifts the lids on a growing sense of chaos and confusion between Cabinet ministers at the government's complacent approach to vital preparations ahead of December 31st 2020," said Rachel Reeves, the shadow chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and shadow Cabinet Office minister.

"There is growing alarm from the business communities in Northern Ireland and increasingly in Britain that the ministers aren't being entirely open about the state of preparations.

"These issues will affect countless businesses and jobs and are simply far too important to be left to the written correspondence between Cabinet ministers.

Yes, seems like some answers are indeed warranted, given the massive ramifications of this move.

Trump Boosts Michael Flynn In Fresh Attack On Russia Probe by Twoweekswithpay in politics

Just hours after commuting his longtime friend and former political adviser Roger Stone President Donald Trump on Saturday tweeted support for his former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

The president claimed that “new documents” boosting Flynn who admitted to lying to the FBI amid the Russia probe had surfaced according to the conservative news network One America News.

Ughh...What the hell is he talking about? This guy's affinity for criminals and shady guys goes against everything our Founding Fathers believed in. When Lt. Colonel Vindman is smeared for telling the truth, and guys like Stone & Flynn are rewarded for lying, our country's ideals have been obliterated! I really hope there are millions of Americans who look deep within themselves and reject this autocratic corruption for generations to come!

Unprecedented, historic corruption: an American president commutes the sentence of a person convicted by a jury of lying to shield that very president.

No doubt about it! With the way Trump has warped the views of his base to normalize corruption, this will barely create a ripple for them. It must be called out, though—if nothing else, for historical purposes. These atrocities need to be documented so we never repeat them again!

The WHO says 'total lockdown' possible for countries after concerning surges in coronavirus cases by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Twoweekswithpay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dr. Michael Ryan, the organization's Health Emergencies Program executive director, said at a Friday press conference that "there may be situations" in the near future of the novel coronavirus pandemic in which countries going back under full lockdowns "is the only option."

I never thought that a health crisis could be politicized here in the US the way it has, but alas, here we are!

Years from now, people will be horrified that it was considered an assault on your personal liberty just to wear a mask inside a grocery store. 🤦🏽‍♂️

Windhorst has also been talking about him having some rancor with the team because of they cleared him to play and then he Had the injury.

Kind of like Kawhi & the Spurs, Windy seems to be really pushing that there is a lack of trust there, and that is the main reason he’s not playing in the restart.

Gov. Greg Abbott warns if spread of COVID-19 doesn’t slow, “the next step would have to be a lockdown” by Gambit08 in politics

[–]Twoweekswithpay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep. The dirty little secret is that not many realize that. So, yeah, if you want to position yourself for higher office, you actually have to “take a step down” in actual power to a more ceremonial governor position.

He scares me, as well. My hope is that the voting electorate in Texas has been awakened. Traditionally, we have one of the lowest turnout ever, which means more and more ‘Dan Patricks’ have been gaining power the last 10-20 years.

My hope is we can begin to stop these far-right candidates from being elected because more people are paying attention. Combined with the rapidly-changing demographics, I think Texas turning blue is a definite possibility in 10 years or less.

If only. He’s positioning himself to run for governor in 2022. Hard to know what Texas will look like demographic-wise, but it is definitely trending more purple. If it stays like this, though, he most likely will be the next governor

This article gives a nice summary, but basicallly, he has been undermining Abbott’s authority by going on Fox News and creating mixed messages, further sowing discord amongst Texans most resistant to taking the the proper health measures like wearing masks. He has further reinforced their beliefs Not to take these precautions by saying he (& we) did not Need to listen to Fauci, masks are not needed, we didn’t need to close any bars and restaurants, etc.

Because of this, it likely created even more political pressure on Abbott from the Far-Right, leading Abbott not to act for weeks. That Weeks-long Delay has now proven really costly!

Rather than support the governor, he has just created confusion and riled up thousands of Texas who now bear responsibility in the disastrous response we currently have right now.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski responds to Missouri senator’s email: F–k you by zardoz_the_uplink in politics

[–]Twoweekswithpay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I understand the feeling, but when you consider he responded via his work email, he really had no other choice. He was representing ESPN in that capacity, and thus, his unprofessional conduct ultimately reflects poorly on the company.

Whether he wanted to or not, every company would have made their employee take this step at the bare minimum. Because of his value to the company, he is fortunate that his punishment will most likely be less severe than it would be for employees of less stature.
