What does A2C think about Bennington College?

I got accepted too with stellar aid. Trying to make the decision between Bennington and St. Michael's college in Burlington, Vermont, about 2 hours north (also excellent aid). I am going to the admitted student days on April 17 at Bennington and April 22 at St. Mike's and will then make my final decision!

I just got in today rd. I am domestic. Got merit and need based, but it's still about 12K more than my parents can pay. Not sure if it's worth asking for more.

Amherst and Northampton are vibrant college towns. Northampton is the larger of the two. Lots going on all the time. Connecting them is a road filled with all the big box stores. Not the middle of nowhere.

Based on what people are reporting on this subreddit, I feel like with the selective liberal arts colleges, it's the same group of people getting in over and over and over again. Will be interesting to see how the waitlist plays out!

Would also add to juniors to take a good hard look at your ECs and see how you can make a big push to do something meaningful over the summer.

I think once you've washed up on the shores of the summer before your senior year, the ECs, GPA and test scores are pretty much set (maybe with exception of SAT fall testing), so at that point, consider that your job is keep GPA and ECs going and then put all attention on the essays and quality of the apps (doing a really good job with EC descriptions, etc.)

No ,but watch out for ZeeMee after acceptances. The colleges you're accepted at show up in your profile. Could be just me, but when I look at people already accepted to 10 colleges (publicly available info), I often think, why do you need to be admitted to any more. For any colleges into yield protection, ZeeMee is basically encouraging applicants to dox themselves. Beware!

There is this feeling that everyone there is locked in some grim struggle, even though like 95% are just the usual mix of upper middle class privileged people who probably are leading cushy lives. There is something almost foreboding about the campus, it has a cold feeling to it. This may sound really out there, but my dominant feel was that it's like a training camp for a cult.

She doesn't receive an income but....does she get comped for expenses for all the outfits she buys, trips she takes for RR, etc. That's what I wonder. I just can't help but think that she's managing to squeeze a lot of extra $$$ out of this. For example, on the road trip to MI when she stopped off for the scholarship recipient, what percent of the trip could she get reimbursed? All personal expenses of the trip (gas/travel/food) until she got to that point? Then while in MI, could she submit receipts for the days that RR mom was there (gas/food/entertainment/props/clothing/filming, etc.) to be reimbursed? It's technically not income from RR so wouldn't be visible.

Would there be some legally compelling reason why they had to list the house? For example, in order to change the mortgage to include Kelle's name, there was some clause from the long ago divorce deal with the ex-wife that this would force the house to put on the market? I am just so confused by this whole thing.

I am assuming this is a LAC because I can't figure out a comparison uni that would match these stats. If it's a really small college like a Bennington or a Hampshire, then it's going to be really easy to get to know EVERYONE and that can make it easier in general to make friends or date. Are there other colleges nearby to increase the dating pool? For example, Bennington isn't too terribly far from Williams and Hampshire is part of the 5 colleges which opens the social doors wide open.

I remember when you posted about this. What you may want to do is write them an email that is more in line with a "letter of continued interest" as if you were waitlisted. Explain how much you love Bennington, the strengths of your app and then tactfully bring up the interview situation, explaining that you tried to schedule and would be grateful if they could offer you an interview and reconsider the app. Gl to you!

Try shifting your perspective. Instead of calling it gatekeeping, call it setting boundaries! Maybe it's better in the end if some of this college stuff stays out of friendships because it does bring out people's competitive streak. There's nothing wrong with this and setting a boundary can keep the friendships healthy.
