Yeah...but when people have that wide of an audience, you have massive influence, which is very very powerful. There's no excuse to spread misinformation when you have power.

That's cool, weird that the article I read about the name change didn't mention most of those things. In any case I don't personally like image of riots being perpetuated with the name Riot Ribs, although it does have a nice ring to it. And another caveat: in the context of this thread Riot Ribs does make more sense lol. Why am I talking about this I need to get back to work.

I never said I think they don't. Asking the question of if they do, doesn't mean that I have already made a conclusion that they don't....

My point is that while everyone who does drugs like that are capable of having these "profound" thoughts, those specific people would be confronting a very different reality. To experience ego death as someone who's ego is inflated far, far beyond the average person would be a completely different experience, so I wonder if they actually reach that level of pure existential confrontation of self, or if their massively different life experience creates a bubble which protects them from the realization that their place in society is absolutely ridiculous from an existential point of view.

I think it goes much farther beyond "profound thoughts." In my opinion being a billionaire whose brand and status relies on destroying the self-image of young girls is directly at odds with the reality of existential confrontation and ego death. So the question is: do they even do psychedelic drugs in the first place? And if so, do they reach that level of self realization? And if so, how do they continue to exist as they do in our society with seemingly no awareness of the dichotomy?

Sorry if that sounded convoluted I'm sure I was redundant a lot in there.

Canadian dies after being held in U.S. immigration detention centre with COVID-19 outbreak - James Hill, a 72-year-old Canadian national in ICE custody passed away on Aug. 6, 2020 at the Farmville detention centre in Virginia after contracting COVID-19 at the crowded, squalid facility. by eldarandia in worldnews

What? Where did I say I don't feel bad for him?

All I was saying was that there was no indication in the story whether he immigrated legally or illegally. Either way that had no bearing on why he was deported - he was deported because he committed a crime and the USA decided to revoke whatever status he had (which once again, we don't know the extent of).

I don't understand your reply in the context of my comment? I was just saying I wonder if these billionaires who are worshipped by society are able to have an existential reckoning about their status in life on Earth.

I know, that's my point. Kanye fans absolutely worship his music. "Go ahead and criticize his personality but his music is untouchable" is the general mood in all of these threads about him.

Every single thing you just said were things I already said myself.

DACA is meant to provide a path. Doesn't mean that all "illegal" children have become citizens, and I didn't come close to implying that.

Nobody can assume how the person in the story ended up there. That's exactly what I said.

I am not claiming victory. I put "no reason" in quotations to address the fact that they could come up with a reason if they wanted AND I literally said "they can deny me whenever they want." I literally specifically said that I'm not 100% safe.

My only point in responding was to say that you're wrong about YOU CANNOT GET STATUS. And that not every immigrant is actually trying to become a citizen like the thread was implying.

The thing that this all boils down to for me is that I've heard Kanye's music and I don't think it sounds good. I do like some rap and hip hop so I'm not saying it just because I don't understand the whole genre, but I really just don't understand why people absolutely glorify Kanye's music like it's god-level. Maybe it was influential and changed the direction of hip hop, but that doesn't mean it's objectively good.

Sometimes I wonder if these people ever do psychedelic drugs and are confronted with the reality of their place in the world. It must be such a mindfuck to exist in that realm of society.

Because for most billionaires, nothing matters more than money. They are terrified of being taxed.

Nothing in the story said he was brought to the US illegally. I’m Canadian and moved here with my parents at age 12, I’m 34 now and haven’t desired to get citizenship so I haven’t done it. There’s no “reason” they should deny my green card renewals but technically they can whenever they want.

I do realize that if I were arrested for a crime they could choose to deport me. The guy in the story above committed a heinous crime. They didn’t deport him just for not being American.

Also the DACA program was meant to provide a path to US citizenship for immigrants who were brought here illegally as children.

People have been talking about how Kershaw is a lot looser and seems happier in his personality this year, and I think it might have a lot to do with the public exposure of the cheating.

I can’t stop imagining what it must’ve been like for him to have been labeled a postseason choker, come back and start crushing it, only to “lose it” again against the Astros at Minute Maid in the most critical games and have the world absolutely fuck you over like that.

Like what an absolute mindfuck that would’ve been for the GOOG (greatest of our generation). Having the scandal publicized means maybe he can take a load off his shoulders and be confident in his stuff again and feel vindicated that he was robbed of a ring in the most literal sense.
