You all have moved me with both your compliments on the decals (not a paint job) and concern for my mounting. I haven't been too worried because of the short distance and low speed to get to the river, but appreciate the good advice on easy things I can do to have a more secure mount. For those who would like to similarly spruce up their canoe, I'm including the link to the decals as well. Good feedback. This has ropes on the front and back attached as you mention. A second strap through the front windows (and wider straps for both) would be a huge improvement.

Noted. I haven't been too worried about it because I only live 5 minutes from the Santa Fe river which is where we always go (because it's so close). A couple miles at 40mph is probably about what this rig is rated for ;).

Good advice! This was a kit I got from Dicks SG and I haven't been impressed. No issues so far, but doesn't give me the "warm and fuzzies" either. Thinking of going to pool noodles and ratcheting tie downs.
