The Mojave Desert covered in snow [1920x960][OC] by GeorgePavi in EarthPorn

It's a huge place but there's almost nothing surrounding it, so it doesn't get as many visitors. It's got some the biggest Joshua Trees in the world, a lot of the Joshua Trees there dwarf those found in Joshua Tree National Park, the one's left standing at least.

Taken in late February this year when the SoCal region was getting some record breaking snow in lots of areas. Mojave does see about in an inch of snow annually, but I was lucky to witness the snowfall in person, this was taken right as the snow ended, but I've previously posted a shot here that was taken in the midst of the storm.

The burned trees you see are all Joshua Tree's that burned down in the Cima Dome fire of 2020. About 2/3 of all trees in the park were destroyed (estimated 1.3million trees). To give you a sense of the devastation this shot shows maybe 1/10 of the destruction I saw driving thru here. Quite a sad sight.

If you would like to see more of my work my IG: https://www.instagram.com/george_pavi/ I strive to photograph landscapes that aren't commonly seen.

I shoot almost exclusively digital, I'm aware of Phase One cameras and how good they are. I Think they're only now getting to the point where they can challenge Large Format cameras in terms of Resolution and DR, but LF still has a look to it that can't really be achieved without stitching multiple images.

Possibly shot on Large Format which lets you tilt the focus plane allowing you to get everything in focus. This would also explain the image quality. Large format film is pretty much unbeatable in terms of resolution even by today's standards. A 8x10 sheet of film will resolve 400-800megapixels depending on the lens used.

any great greek restraunts in Frederick or Moco county? by SDEexorect in maryland

Melina at Pike & Rose and Vasili's in Kentlands are my 2 favorite places. Great food and very pretty presentation. I'd say Melina is slightly better of the 2.

Mykonos Grill in Rockville used to be much cheaper years ago (not accounting for inflation), it's good, but the prices are now on par with Melina and Vasilis and I don't think it's any better of the 2 personally.

I really like the gyros at Big Greek Cafe if you're looking for something cheaper. Their gyro meat isn't much different from other gyro places but their Tzatziki and Pitas is bomb and makes it so good. Since other commenters have said some locations aren't good. I've been to the Rockville location on Nicholson and the one in Aspen Hill off Norbeck and both of those are good imo.

Should Vehicles with Illegal Tints, Temp Tags, and Raised Suspensions Be Banned from the Baltimore Beltway for Public Safety? by adb1146 in maryland

Fast driving is not synonymous with reckless driving. Just like slow driving isn't synonymous with safe driving. Both can be dangerous in a specific scenario.

It's absurd to say "I'll move over to right for faster traffic, but not if they're going toooo quickly" How does something qualify as too quick for you? Are you gonna radar check them before you decide to move over? It's very hard to tell weather someone's going 80 or a 100 behind you if you're going 65... and I hope you're not staring at the rearview mirror the whole time to figure out cause that's probably more dangerous.

Once you start adding arbitrary caveats to specific laws they becoming impossible to enforce. Laws should be simple, you shouldn't need a flow chart to decide how to enforce something. A lot of MDs traffic issues can be remedied without profiling specific types of cars like you suggested, or by applying those arbitrary rules.

Slower traffic moving to the right(regardless of speed), and everyone using blinkers to indicate lane changes and turns would go a long way in this state.

Weaving in and out of traffic only occurs because people in Maryland can't seem to understand that the left lane is for passing. If people can't pass a car properly (i.e going into the left lane, they'll do it by other means)

I'm honestly shocked that MD hardly has any "slower traffic keep right" signs. I've only seen them on 270 near Frederick. In CA,UT,CO and WA... and imagine a lot of other states. These signs can be seen every mile on practically every highway and freeway.

ITAP of some hoodoos at sunrise. by GeorgePavi in itookapicture

I didn't expect the sun to light up these hoodoos like a spotlight. There's a long wall of hoodoos on the right side out of frame and the sun is just peeking out between them. But it made me think of actors on a stage.

Beautiful tones. I struggle with shooting waterfalls in direct light like this, but you did an excellent job.
