I find this viewpoint a bit reductive. Our sub is not responsible for pitting anyone against anyone else. We respond to what has been placed in front of us by the tabloid media and Harry’s comments on his memoir.
Harry relates a feeling of sibling rivalry in Spare with William quite clearly wanting to compete against and best his brother. The tabloid media also takes the view that these people are to be compared and contrasted. And we know that that this rivalry is also supported by the palace through planting stories and William’s behavior toward his brother. William is not for his brother, nor does he want to see a path forward for reconciliation. As the older brother and a supposed leader, you’d think he’d be less petty and more wise than Harry. That hasn’t borne out.
So yeah, we look at the news and analyze it but we aren’t the start or end of any of the drama.
I also would like to say, respectfully and without malice, that is is annoying that people come to this sub which is not a snark sub or toxic, and ask us to be the bigger person in all our posts.
This sub is very tame and pretty fair. Our analyses of Kate for example are based on things she’s done in public, we don’t entertain imagined situations and we don’t name call. We don’t give her sophomoric names. But, for example, when we do have a point of fair criticism, someone inevitably comes out of the woodwork to ask that we be magnanimous enough to frame Kate as a victim…of …her own doing because she is a woman. Even though she plays for the patriarchy. I’m over it frankly.
There are many, many, misogynistic, and mean spirited, snark subs out there that would be more suitable targets for “let’s celebrate both sides” commentary.
I think fair criticism is fair. William will carry the legacy of an institution that has much to answer for the world over. He has been petty and cruel. This should not be easy for him.
