Yesss! I mean, later season Aang is for sure becoming more of a man, and I can totally see how over the following years him and Katara would indeed form a long lasting loving relationship. But this brooding scarred emo-like boy that Katara, the healer, can heal and make better - no matter how cliché and problematic that is! As a woman/teenage girl yourself, you can totally see that being something she'd be attracted to, even if that wouldn't work out in the end. Because relatable, sisterrr

Retail work in a global pandemic is on another level [oc] by GinnyMaple in funny

[–]GinnyMaple[S] -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

I'm completely overwhelmed/lost in all the comments here so I'm replying here for no obvious reason:

You're absolutely correct! And yes, I do understand that the customer in this instance was possibly having a brain-fart moment, I get it, that happens. But when you're at that register for hours on end and you just keep seeing people remove the mask, or have it under their nose, or take it off to sneeze and cough, it just... really deeply tires you out. You can't feel safe. So yeah, I did find it somewhat funny (in a sad way) when this guy leaned in closer and pulled his mask down so he could hear me better.

Like as with most people working retail, I'm not in it out of any passion for the company or because I deeply love counting nasty bits of change at a register. Most of us have a job like this because we don't have much of a choice, especially on the current job market. We're not really helping people (I mean, I GUESS we are helping them buy what they need, but it doesn't feel noble or anything) and we're never truly safe. Except on days like today, a day on which I don't have to work, and can just upload a comic I made about an apparantly surprisingly common retail experience. :')

Oh wow this is bringing forth a rant, sorry!

Godddd I remember that, it was painful to watch. I was (and still am I guess) a huge ATLA fan as a teen when the show was still on and super into the fandom: made lots of fanart, wrote lots of fanfiction, the typical teenage girl works. I spent most of my free time submerged in this fandom one way or another.

Being a teenage girl, I of course shipped the whole Zutara ship. I saw a lot of myself in Katara and honestly, at that age, there was nooo way I ever would have considered dating a boy two years younger than me. A 12 year old boy to myself as a 14 year old girl? Noooope lol. But the brooding 16 year old teenager? Ohmyohme.

All in all I just loved the show, and shipped all kinds of crap, because I was a stupid horny teenage girl with no inhibitions. It's a pretty significant part of some of my more formative years. And when they uploaded this mean ass video, just kind of making fun of anyone who shipped zutara, I honestly tried forgetting they did that as soon as it happened because it just completely tainted the show and my experience with it. How is it that I, as a dumb teenage girl, felt the cringe so hard - but not cringe as in "oh man this sure shows me I've been dumb", but cringe as in "oh my God these adult men are actually coming for their young girl audience and honestly feel like they're pwning us super hard, this fucking hurts to watch".

I for real feel bad remembering this video now. I love all things avatar, and I acknowledge that the franchise goes way beyond these two dudes alone and this one shitty video they made, that there's hundreds of talented writers and artists involved. But damn, I sure do wish they hadn't felt the need to try and insult a significant part of their audience, at the expense of their own authenticity. If you can't handle fans making up their own romantic pairings of your show, don't publish your show. You, the creator, don't have to respond to it.

Anyone else here an "essential" retail worker? And/Or do you have any idea whether the limit of 50 customers at a time should also be enforced in essential stores? My collegues and I are very nervous about being one of the only open stores, and having 120 customers inside at any given time gets overwhelming quick.

Ughhhh yes, I made the mistake of getting into retail a month ago and I deeply regret it! Sadly in this economy it took me like five months to even find this job, so I'm stuck, unless I want to not make rent.

Sorry, just ranting :') They can't find a replacement for the second cashier for the late shift today, so I'm heading in alone and will likely want to die by the end of it all

Result being: literally half of all customers were in a group of two or more, little under 1 out of 10 wore the mask incorrectly or removed it in the store, though all in all it felt less bad than yesterday. Yay!

I work the cash register at a big hardware store/construction store, and the amount of people not giving a fuck about covid regulations is insane. My coworkers are mostly alright, though everyone is pretty loose with keeping distance, and many of the mouthmasks come off as soon as the store closes. It's not my dream job by a long shot, but alas, I have bills to pay.

Just for fun (or well, the opposite of fun I guess) today I intend to keep count of how many customers wear the mask correctly, how many wear it under their nose/straight up take it off, and how many shop in pairs or even full families/a bunch of coworkers together. I'm expecting pretty depressing results!

Biggest downsides to keeping degus? by godhelpmycar in Degus

[–]GinnyMaple 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If I have to think of one downside, I'd say it's that it's pretty unpredictable how well your degus will get along, even if they're related. Putting them in their new home can be a reason for them to determine their hierarchy all over again, which means they'll fight, sometimes pretty intensely. It's really difficult to estimate how much fighting you should allow and whether or not you have to intervene. Overall, it's best to let them fight, unless one of them draws blood: some sources indicate that even then you should let them keep going until they're done, but they could seriously injure each other. It might be best to seperate them for a while and let them continue the fight when they've had some downtime and you've disinfected the wounds.

