People like to say The Last Jedi is subversive and deviant and takes the whole franchise in a new direction but like it doesn't at all? It reaffirms and reinforces the status quo of the franchise just as much as any of the other sequel movies. It teases and plays with a lot interesting and subversive ideas but it never really employs any of them. Anything truly divergent and original is walked back in favor of keeping the order of the franchise by the time credits roll. It never moves the needle because you're not allowed to move the needle. People say Rian had complete control over the story and i simply do not believe that. He obviously wants to tell a different kind of story but he inexplicably doesn't run it home. What I'm getting at is that Rey should have taken Kylo's hand. But that's not something that could ever be allowed.

Vol. 2 is my all-time favorite MCU project. Hoping it's toppled by Vol. 3

He's wearing a literal tuxedo in most of the ones I've seen, what's unpleasant about that? It's not like they're posting mugshots

No I am not, Abraham's Daughter is a whole-ass other song than the one I'm talking about, which is titled "Horn of Plenty" which is a song written by Arcade Fire and is the song used by James Newton Howard to compose the Panem National Anthem used in the film.

You're on the wrong side of the puzzle to solve it. Mark your map and move on, you'll eventually find yourself on the other side of the wall and you can grab the missile there.

I remember it being grand but ominous. And kind of disconcerting, like something that could be on Neon Bible.

SPIN says “Horn of Plenty” pulls off the neat feat of sounding both exactly like Arcade Fire and exactly like a futuristic anthem. It still has one foot in the band’s uncorrupted neighborhoods, but another is up on the podium at the end of Star Wars accepting an Olympic gold medal or something. Horns blare, a choir booms, strings swell, the martial percussion steals the show, and we just realized how much we love Big Brother."

It's supposed to be a fascist anthem so no, the lyrics aren't very flowery. I remember the instrumentation being very interesting though.

This is the song James Newton Howard scored for the film based on the original song, but it's not the song itself. The original song did not make it into the film or into the official soundtrack. As far as I can tell the only place it existed was on the band's Facebook page, and it's gone.

There's a lot of sadly predictable responses from the rank and file Witnesses. It's either "this will bring people to Jehovah" or "this is the persecution the Bible warns us about and all the apostates want to murder us"

I think part of it is a general refusal by dissatisfied fans to go back to a foundational stage. It's Post-Endgame, which means we are back at the bottom of a roller-coaster hill. This is a return to Phase 1 storytelling. It's not an exact parallel because it's still a huge world with a lot of familiar faces, but the MCU needs the time and the space to ramp up again, and that's something the fans haven't had to experience... ever. Every Marvel movie we've ever seen from 2008-2019 was building to SOMETHING big, from the formation of the Avengers to the final confrontation with Thanos. We've always had that bigger thing in the back of our brains and so we tolerated the smaller more disconnected stories because we understood where the whole thing was heading.

Despite the announcement and the reveals we still don't have a super clear picture of what to expect from this current climb up the roller coaster, and I think that's making fans more irritable and impatient with the new movies.

Just remember we're in the climb

Does Everything Now really deserve all the hate? by JacobHacks in arcadefire

Every suburban kid goes downtown at some point. Rococo gives us a step outside the suburbs, a look at what's beyond from the perspective of the suburban. It feels out of place cause I feel it's supposed to be. I also don't think it's punching down. We're talking (largely) about affluent kids in expensive art schools trying to build identity and coming up with more style than substance (like the Rococo era). It's a warranted critique about a forming generation from one of its contemporaries.

I always saw The Suburbs as being about the crumbling of civilization and the widespread ignorance/indifference towards it. Rococo is pretty on point operating under that theme.