And even once they're done and a ruling has been established, they still might fight more later or pick this fight up again if one isn't happy with the result. Mating season doesn't help either, lol. So this aspect of their life is honestly pretty stressful.

When we just got our boys, they took a few days to settle in, then suddenly started fighting. Very harshly. They got in the infamous "furball" once and one of them got a big scratch over the eye - they really could take out an eye or cut off an ear/tail when they go at it like that. It was sooo stressful! We tried keeping them seperated, but at some point while we were sleeping, they broke into each other's cage and apparantly settled their differences - thankfully without more blood. I've got to say, not a super chill way to deal with new pets, lol.

Is anyone else seemingly randomly uncomfortable around certain guys? by justalilgoose in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]GinnyMaple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I've felt this before as well! Even besides how some strangers just make the chills run up and down your spine for seemingly no reason. There's a rant incoming below that anyone is free to ignore or read as they please!

A few years ago, I went on a holiday to a town in France, where an old flame of mine lived at the time. We had been on a few dates a year prior and slept together once, then remained friends afterwards. I had just gotten through a bad break-up, and told him that I wasn't sure whether I'd be down for casual fun or not, which he respected.

But as soon as I stepped off the bus in the town and saw him walking towards me, every hair on the back of my neck stood up. I tried to shake it off and managed to ignore the nagging feeling for most of the first night, while we got caught up on each others' lives and had a good time. We slept in the same bed, but didn't have sex in it, that I know of at least. The feeling got worse and worse and I was stuck there for four days. Luckily he had some super cool American friends that we got to hang out with a lot as well, which made me feel a lot more comfortable for at least some of the time. But whenever I could, I did my best to not be near him or in the appartment when he was there, just being all touristy on my own. Balancing being nice to him while also avoiding him whenever possible was extremely difficult: and I honestly felt so stupid and silly. Here's this guy who's letting you stay at his appartment for free, so you can have a nice holiday in a warm southern town, and you're trying to spend the absolute bare minimum of time together?? I felt like an asshole.

As far as I know, nothing bad happened during the trip. I keep saying "as far as I know", because on this trip I had my first (and only) blackout drunk experience. There was a party at the American couple's appartment and they only drank hard liquor mixed with sugary drinks - as a Belgian, I'm used to drinking beer, so this wasn't my speciality. I got way too drunk and don't remember anything about getting home. I've lost half an hour or an hour of time, between being in the party appartment, and getting home to where I was staying. I only remember short instances of getting my camera before leaving, walking up some stairs, a view of the streets outside, nothing else. One moment I took a sip of some cocktail, the next I sat on the couch getting ready to go to bed. I was so drunk I started crying because I dropped the case of my contact lenses (lol).

The next day, I had a bad hangover, but still did everything I could to not be in the appartment. My trip finally ended the day after that and I was SO happy to be going home. I haven't spoken to that guy since, except for a few text messages when he moved back to Belgium. I have no idea what happened during the time I was blackout drunk and I can't safely say nothing bad happened to me during. I didn't feel any physical trauma, and without being too graphic, I didn't entirely feel or see anything that would indicate something nasty happened. But that hardly rules it out fully. I was fully dressed when the blackout stopped and had somehow not forgotten any of my belongings at the party.

I really wish I had a decent ending to this story. But the truth is, I can't prove that I didn't get assaulted, nor prove that I did. It's entirely possible I was just drunk, walked home drunk with the guy, sat on the couch and snapped out of it. For my own sanity, that's what I tell myself happened. I can't even say he did anything that explains my bad feeling. I have NEVER felt that way about a man I know before or since. I very much believe in instincts and gut feelings, and while I did constantly consider just opting out and staying at a hotel instead, I never did out of fear of "being rude".

I've mostly heard people complain about having to read it in early high school and not liking it much, so I assumed age has something to do with it :) It's not part of the curriculum in English class here so I can't relate!

My favourite book is To Kill a Mockingbird! (Yes really, I'm Flemish speaking originally so I got to read it at an appropriate older age and never had it drilled into me in school, not even in English class)

And I'm currently reading American Gods by Neil Gaiman, which I quite enjoy so far

Ohh if you don't mind sharing, I'd love a link to those Belgian shelters with degus! (If you have them that is) If we ever need a new buddy for ours, we'd know where to look :)

And yeah we were very lucky that they're both male (brothers of course) since Taco is wayyy more chubby than Nacho. So we were worried that Taco was perhaps female and uhh, blessed, lol. Nope, just fat! He's at his lowest weight yet now at 280 grams. :')

Aww, 8 years is a long time for a pet degu though! If they end up without a buddy (which they all do eventually, since one is bound to die before the other) they will bond with their owner more intensely. And keeping a lone degu is frowned upon, but if you were able to give them a lot of attention, they might have been overall happy enough.

If you can, it's always always always best to buy at least two together, but given enough time and effort you can keep a lone degu satisfied. Given that yours lived so long, it must mean you did something right! :)

Oh for sure yeah, when our friends with cats play a clip of our degus squeaking or being vocal the cats lose their minds :') I'm super allergic to cats so we'll never have any, but I wouldn't advise keeping both at the same time (or like at least keep them in a seperate room)
